This is a small basement establishment on a very busy intersection just southeast of the center of the city and on two subway lines. Enter by going down some external stairs, then through the door. There's only one room for seating, which you reach by walking past the offices, the kitchen and the bathrooms. There's an arched white plaster ceiling supported by thick dark wood beams. Eight heavy dark wood tables with stools, chairs and benches line two walls and surround a column in the center of the room, offering enough seating for 28. The floor is gray slate tile. Spot lighting sits above each table, but the overall impression is quite dark. A small heavy stone bar sits in the far left corner, with four wooden stools. There's a TV to the left of the bar and a big neon Warsteiner sign above. Opposite the TV is a large dark wooden panel with a splash of white paint in the middle - art, I guess. Vases, jugs and other vessels adorn the walls. Pop music blasts from the sound system. The place is about half full on a Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., but I'm the only one with a beer...
Four brews on tap: Krusovice pale, Warsteiner, Ferdinand dark and the reason I came here: Master Pub Nefiltrovannoye. A restaurant guide I saw recently claimed the beer was brewed here. Not true, as it turns out, but still interesting that the bar contract brews a wheat beer for their "own" offering. The beers were served well, although they didn't seem to pay much attention to what logos were on the glasses. The food menu is decent (including a favorite Russian soup I can't find anywhere any more). The food prices were very reasonable, but the beer prices were outrageous. The food was pretty good, though. The service was terrible, with waits that were too long and a server who didn't know basic things about the beer.
If you are in the area, this place is OK. No need to come out this way just to visit the pub.
