Served from a bottle into a pint glass at home.

Appearance is fine. Nothing out of the ordinary for a spiced beer. Maybe a little on the clear side, as there is no haziness to it.

Smell has strong ginger and spice notes. Perhaps a little potent, but I was very interested by the smell.

Taste- I have had two of these. The first one I put an orange slice in. It was decent, but not great. The spice and ginger from the smell are present in the taste, and perhaps a little blunt. I would rate the beer a little higher if I had only had it with orange. The second bottle I poured over a lemon slice. It was awful. The metallic aftertaste that other reviewers have noted was strong and unpleasant.

I poured the second one down the drain. At some point I will try another without any fruit and see if my opinion changes, but I would definitely not buy this again. Such a shame, because I like the Dark Star Stout, and as a Virginian, I want to support local brewers. Better luck next time, Star Hill.

A: 1.5 finger bright white foam head on a hazy bright golden body. Decent lacing and retention.

S: mild citrus, mostly lemon and lime with some corriander and mustly pale malts.

T: Mild lemon and malts up front with a minimally tart lime and spicey finish.

M: light body and moderate to high carbonation.

Overall: Overall both aroma and taste are very mild. Its not a bad tasting beer but too bland.
