Beer #4 in the great Utah Brew Hunt.

Honestly, this beer struck me as more of an English Porter than an American one. It was mellow and even with minimal vibrant flavor tones that really stood out. Even and consistent and an easy one to drink, but for the style, I'd hope for a bit more kick in the mouth.

this is disturbingly underrated on BA here. maybe the nitro tap made all the difference, but i thought this was a sensational porter, especially for being within the 4% limit. pours a dead sexy coffee black with a 2 inch nitro cream head, more like an oatmeal stout than a porter, but man does this look rich. smells kind of dull actually, some roasted barley and even a touch of yeasty must in there. flavor is light but satisfying. dark malts and some english style malt features too. touch of bittering hops in the background. feel is lovely, creamy and drinkable, if a bit acidic for some reason. overall a great porter with an even better tag line, "why have just one? bring some home for the wives!" gotta love it.

This pour had a dark brown body with a rich, creamy, one inch head. Light roasted, earthy scent. Taste was as I expected; smooth roasted brown malts. Very light mouth feel and reminiscent of Guinness draft. I could have more than a few of these. An all around great porter that I was glad to run into.

Enjoyed on nitro tap at the Wasatch brewpub, park City.

Poured a dark brown with a nice light tan head, little retention and very spotty lacy.

Aroma of chocolate, light roasted malt.

Taste of semi sweet chocolate, mild roasted malt, coffee, a hint of vanilla and a very slight bitter hop.

mouthfeel was medium leaning light body, with moderate carbonation, very smooth (nitro).

Overall this is a nice porter considering brewing with all the Utah restrictions. The name is worth a few points, thanks Wasatch, one wasn't enough.

A: A nice dark black color that has a decent head that fades too fast.

S: A chocolate and malty smell.

T: The chocolate is present, but the malts are the main flavor. slightly heavy flavor reminiscent of a barley dough. A fairly strong flavor that sticks with you.

M: The beer is thinner than it looks. flows well, but the head does not last long enough.

D: Slightly heavy flavor and a bit on the malty side to drink a lot of.

A: Thick black with a nice, full half-inch of cream-colored head that remains big the entire way down. Generous clumps of thick lacing down the entire glass. Gorgeous-looking stout.

S: Weak nose... Some roasted malt and light coffee character, but it's not very aromatic.

T: Roasted malt, a light chocolate and coffee bitterness in the mid-taste, and mild hop bitterness in the finish. I have to struggle to find these though. No real character to the taste.

M: Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Good mouthfeel, just nothing substantial to taste.

D: Meh.

Had off the nitrous tank at the airport Squatter’s location. From what I’ve seen of the other reviews, perhaps this is the way to serve it. The labeling and tap handle had a lucky guy with seven ladies. I wonder if the mormon folks think that this is funny?

Poured a pitch black with absolutely no light coming through. Very small amount of tendrils of carbonation were lifting up along the edges of the pint glass, but it had an ultra creamy dark tan head that left excellent lacing throughout the pint.

Light aroma of toasted and bitter malts.

A medium-heavy brew, it had a nice round and creamy flavor profile. There was an initial wash of mocha coffee and light bitter chocolate. It finished lightly sugary, with a sweet and dry finish. Not as complex as it could be, but definitely well done.

After reading the other reviews, I’m pretty happy that I didn’t buy a sixer to go, since the bottle version doesn’t even sound like the beer that I had. However, it was damn tasty and could easily become a heavy drinkin’ session brew. If I went back out west, I’d be looking for this one on tap.

Poured from bottle to pint glass, black with a small head. Aroma of dark roast / barley malt / coffee, bitter finish with lingering coffee notes. Watery and thin. Not bad for a porter, but not something that I would seek out in the future. Take some home for the wives!

I bought this one at a Total Wine and More in Glendale AZ, so it's hard to say how old the beer was. Overall disappointed, but kind of figured seeing that it is a novelty brew. If there ever were any aroma or flavor hop additions, they were long gone from the bottle I drank and I could not distinguish any of the bittering hops. Could not make out any yeast flavorings either, this beer was very clean of distinct flavors, no caramel or roasted notes.

Plain ale with black malt additions ...nothing more.

This beer had a beautiful dark color and reddish held to the light, one of the best looking beers I have ever seen ...unfortunately, that was the only good thing to say about it ... I don't buy beers to look at them.

