Stumbled across a fantastic airport bar with a fantastic microbrew tap selection while on a short layover in Salt Lake City
A - near pitch black with just a little light around the edges, one finger of head with solid retention and plenty of lacing
S - coffee and roasty malt aromas, mild chocoalte, very mellow
T - Roasty and cocoa malts dominate, mild grain and leafiness, touch of cola
M - smooth and light with just a bit of a chaulky cocoa feel
O - a pretty solid offering from a brewer i had never tried, but this was the first of about 5 i managed to get down my gullet before my connecting flight

On tap at airport.
Black with a night light tan foam surface. Wood, coffee, dry hazelnuts and hints of toasted cream on the nose. Smells dry and I light that in a porter. Taste follows with a dry and woody flavor with hints of cold pressed coffee and some soil or dustyness. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel and salivating finish. I like the beer, particularly at 4%.

Appearance: This basically looks like a black lager or a very dark brown ale. Very thin, flat, and watery overall.
Smell: Some hints of coffee and caramel and that's about it. A bit minerally as well.
Taste/Mouthfeel: More vague hints of coffee and caramel. There's just not much flavor here.
Overall Drinkability: It's definitely easy to drink, but that's because it's so thin.

Served at a good temperature with a large, foamy, frothy, tan head that settled to a ring after a bit and no lace. Color is a deep, dark, clear mahoganey. Aroma is beery, roast, cocoa, malt, hint sour. Flavor is like nose and quite mild; fairly dry, and has some carbonic tang to stand to the malt. Body is on the thin side and makes carbonation seem more pronounced. Finish is like flavor, has a short length, and is balance. Kind of like a mild or 60 shilling beer.

Enjoyed on October 5, 2011 at the pub in SLC airport.
A: Deep Brown with a ruby hue. Brown head that lives lacing down the glass.
S: roasted malt, dark chocolate. A touch of sweetness, with hints of coffee.
T: a lot like the aroma. Roasted malt is the dominant flavor. I get dark chocolate and coffee. Starts out with a touch of sweetness and finishes with some roasted malt bitterness.
M: medium thin body with low-carb.
O: pretty good porter. Would definitely drink again.

On-tap at SLC airport
Pours dark brown with minimal head.
Very subtle smell. Hard to pick up anything really, except a bit of roasted and chocolate malt.
Taste is very watery coffee, light hops and subtle earthy roasted malt. I wouldn't call it "good", but nothing offensive. A bit of chocolate on the finish.
This is incredibly thin for the style.
If this weren't so thin and watery, I think some nice flavors would come through. But I don't live in a world of "if". A disappointment.

The Poligamy Porter, good name by the way, is another victum to Utah law...I can't believe the Utah beer lovers haven't tried to succeed to the republic of Colorado. The appearance is a deep amber with no head. The was not much to describe as far as the smell...nothing maybe a hint molasses. The taste carried something sweet, reminded me of toffee/molasses...but not much else. Did not have a lot of body....very light. The mouthfeel was fairly smooth, but its not a great porter.

Had this one on tap at the Squatters Pub in the SLC airport.
Appearance: Comes out a light brown color with deep ruby highlights. About a finger of slightly off white head forms, lacing and retention are pretty decent. A pretty light looking porter.
Smell: Slightly roasty, with hints of chocolate and a good deal of floral hops.
Taste: About the same as the smell. Very light roasted/chocolate malts, with a good deal of floral hops to provide some balance.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability: This beer is light bodied, with too much carbonation for the style. Overall a decent porter considering the adherence to 4% abv. Worth a try if you get the chance.

On tap at the airport.
Really dark, as a porter should be... there is a dominant chocolate aroma followed by a chocolate malt taste. The roasted malts really come through on the palate.
It's a little thin on the mouth, like the Amber Ale I had before. easy to drink for a porter.

On tap at Squatter's Pub SLC airport, waiting for the frickin' fog to clear in Pasco WA 11.28.10.
One finger light tan head, quick dissipation with some lacing. Dark brown body with garnet highlights, no visible carbonation. Nose features roasted malt, some coffee, pretty sweet, negligible hops. Taste is coffee, chocolate, roast, a bit sweet, noble hops on back end, coffee more noticeable as it warmed. Medium light mouthfeel, pretty thin for style. Pretty sessionable drinkability, but in terms of flavor, this is no Black Butte Porter.

A: Very dark--nearly black with a slight, red tint; minimal head that dissipates to a razor thin film; lacing is quite intricate
S: Dark roasted malts; hints of chocolate, vanilla, and raisins; a bit muted aromas but pleasant
T: Nicely roasted malts--a touch of chocolate and vanilla permeate but all in all the flavors are rather simple; a bit watery
F: Fairly creamy up front but quite thin on the back end
D: Although the thinness and simplicity makes this a tad boring, it is still a fairly pleasant and drinkable beer. I'm not sure if it makes me want a second wife but perhaps a second beer instead

Smell: Pretty weak. Some dry cocoa nib.
Taste: A little roasty. Pretty fizzy which isn't really common to the style and was as though designed to make up for a lack of flavor. The middle is sweet cocoa and the finish is pretty dry with a hint of roastiness and caramelized malt.
Note: Catchy name but I wish they would have put their creative juices into brewing a better beer.

On tap at 'The Bit and Spur', Springdale, outside Zion NP. Had this for desert after a very good Pasta dish.
Pint glass, dark, almost black body. A rich creamy head of tanned bubbles sat on top, sadly they fell away very quickly to just a collar and thin wispy covering.
The smell was encouraging, roasted/toasted malts with some coffee and dark chocolate hidden in the background.
The taste however let it down somewhat, as did its depth of body. I know the 4% ABV law doesn't help the brewers of Utah, but this just seemed a bit weak and thin in the flavour stakes.
There are plenty of good flavoursome beers below 4% ABV, this isn't one of them in my eyes.

