Typical sports bar atmosphere with an attached brewery up front. Lots of wood decor and TVs if you know what I mean. Our bartender was a straight weirdo, but nice overall. Selection was basic, with nothing really special. Had the amber (girlfriend had the blonde) both were decent but nothing spectacular. Would be a cool place to hang out if you lived in Greeley, but I won't make any special trips down there.

Pitchers is a great sports bar, lots of open seating tons of TVs, billiards, etc.

Nice cheesy 70's barstools.

Small brewing system, but the brewer is very pro homebrewer. He was allowing a group of about 15 collect wort from a stout to take home and boil/tweak. I am sure it is an interesting process and it looks like the brewer does this gratis.

Nice pub-fare menu with lots of happy hour pricing. Clear a college bar in a college town.

The staff was very friendly and constantly checked on us.

Nine beers on draft from a Kolsh and Cervesa to a IPA and Nitro stout.

My favorite was the nitro IPA, the beer was perfect for the softness of the beer gas. Compared to its CO2 twin that was almost harsh in bitterness.

If you are near Greely, Pitchers is worth a stop, especially if there is a game on.

Entering from the parking lot, the maitre d' station was down a short ramp with the lavatories off to the left, just beyond the m.d.s. The restaurant area was off to the right and consisted mainly of booth seating. "The Shack" was the bar area, further aft and to the left. The bar was a long "L" shape made from polished blonde wood. The back bar consisted of corrugated tin or aluminum and diamond deck. Off to the left of the bar, seating consisted of mainly high tables and chairs with one big group table available for large parties. They also had two pool tables for those inclined to play. It had a South Pacific feel to it, especially with the rattan matting on the walls.

Beer: First, to finish the tour, the brewhouse and five FVs were visible in the front window and as I was gazing in from the Shack side, the assistant brewer, Gus, came out to speak to Mentor and I and to check out my jacket. Nine (9) house beers - Scottish Ale (4.5 %); Apricot Wheat (5.2); Citrus Honey Wheat (5.7); Golden Kolsch (5.5); Baja Beer (4.4); 808 Wheat (5.0); Sunset Amber (5.5); Stampede Stout on Nitro (7.3); and Sensuous IPA (7.1). My picks were divided between the Sunset Amber which tasted amazingly like FatTire and the IPA.

I visited Greeley to see an old friend of mine, and she and I swung past Pitchers to see what the story was with one of Colorado's new(er) brewpubs.

Pitchers is a sports bar. Let me repeat, it is a sports bar that caters to UNC students, and the whole space is populated with muted, televised talking heads. The bar dominates the main room, and the brewery is in an adjacent room visible from the bar. They had seven of their own beers on tap: an apricot wheat, an American wheat, a Mexican-style lager, a nitro stout, an amber, a Scottish, and a pale ale. They were out of their other regular brew, an English-style IPA. All of the beer suffered from the same three problems: lack of carbonation, lack of hops, and biting sweetness. To me, these issues are hardly intractable, and I hope that the brewer will make his offerings more assertive and balanced in the future. Until then, these brews taste like slightly alcoholic malt syrup.

I'll get my friend to give me an update on Pitchers in another six months or so, but until I hear that there is some major recipe overhaul taking place, I'll stay away.

Went to Greeley on a business trip and wandered around town for about 30 minutes (which took me around the whole town about 4 times). After finding absolutely nothing that looked like a good beer stop, I trekked over to the only place that looked like it might actually brew beer on premises. I happened upon Pitchers, which was located next to the only liquor store in town with a decent craft beer selection.

Pitchers is the typical brewpub set-up. Bar is in a large room and is rather small for the size of the restaurant. There are about 6 Pitchers taps and Miller, Bud and Coors...which seem to be more of a draw than the beer they brew there.

I just happened to show up the day that the brewer and his buddy were there drinking. Hung out with him for a bit, talking good beer. I tasted his fare and was not incredibly impressed, but he brought out some of his 'not available in the brewpub - I brewed this just for the hell of it' brew and enjoyed it. It was a little stronger than the rest of the mild beers on tap. The rest of the beers just didn't have great balance and tasted a bit watered down.

The service was great and the people were not very familiar with beer styles or good beer...they motioned toward the brewmaster in order to get me any sort of help for the area. Disappointing but understandable for a town like Greeley.

Didn't try the food, but it was standard fare. The place was not really hopping, but neither was the town.

Check out the place if you are in Greeley, but I wouldn't recommend heading here at all. Hit Ft. Collins, Boulder or Denver...Greeley definitely isn't the hot spot for you.
