Clear medium copper/amber with a substantial tan head that retains fairly well but doesn't manage much lacing.

The aroma is toasted grain, a hint of caramel and just a faint trace of grass and citrus.

The taste also starts off with a toasted malt note but is followed quickly by a kick of very grassy hops, which intensifies toward the finish with a burst of citrus peel (grapefruit?) and a carbonic aftertaste.

Light bodied, highly carbonated but easy enough to drink. The best I've had yet from Weston, but still needs a bit of work.

Picked this one up recently while visiting a buddy and catching the Broncos smoke the Chiefs! Found at a store in Overland Park, KS. Not sure of the name. The label doesn't match the one in the photo. There is no bottling date or lot number. It is a dark blue/green with a Revolutionary War looking figure.

Poured a translucent copper color that produced a froathy ivory head which eventually reduced to nothing more than an inconsistently laced ring around the glass. The smells are actually pretty robust. Very reminiscent of an east coast IPA. Has that dish soap hoppy aroma. Slight resin. The tastes, unfortunately, don't live up to the smells. It is very thin. The bitterness leaves quickly and there is much to be desired. Now I will admit, this bottle may have been sitting on the shelf for awhile as it appears to be a small operation and I've had it on my shelf for a few weeks. Again, it lacks a bitter bite. Especially for a 7.5% beer (although my bottle doesn't have an ABV). Starts strong with a great smell and falls a bit short. Not a horrible beer by any means and by looking at a few of the other reviewers, I may be the most generous around these parts. I picked up a few of their other beers so we'll see what some different offerings have to, well, offer.

22 oz bomber pours a clear deep amber with quickly dissapating head and no lacing. Aroma is metallic, light bmc lager smelling - slight hint of pineapple I suppose. Taste shows bittering hops are present but honestly not much in the way of hop flavor, dominated by soapy malt. Limp mouthfeel with bad aftertaste. Clearly a drain pour - my scores are generous to this one.

Light copper amber color with a thin off white head.

Big assertive fresh pineapple nose.

Mouthfeel is medium and well balanced.

Flavors are like a fruity double with big hop character and with a simple bitter finish.

Description sounds better than the beer. This is decent; it's "ok" but nothing special.

Review based on notes, beer sampled 3-4 weeks ago.

Pours an effervescent copper with 2 fingers of fast falling cream colored head. No lacing or head retention

S: Vegtal & metallic odors up front. Some biscuitty malt once warm

T: Biscuitty malt, dryness, herbal, floral & metallic hops up front along with some toffee. Green apple & dry caramel as this warms. Finishes dry with grassy hops & toffee sweetness

MF: Medium bodied with low carbonation. Not too balanced

Drank alright, but all over the map, pretty typical of the brewery IMO...

22 oz. bomber poured in a weizen glass.

Bought on a recommendation that this was an above-average IPA. He must have been thinking of another beer.

Pours to a golden amber color, very clear. A nice color. Very minimal head with no lacing. Carbonation continues with small bubbles throughout the drink. Grassy nose with malt, different from most IPAs.

Flavor I can't figure out. Some bitterness, but my tongue is confused. Leaves an aftertaste that makes me want a glass of water.

About all that I can say positive is it looks good. The color reminds me of orange shellac. At least it tastes better than shellac.

22oz bomber into a pint

A - Thick and opaque, deep dark golden in color. Light head formation, only a film, which then breaks down to bubbles. Just a light amount of lacing.

S - A bit of a surprise here, a malty note comes through. Caramel, crystal, toasted malts.

T - Starts off with some light 2 row, but then immediately breaks into some harsh, roasted, toasted, very nutty notes. Almost burnt at times. Very bitter, but not much for hopping. Finishes with more of the very toasty malt notes. Some estery, perhaps oxidized flavors are present.

M - Moderate beer body, somewhat thin at times. Carbonation is strong, at times stinging. Finishes with an oily bitter texture.

D - Moderate to low drinkability. Flavors are just too strongly burnt to drive drinkability. ABV is high, in line for a DIPA.

The beer pours a golden orange color with a white head. The aroma is a mix of earthy and resiny hops. I also get some citrus notes. The flavor is earthy hops, orange citrus notes and some bready malts. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not a great IPA, but not a bad one either.

