I went to college in Bangor, and this was a frequent stop for most of those years. We recently stopped in while visiting friends and family. The place hasn't changed a bit. It's a very well lit building, with a lot of open space that gets jam-packed come weekend time. The bar is a horseshoe, and it usually packs in tightly there on weekends, also. A couple of pool tables and arcade games, with a plethora of flat-screens for all the Boston sports games. Also, when the weather permits, there is a good-sized deck overlooking the river, which can be absolutley amazing in the middle of fall. The service is hit-or-miss...sometimes the staff is great, prompt, and friendly, and other times it seems like a group of first-day trainees that hate life. The bar is usually the safest bet in terms of service. The food is decent, and there is a fairly wide selection to choose from. I recommend the clam chowder...my personal favorite. Also, fried pickles (not on the menu) which are damn tasty. The beers aren't bad, but at the same time are nothing to rave about. The Blue Paw tends to be the crowd favorite. Not terribly expensive, you can usually eat and have a few brews without killing your bank account.

Good food, better beer. Had a sampler that consisted of 13 different flavours of beer. In a nice location on the water, and the restaurant itself is huge. Looks newly renovated, really nice atmosphere. A good spot for a beer and/or a meal if you're in Bangor. Sea Dog beer is generally pretty good, average as far as flavours and styles, but downeast Maine isn't really ready for russian imperials and dipa's.

I Have been going to the sea dog in bangor for over 13 yrs and every year it becomes a bigger disappointment from the year before. The quality of their beers on tap has declined to the point I can no longer drink them. They are currently re vamping their brewing, in house for a few select beers and my hope is that the beer quality will come back around ( stop having shipyard brew your beer). Food is okay and the staff has always been friendly .. the location you cant beat in the summer, along the river

Stopping in Bangor on the way to Bar Harbor, this was an easy stop after seeing Paul Bunyan and stalking Stephen King's house for a facebook pic. Had a few bottles of Sea Dog before, so wasn't expecting a lot but hoped the food was good with the view on the patio.
The view of the river from the back patio was relaxing and nice. Our waitress was evidently having a very bad day because the service was awful and even the trainee following looking sympathetic to us. Everything was slow and took forever. Sampler tray was a bit warm and flat by the time in showed up, and the DYI pizza didn't turn out well either. Adequate.
We we drove by another Sea Dog-we kept on driving.

A truly neat adaptation of an old shipbuilding factory on the shores of the Penobscot. I have enjoyed dining inside and outside on the deck overlooking the beautiful waterfront. Open and spacious you never feel crowded here. Always a good selection of beers on tap and the wait staff is about as friendly as you can get.
Personal note to any Wings fans, do not try the Suicide. I did (I had never had wings too hot before) and nearly ended up needing to go to the hospital. What a great way to sell more beer though!!!

Atmosphere - Great location on the Bangor waterfront. Near the downtown. Inside nice open sports bar in the center with nice seating on the side areas and great seating on the deck overlooking the waterfront. Island bar in the middle had the rows of mug club mugs on the rafters.
Quality - The beers were good. I was particularly happy to see another pub with cask ales. I had the porter on cask and the brown. The porter came across beautifully on cask with nuttiness and a smooth and subtle chocolate. The brown had a nice complex malt flavor with some forward sweetness but enough hops to balance it out.
Service - Service was pretty good. The waiter passed by enough that we could get his attention easily enough. Did let the first beer get dry though - a sad moment.
Selection - They had ten beers plus two on cask.
Food - Got the artichoke & spinach dip appetizer. It came in a bread bowl with some nice thick nachos. This was a great start. Got the meatball stroganoff. Nice presentation with chives and orange. Taste was great to match and very filling. Friend got the pulled pork tacos and was also very pleased.

I have been here several times while on vacation and its always an enjoyable experience. The food is excellent there and its great place to be during the summer. Always crowded but with good efficient service. Not a nicer place to be during the summer on a warm evening and watch a Yankees vs. Red Sox game while enjoying some good food and good beer. On a nice nite they even have some outdoor seating with a great view. Worth the visit for sure I go there at least once every summer. (try the sampler to get a taste of all the varieties they are currently offering),

Visited Sunday evening. It was a typical dead sunday night, so service was readily available. Very nice place, decent sized bar, it appeared to have a nice porch seating area, but it was too cold for that. Service was decent. Our waitress was nice and helpful recommending food, but was no help with the beer. I asked what styles the thumpr and the bangor were. She replied, I don't know, it's just their names. After tasting, I had a good guess but talked to the bartender on the way out. The food was good. I had the crab cakes, lobster bisque, and the haddock soft taco. All were very good. The beers were nice, of course, had to have the sampler. I liked the IPA and the porter, they had IPA on cask. Overall, it was a very good evening at a nice brewpub.