To be fair, I will try to find a fresher one and change this post if in fact it is better.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint.

A: Dark brown or black. Pours about a half finger, bubbly, brown-white head. Dissipates quickly, leaving a slight trace of the once present head. No lacing.

S: Roasted coffee, cardboard, and maybe a slight hint of molasses.

T: Roasted paper, tea leaves, with some indistinct sweet hints.

M: A little sweeter than it should be, and a little lighter feel than it should be.

D: Goes down easy, session style.

Atmosphere is okay. Slight head, but no lacing. Nose is....something....roasted with some sweet, chocolate, and coffee accentuates. Flavor is shallow roasted something with sweet something. Overall, this is an okay quaff.

A - Poured dark in color. The color really resembled a Coke or Pepsi in my opinoin. I just poured a small off white head.

S - Wonderful smell. Lots of things going on. Huge chocolate smell up front. THere was also hints of cherry, liquorice, and a slight smoky smell.

T - Pretty disappointing taste after such a great smell. The smoky was there but the others were just not there for me. I expected lots of chocolate, but it was absent for the most part.

M - Silky with a very dry finish

O - This beer smells better than it tastes. The smell was great but the taste didn't live up to it. Still, an easy drinking porter and one could definately drink several.

Wasatch Polygamy Porter has a medium, creamy, beige head, a dark, reddish-brown, yet clear, appearance, some streaming bubbles, and splotchy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of creamy, dark-roasted malt and maybe a whiff of dark cherry. Taste is of roasted malt, charcoal, brown bread crust, a shadow of dark cherry, and some powder of some sort (the coal?). Mouthfeel is light and watery, with a bit of slickness, and Wasatch Polygamy Porter finishes wet, plain, and just good. Overall, I would say that this beer is at the lower end of what could be classified a good beer. It's worth checking out, though.

Overall this beer is OK.
I drink it when I visit SLC.
Love the label!
It looks dark, smells clean and appealing.
It's best after skiing or biking.
I wish the ABV was higher.
As far as porters go, it's not enough of a porter.
In the words of some Irish friends I met on a ski lift,"It's thin."

At 4% abv seems like a reasonable late afternoon drink and with the very cold of January (10 degrees) and porter seems welcome.
Nice soft chocolate with hints of roast and a little bigger kick of vanilla.
Very dark with highlights of burgundy. Creamy tan head that leaves some lacing.
A light drinking beer, but holding enough flavor to be enjoyable. Soft roast and chocolate. This one seems to have a bit of age on it with a hints of sourness creeping in. Fortunately those are fleeting and got to this one before all hell broke loose. Finishes soft and mildly drying holding bits of hop flavors.
Light body. Fullness from carbonation, but it is soft.
This is a perfectly nice light drink, hitting the spot just fine.

Poured from a 355ml bottle into a Fullers snifter glass.

Pours a black colour with a slightly off-white head.

Smells of burnt malts with a hint of chocolate.

Chocolate disappears with the taste, though the burnt malts are still there, and combine with a thin mouthfeel to form a dry, crisp taste.

Overall a very nice porter.

A lot of dark and charred malt flavors. On the dry side, perhaps more like a stout, but a chuggable, thirst quenching brew in any case.

Quite a watery body. Modest foam on the dark brown beer with a reddish cast. Adequate carbonation in the mouth. Some bitterness in the aftertaste. Very faint malty sweetness followed by the hint of stale coffee and scorched grain. But all very pale.

There is not much of interest here. It reminds me of the dark lagers that were endemic to pizza places in the 1970s, like Falstaff and Michelob Dark.

Stumbled across a fantastic airport bar with a fantastic microbrew tap selection while on a short layover in Salt Lake City
A - near pitch black with just a little light around the edges, one finger of head with solid retention and plenty of lacing
S - coffee and roasty malt aromas, mild chocoalte, very mellow
T - Roasty and cocoa malts dominate, mild grain and leafiness, touch of cola
M - smooth and light with just a bit of a chaulky cocoa feel
O - a pretty solid offering from a brewer i had never tried, but this was the first of about 5 i managed to get down my gullet before my connecting flight

Had to muster through a whole 6er of these gems.

A - Wasn't too bad, caramel brown in the light, one finger head that dissipated fairly quickly to a thin film.