A - Poured out a clear, copper color with a two-finger, spongy, head of white foam. It left minimal traces of lace.

S - It smelled earthy with some fresh cut grass. A nice bit of caramel in the nose.

T - It was spicy and a little acidic. Again it had grassy and earthy hop character with a sweet caramel maltiness.

M - It was crisp and fairly sharp. A light to medium-bodied ale.

D - This one seems like an English Double IPA, but on most levels it didn't really work. I wouldn't say its bad, but it was odd.

Presentation: 22oz brown bomber; nice label, no date that I saw

Appearance: Bright copper brew, nice big ivory cap with good retention. Light carbonation.

Smell: This is in the American DIPA range, but it smells more like a British IPA (not that that's a bad thing really). Biscuity malt, a light minereal character, and some light citrusy hops. Light fruity esters. Pretty mild.

Taste: Light on flavor, huge on bitterness. Almost puckering IBUS (even though it's only at 85). There's just not any maltiness (or much of anything else) to balance it out. I'm sorry, but how do you brew a 7%+ beer and have this little flavor? I don't want to be this hard on a beer from such a cool sounding brewery, but...there's a tiny bit of floral character and a ton of bitterness here...that's about it.

Mouthfeel: Light for the abv/style

Drinkability: Good enough I guess, in that it's fairly easy to drink, but I don't want another one really

Conclusion: Dissappointed.

Served in a Russian River "Belgian-style stemmed glass". No need for a detailed review for this beer. As others have stated this is probably the best beer Weston Brewing has made, but it's still far from being a beer worth seeking out. Sure, it's cheap at under $4 for a 22oz bomber, but it's definitely a case of "you get what you pay for" with this IPA...or DIPA.

I get virtually no hop aroma, and I'm sure this is reasonably fresh. The taste is a little better, but still far below other local beers from breweries such as Boulevard or 75th St. or Free State or 23rd St. or McCoys, etc. I would love to talk to the brewers at Weston sometime and get their thoughts.

I don't think every beer has to be earth-shattering to be considered drinkable, but this beer is just not very good. It's certainly a small step in the right direction for Weston Brewing, but they've still got miles to go before serious craft beer drinkers will be won over.

22 oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. Nice two fingers width of dirty white head. Good retention on the head, though lacing is mostly spotty. Color is a dark copper red with a dense center. Solid streamers of carbonation swirl up from the nucleation spot.

Smell has a pronounced graininess from the crack of the crown. Very unusual for an IPA. There is a dry roasted bitterness in the malt, but I'm not getting much in the way of a hops bitterness. Taste has some lemongrass sweetness, but it is still dominated by a toasty malt character.

Mouthfeel has a light body with a biting carbonation. It still drinks pretty well. This is probably best offering to date from Weston, and I'm glad to see improvements from them. Even still, for me this is not very successful as an American Double/Imperial IPA. The label says it has IBU's at 89, but I don't see it. Hops seems secondary. I think it would greatly improve with some additional dry hopping.

Surprised to see this beer show up on the shelves. I'm glad to see a new format from Weston since they have had such a problem with infections in their 12oz bottling line.

Poured a 22oz bomber into my Tripel Karmeliet tulip. This beer pours a dark copper with a decent 2 inch head that leaves just a little bit of lacing down the sides of the glass. The color really reminds me of fall leaves. Its a bit darker then I would have thought but not in a negative way. The aroma is unexpectedly grainy up front with a bit of caramel, toast and at last a little lemon and grass. For the 89 IBU's it says on the bottle, you wouldn't have guessed it out of the nose. The flavor thankfully, is more in line with what I would expect from a big IPA. Lemon still is the dominant hop flavor with a bit of grass and just a hint of grapefruit pith. The malt backbone is secondary, but balances the bitterness rather well. The most obvious flavor is at the very tail, with a massive medicinal bitterness coming through. Reminds me of leaving a uncoated aspirin tablet that has sat on you tongue just a little to long. It seems like all the hops used in this beer were used as bittering hops. Next time Weston; throw some hops in on a schedule. Maybe a bunch at 15 minutes. It would definitely balance out the bitterness. The mouthfeel is nice and light, with a bright carbonation that pulls the bitterness of the palate. This is easily, the best beer I've ever had from Weston. I'm glad to see them trying to turn around a failing brewery. Lets hope they keep on this path.
