Now known as Nurnberger Alm, this restaurant caught my eye on the way down the hill as I was looking for food and drink. The inside was quiet with rusted wood on the interior and a bit of an alpine theme happening. Still, it was relatively simple overall, in terms of atmosphere, hospitality, food, and drink.

With 20 beers available (divided into 6 taps and 14 bottles) featuring brands such as Pyraser, Gutmann, Elch-Brau, and Lindenbrau, it was one of the largest bar selections that I saw in Bavaria. The two beers from tap that I ordered came with their own branded mugs, and tasted good. Prices are impressive too, with beers ranging from €2.10-3.20.

A simple bratwurst and sauerkraut dish fueled my engine again, and then it was off to the city center.

Caitlin and I stopped in here on 25SEP10 between visiting the Nürnberg castle and their Altstadtfest. It provided a chance to get out of the cold and rain, as well as to try some new, interesting biers.

Entering from the street, you are first in a small, light-wooded foyer, with a "Grüß Gott" sign welcoming you. Through the door on the right and you're in! The place runs long from front to back, with a short wall separating dining areas into left and right. There's dark paneling about 1/3 up the walls, with white-washed stone above. Plenty of dark-wood beams and posts support the equally dark ceiling. Lighting is dim yet warm and comfy. The tables and benches are made of well worn, light wood, with 3 to 4 tables along the left in different nooks, plus 4-5 on the right side of the low wall in more alcoves. A couple of small tables are along the aisle next to the wall, with a few stools near the bar in the rear. Bier pics, posters and paraphernalia adorn the walls here. Oddly, there was no music of any kind playing, just the low hum of people enjoying themselves. Service was friendly and efficient from start to end. The bier list had about 15 to 20 selections, the majority of which emanated from the Franconia region. A solid list of some good regionals plus some obscurities. Can't really rate food, as I didn't eat, and Caitlin only ordered a dessert. That being said, their Apfelküchl was huge and fantastic, according to Caitlin. Would return here any time when in Nürnberg, myself.

Prosit!!

Small cozy bar close to the Castle on Burg Strasse, about 25 minutes walk from main Railway Station, or get Metro Line U1 to Plarrer then tram No 4 (direction Thon) and get off at Tiergartner Tor, then only few minutes walk. From that tram stop you can also visit Schlenkerla and Altstadhof beer taverns!

Hutt'n is a very small bar in rustic style, with seating for about 60 people only. Great selection of local beers, with around 4 beers from the barrel each day (selection may vary) together with 10 to 15 other bottled beers at all times. Beer from the barrel costs around €2.50 for half litre (Sept 2006) and bottle price vary according to strength. Lively atmosphere - though can be a bit smokey - and being small fills quickly in evening, so you need to be early to get a table if you want to eat too (or make a reservation) Food very good and excellent value. Opens 4pm weekdays, 11am Saturdays and Sundays, and quieter mid-day. Highly recommended for the atmosphere and beer selection.
