This is a narrow, long bar in the midtown strip of University Ave.. It is bright, smoky, loud and cramped in there. There are two bars and if you have a tab open at one bar and want a drink from the other bar you have to leave another card or close one of the tabs... this is the only place I've been that has been like that.

The beer selection is alright, better than most bars in Gainesville but not nearly as good as the designated beer bars (Stubbies, Alcove, BJ's)

I've been here a couple of times now and have never enjoyed myself and always opted to go somewhere else.

This is a frat bar with urine and beer on the floor, usually packed with over dressed and loud assholes pounding down their 11th natty light of the night. The jukebox is always, ALWAYS blaring so you have no choice but to try and yell over the ambient noise levels of the bar to hear your partner or order a beer. Usually pointing works well for this.

All the negativity out of the way, this place has a great selection of beer and tequilla (oddly). If you go there around 5PM on a Tuesday, it won't be crowded or loud and you can get some good happy hour deals like 3$ draught and stuff like that .They have their share of crap on tap and everyone that goes there drink Yuengling and thinks they are captains of industry. Its a great beer bar for selection but I do not go there because of the atmosphere.

Over 30 on tap and about 100 different bottles. I usually shoot over here when I'm at midtown and want to escape the limited choices at other bars... They have plenty of Sam Smith's and some decent Belgian's. They have some deal where you drink one beer from each country they have available and you get some around the world t-shirt for it. This is a regular old bar: dark, hazy, music, pool tables, college kids, not a club-like experience like its neighbors. Decent service. Never had the food but it's inexpensive and they usually have half off during happy hour (among other daily specials). Decent for Gainesville.

Well, my only experience with Salty Dog Saloon is on football Saturday's in which there are a massive amount of people packed into the joint. I have not been on an average night in which I could relax and sit at the bar but nonetheless I have spent my fair share of time in there standing up and drinking a few cold ones. Pretty decent selection on draft, maybe 20-25 different offerings on draft and they offer some pretty decent singles as well (Sierra Nevada and Sam Smith's are the two that stick out in my memory). This is without a doubt the place to go for a decent beer on campus as all other places you have maybe 3 or 4 choices if you are lucky. Not the best place to go for a good quality craft brew, but definately a solid offering especially considering it's location across from the stadium.