S- Lighter than what I expected, but gave small notes of chocolate, coffee, malt

T- A lot lighter than I expected, a lot lighter. The flavors indicated by the smell were so toned down , not what I expected from a porter.

M- A lot lighter and watery than I expected. Like some have said, it would be passable if it had just a bit of chewiness, but it just doesn't.

Overall- This seems to be to porters what Coors Light is to lagers. I felt like it had to have been cut with water to taste so bland. I'm now scared to try their "Devastator", becaue I fear it's not going to be quite as extreme as it sounds.

Poured into a Great Divide pint glass. Medium dark brown color, a bit lighter highlights. Head is a very small half of a finger, maybe just a large collar, that is light cocoa colored and thin in body.

Smell is light chocolate and coffee, some bright hop aromas.

Taste is not much like the nose. Like the nose there are some bright hops but after that the coffee and chocolate are very light and really meh. Other than the water this was brewed with I don't get much more.

Mouth is very thin with mild carbonation. Body doesn't exist and the finish is weak and dry.

Overall I am really glad this one was a sample given to me because paying for a "Porter" and getting this watery mess would have really pissed me off. This one is a very light Brown, at best. Precede with caution.

Picked this up for the name & slogan alone, which are easily the best I've ever seen on a beer label. 12 oz. bottle.

Pour is darkest brown with ruby showing through the edges. Nice roast in the nose, rounded with chocolate & grain.

Polygamy Porter would be a highlight-reel if not for its one glaring weakness. Thin. Thin thin thin. The watery mouthfeel is the first & last thing I experience as the liquid slides down my throat; thin doesn't quite cut what this beer is. There is a nice roast, light nuttiness, sliver of chocolate, the roast is the only thing that stands out. Easy to drink, just like a cool glass of water.

I imagine this is what steins of beer cut with water in a Middle Ages tavern tasted like. So close - give me more chewy, & this would be a 4% ABV winner, & the world certainly need more of those. As is? Decent enough.

There is nothing wrong with Wasatch Polygamy Porter. It's just a little boring. It's also a bit dry for my tastes, but some people like that.

A: Dark black color and a poor head that fades quickly. 3

S: Nice coffee aroma with, maybe, a little sweet malt. 4.5

T: Very dry and a little flavourless. Milky with some mineral flavours. 3

M: Milky with a low amount of carbonation. 3

Poured into a pint glass. Pours dark brown (almost black) with some ruby red visible around the bottom of the glass. The head is thin and light tan. The aroma is of dark roasted barley malt with some chocolate and coffee. The taste follows the nose. There's dark roasted barley malt, coffee, and those chocolate notes are very faint. It's mostly roasty in the flavor, but not to the point of tasting burnt. The body is light with moderate carbonation. The drinkability is high, but only because the beer is so thin. This is an average beer that doesn't bring much to the table.

A- pours dark brown with a small tan head with decent retention, no lacing.

S- tomato soup, smoky, cocoa powder, pretty mild overall.

T- mineral, toast, grass, herbal hop, cocoa powder, finishes very dry. Undertoned taste for a typical porter.

M- medium carbonation, very light body, slick, drinks more like an ale.

O- taking its style I to account, it's just too light for a porter, if I was in the mood for a porter, I wouldn't choose is one. It is however very drinkable and could be a good switch up as a session beer option. Interesting.

On tap at airport.
Black with a night light tan foam surface. Wood, coffee, dry hazelnuts and hints of toasted cream on the nose. Smells dry and I light that in a porter. Taste follows with a dry and woody flavor with hints of cold pressed coffee and some soil or dustyness. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel and salivating finish. I like the beer, particularly at 4%.

Poured into a pint glass.

2.5 A: Deep amber brown color. About one finger of frothy beige head that fell quickly and left no lacing.

3.5 S: Big roastiness with some toastiness thrown in. Light chocolate. Grainy malts. Not overly powerful, but pleasant and powerful enough.

2.0 T: Taste is missing everything that I like about the nose. Much less roastiness, almost no chocolate, way less graininess. There isn't much going on overall.

2.5 M: Lighter body. Too much carbonation. Lacking all creaminess.

2.0 D: Aside from the nose, this isn't a winner. Fairly bland without any good porter qualities.