Pours a nice dark brown color, some carbonation, nice small creamy off-white head, with some nice sticky lacing. Scents of malts, and chocolate. The taste is malty, very slight hop, with some toffee/chocolate. Medium body. Very drinkable would make a nice session brew. This brew tastes alot better on-tap.

Appearance: leather brown in color, small head, clear, medium carbonation
Smell: toasted malt--not the strongest smelling porter
Taste: toasted malt, a touch of hops to balance, and a bit of earth
Mouthfeel: smooth, light bodied for the style, small carbonation, semi-sweet
Drinkability: This to me is an average porter. I could have a couple. I could just as easily pass. It does hit all the style bases.

On tap at the SLC airport "brewpub" location in the D concourse. Have always liked the label, and even own a PP T-shirt. So high time I tried it I guess.
This beer doesn't look very porter like, looking more like reddish ice tea. Don't get a whole lot of head retenion or lacing either. The nose is equally unimpresive, consisting of some sweet roasty malt aroma and not much else. Flavors replicate the nose in this one dimensional beer, and it has something of watery finish. Alcohol is well disguised, not that at 4% abv., there's all that much to disguise.
Mehhh. Been a while since I've had a porter this boring/uninteresting. Glad I just got a single "cheater pint glass" of it.

Clear dark red colored beer with a small tan head.
Smells of sweet malt and smoke, distinct toffee candy smell. Slight coffee aroma but really this is more small candy maker caramel and less patent malt.
Starts out smoky and pleasant, tastes drier than it smells. Keeps hitting the smoke and artisan caramel flavors. Quite tasty and a smoked porter by taste.
Mouthfeel is light, Blame the Utah 4% on tap only laws for brewing all their beers dry.
Still this is a mighty tasty "light Porter" not really a style but an accurate description.

With only 15 minutes to imbibe while catching a connecting flight in SLC airport, my wife and I ducked in the small Wasatch brewpub and sampled a 24 oz glass of my favorite beer style.
A: Dark black coffee with creamy, lacy tan head that retained till the last sip
S: Roasty, hints of cocoa, coffee beans, hint of carob
T: Medium bodied roasted maltiness, more coffee than chocolate, touch of hops for balance.
M: A little thin for a porter but not a major transgression
D: Seemingly supremely sessionable for this style, just wish I had time to find out
The marketing for the beer is so ballsy and outstanding I've been wanting to try it for some time. Glad I finally got to do so. Solid porter that won't knock your socks off, but shouldn't be disappointing either.

On draft at the Wasatch Salt Lake City tap house.
Dark brown with a 1.5 finger light tan head. Head drops with moutainesque stay (trying to decifer my notes on that one - I think it had to do with peaks and valleys in the head).
Nice aroma - malt and noticeable roasted aroma.
Good carbonation. Spider web clinging on the sides of the glass during consumption.
Very mild chocolate flavor. Good mouthfeel and the beer finishes with strong flavor which is certainly good for a porter.

Damn, I tried a lot of beer in just a few days in Utah.
A - Pour into a pint glass, standard dark porter, ruby edges. Lumpy, creamy head. Yeah, I'll take it.
S - Roasted coffee with cream, bitter chocolate.
T - More roasted coffee, some hop does end up coming across in the finish. Not particularly complicated, but tastes quite good.
F - Had good creaminess in feel.
D - All around solid beer that you could have a few of. I bought the t-shirt.

Enjoying a pint at the squatters Pub at the airport this poured a very dark mahogany with some rosey hilights, a modest off-white froth on top and good lacing. The aroma is a mild dark chocolate with not much else to go by. The taste jumps out with nice charcoal and tart orange/lemon. Somewhat aqueous and easy drinking for the style. The chocolate is less prevalent in the taste than in the aroma. Some biscuit and maybe a cranberry touch. Definitely good. Porter lovers will enjoy.

A-Dark brown with a medium light tan head. Left decent lacing.
S-Light roastines and a bit of chocolate. A faint whiff of hops filters through.
T-Roasty malt and chocolate flavours blend nicely and then fade into a bit of bittersweetness. A light hop tingle at the end.
M-Medium body with a slightly dry, silky smooth finish.
D-With what Utah brewers have to work with, nothing more than 3.2% ABW, I cannot complain about this beer. Nice roasty flavour and an easy drinkibility. As their slogan states...Why have just one?

Basically, this is a good but not great porter. It's got the trademark roasted chocolate malts with a hint of coffee, but it all tastes a little watered down compared to full strength (say, 5% abv) porter. Still, that helps the drinkability, and it's nice to have a dark beer besides an Irish stout, that's highly sessionable. Worth a try for the name alone.

I had this porter at a beer bar while flying through Salt Lake and thought it was ok.
Poured on deep brown much like a Black Butte Porter with a small brown head. Nose was roasted malts. Taste was good but would not go out of my way to drink it again. Roasted mlats, espresso and chewy but if its on tap I wouldnt turn it down either.

This was available on tap when I visited Squatters Pub and Brewery and how could I pass this up? I remember when they advertised it on a local billboard several years ago, leading to a huge outcry and really putting them on the map.
It had a foamy, light-tan head upon arrival. The color was a deep, dark-brown with ruby highlights. The nose was roasty and chocolaty. The mouthfeel was very effervescent, creating a tingling sensation on the tongue. I got a light chocolate/charcoal taste on the tongue. The finish had a lingering chocolate flavor. I ended up just having one but only because I did not have multiple wives to take some home to, plus the Provo Girl had been crooking her index finger in my direction for some time up to that point ...
