Out of the bottle, it poured a robust, modestly carbonated, cloudy golden/orange hue, with over a finger of white head, with average retention and lacing. The nose reminded me of 'Big Red' chewing gum; huge burning cinnamon aroma. The flavor was all cinnamon; I just couldn't get the impression of chewing 'Big Red' out of my mind...and a modestly dry finish. Medium feel, with more carbonation than expected. Way too much cinnamon; no balance.

At Sea Dog's in Topsham:
In a pint glass:
A: semi-clear golden yellow colored body with no head and once sipped no lacing whatsoever (no head, I won't blame the bartender because they're trying to give me my money's worth). No carbonation is seen rising (this is interesting?).
S: nothing, not even the pumpkin, just plain bland (if water had a smell I guess this would smell like water).
T: pumpkin and that's it, no other Autumn spices, huh?, well ok
M: light (I was able to pound this within three minutes) yet nothing harsh on the tongue
O: ok, I wanted this and now I wish I never had it because this was, in my opinion, absolutely awful. As much water as I drank before this, I'm thinking this would have helped me have a clean palate and I think it still didn't help. Now I don't know what to think, I drank at least five glasses of water after this just so I could be able to review another beer. Personally, I think this beer needs to be retired or re-worked altogether.

Tap at northborough brewpub.
Light fizzy head as its filled to the brim over light semi clear golden pilsner yellow color.
Nose has quite a bit of pumpkin and spices, canned and slight fresh pumpkin, lots of spices nutmeg, allspice, ginger, clove, etc. hint of bready malts. Over spiced and light on overall beer.
Taste is loaded with spices, tons of cinnamon and nutmeg come out, ginger and allspice and bit of clove, typical pumpkin pie spices but overboard. Then pumpkin, not really any fresh pumpkin just pie filling and essence of pumpkin oil maybe. Light bready cracker malts. A bitterness comes through with the crazy spices and a hint of pine maybe hops, and a juniper like spice flavor. A bit fruity as well, hint if sweetness that turns slightly drier, not as sticky as I expected on the finish. A bitter definite earthy hop character comes through on the finish as well, dvds light lingering pumpkin essence and plenty of spices.
Mouth is lighter bodied, decent carb.
Overall meh, not as bad as I was expecting but not very good either. Way too much spice, not the best pumpkin flavor, other weird flavors like the juniper and pine that don't mesh well.

Pours a very light golden color, odd for a pumpkin ale. Nice bright white head with good lacing and retention. Mild taste. Bready flavor with artificial, sweet pumpkin flavor. A little cinnamon as well. Enjoyable, but very artificial. Goes down easy.

This beer is a typical pumpkin beer however that said, it is a little to sweet for me. This beer has a spicy sweet malt aroma. It is a transparent orange color with a white head. The beer begins harsh on the tongue, it becomes sweet and spicy (like a pumpkin pie, cinn and nutmeg). No hops or bitterness.
Spices almost overwhelm the beer but is an easy to drink beer but it is average at best.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a light gold color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains light malts, pumpkin, spices and a faint touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of grain and barley followed by a mild pumpkin flavor and a touch of spice. Despite the breadiness, the malt character is kind of thin for the style. The hops presence is mild and there's not much balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.
M: Crisp but not very smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: Not very flavorful, does not go down easily, not too filling at least, mild kick, not a good representation of style, this one kind of seems like an adjunct lager with a slight touch of pumpkin flavor which is something you'd expect from the likes of BMC, but even their pumpkin ales have a little bit more to themthan this beer does. Overall, it's just not a good beer.

Poured from a 12-ounce twist-off into a Berkshire Brewing Co pint glass.
A: Poured a pale golden yellow color with a tinge of ruddy orange to it. The fizzy, one-finger head of foam actually retained pretty well but left no lacing.
S: A really deep whiff reveals some aromas of allspice and ginger, but otherwise the nose is clean.
T: Flavor is slightly sweet and grainy at first, then a bittering malt flavor rolls in alluding to an ESB-style ale. This is misleading, however. Subsequent sips reveal the thin, watery flavor nearly devoid of pumpkin with a sharp, bitter spiciness in the finish which leaves behind artificial pumpkin spice flavoring. Sorta nasty.
M: Mouthfeel is thin and watery for the most part. A little bit smooth near the finish, but spices ruin it.
D: I really didn't enjoy this brew enough to make it a session option for the fall. Give it a try, but there's not enough malt body and authentic aroma to mask the watery, slightly metallic flavors in the pumpkin ale. Wasn't impressed by this Sea Dog offering at all.

Serving notes: cellar temp, hefe glass.
Aroma: Nutmeg and other traditional pumpkin spices, not overpowering.
Appearance: Good head on pour, nice quarter inch remains. Clear amber-yellow.
Mouthfeel: nice medium malty backbone. Light carbonation.
Taste: Nice level of pumpkin spices. They are the most prominent note in the flavor but stop well short of being overpowering or cloying. Fruity notes from the hops in the background.
Drinkability: Very light base beer makes this a drinkable pumpkin ale.

Sea Dog Pumpkin Ale has a clear coppery color. Very little head. It smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, maybe ginger, and pumpkin. It's lovely. It tastes better than it smells. It's tastes like cinnamon toast. It has a very light body with a fizzy carbonation. Definitely the lightest pumpkin beer I have had. The drinkability is quite good and I highly recommend this pumpkin beer for it's light body and great pumpkiny flavor.

Pours a slightly dark golden color. The beer is incredibly fizzy with a tons of bubbles creating a thin white head.
Smell has a strong pumpkin smell to it. A bit of a wheat smell, but mainly dominated by the pumpkin.
Taste falls a little flat on the smell. There isa bit of a wheat taste that is taken over by a very strong pumpkin with a spice tinge also.
Mouthfeel is very smooth with a good amount of thickness.
Drinkability is fairly good for a pumpkin beer. I wasn't expecting much after seeing the reviews on this page, but this beer is not as awful as the reviews. Most people probably just read the bros. review and had no opinion themselves, so they bagged it. If you like pumpkin beers, I would give this one a try...

A PUMPKIN THAT DESERVES TO BE SMASHED
Appearance: Amber color, dark enough that I couldn't see through it. Had a thick little head which bubbled, then went away quickly.
Smell: Heavy on the pumpkin with a fruity scent. All sweetness, with no trace of bitterness whatsoever.
Taste: WATERY. Not very sweet but not bitter either. Has only a hint of pumpkin and spice, and most of it is in the aftertaste. All in all, it doesn't taste of much of anything.
Mouthfeel: Thin, with only a slight aftertaste (which is bad, being that the aftertaste has more "taste" then the beer itself). Leaves nothing on the palate, pretty much "goes without a trace."
Drinkability: Really nothing any good here. Barely any taste, thin as water, and there are plenty of better pumpkin beers out there. Do yourself a favor and buy one of those instead.

Wow, this is a terrible pumpkin beer, and an even worse beer on its own. The pumpkin taste is so fake it's almost unbearable. I tried many pumpkin beers this season and Shipyards is barely ahead of this one, which isn't saying that much, but Sea Dog's is so atrocious. I wouldn't have one again if someone paid me. Maybe if they brewed with real pumpkins and revamped the whole recipe I would try it again but steer clear of it now.

Single, twelve-ounce bottle copped from Nikki's Liquors in Providence...
Appearance: Not-too-impressive... light, see-through, light-copper hue with no head nor lacing...
Smell: Unassertive, faint, slight malt and pumpkin aroma... Nothing much going on here nor in the overall flavor... Fake pumpkin, artificial-like aroma...
One of the worst pumpkin ales I've sampled...
Not recommended...

L: Pours a yellow color with a medum sized but thin white colored head that leaves some lacing down the glass.
S: Very pumpkin-pie-esque. It smells of spices mostly - nutmeg, cinnamon, and some vanilla with pumpkin and a bit of malt in the nose.
T: Kind of bland. Mostly nutmeg and cinnamon, not much else. I was expecting alot more from the nose but it just didn't deliver.
M: Nice and light on the tongue with a good amount of carbonation.
D: OK. If it had more flavor it would be more drinkable.

I've been drinking this beer for about 3-4 years now since i've been living in the Bangor area. Personally, i find when you open it, the smell is what hits you. The aroma of it is amazing, almost a pumpkin cider type smell.
But that's about where it ends. From there the appearance comes out average. The taste is slightly above average but you can only have 2-3 max at a time otherwise it becomes too much for you.
I like to have it to start a night off right especially before moving to a Pumpkinhead or Harpoon Oktoberfest. But usually only one. So that's what i'd recommend for others to do as well.

Pours a pale yellow with very little head.
Smell has a very slight hint of pumpkin spice, even a small cider aroma.
Taste is horrible though, from the moment it hits the tongue, especially on the sides. Taste is very light, similar to sparkling water in both taste and carbonation, thin on all accounts. Any hint of spice from the smell is lost on the taste.
Highly not recommended, far better pumpkin ales out there.
