This is a fabulous beer that has has all of the qualities that I look for in a Porter. It has a dark almost black appearance with a smell of chocolate and coffee. The beer has a rich malty flavor with a fine aftertaste. It is not bitter but not sweet either. It has a thick mouthfeel and is very drinkable. I could have many of these at a single session. Yum.

A -very deep brown, little brown head from tap.
S - roasty, no hop aroma. Nice but hard at bar.
T - roasty and coffee. Clean. Not to harsh or offensive.
M/D - average body,easy to drink.
Good solid porter, could end up leaving with a growler of it.

Pours pretty dark brown but clear. Flavor is malty overall with minor caramel tones. Smooth. Nice level character. Nothing outlandish or ridiculous. Feel is smooth and well bodied on the liquid. Another easy drinker from this brewpub. A pleasure to drink.

Had on tap at JJ Bitting. Great dark red/black color with a fantastic cream colored head that stuck around literlly as long as there was beer in the glass and stuck to every inch of the glass. Smell was sweet and malty with notes of toffee and coffee, also some chocolate. Taste was very malty and mellow, notes of dark breads and toffee. Aftertaste was super smooth and sweet but not overpowering, like a good vanilla coffee. Fantastic beer.

Pours black with slight ruby highlights and a thin, everlasting head.
Smell of roasted grain, toffee, chocolate. The taste is similar to the cask (see my other rating) - but flavors and slight smokiness more pronounced - not as sweet. Chocolate with hints of licorice still come through. More flavorful. This is a really nice porter. It's good on cask, but better on-tap, IMO.

On cask at the brewery... the coal porter presented the "real ale" way.
A- Cola brown with reddish edges, small head that laces moderately. Opaque.
S- Huge coffee aromas and roasted malt notes.
T- Mouth filling, yet light bodied... pleasantly bitter black coffee and chicory notes, with a smooth exit. Bold and long lasting aftertaste.
M/D- On cask this is very soft and smooth, with very little carbonation. Thin but very well presented in the mouth, and very drinkable. Nice, bitter porter.

Deep, dark brown in color with a tight, creamy beige head. Wonderful lacing left behind on the sides of the glass as you drink the beer. Roasted aroma with some notes of toffee and caramel. A roasted malt flavor dominates, but is not too harsh. Hints of chocolate, coffee, toasted bread and toffee are also present. Hops are present to balance and are not overly noticable. Rich and creamy, this brew is medium-full in body. Easy to drink and it went great with BBQ pork. Would have had liked to try it with dessert. Another tasty beer from Bittings!

Served as part of a sampler tray at their restaurant. This one was clear, deep and dark. Mahogany brown in color with a creamy head of foam. The aroma has some roasted notes and a nice soft sweetness with toffee and caramel prominent. The taste is rich, roasty and creamy smooth. I really like the roastiness in this one, Its like toasted whole grain bread. Well balanced and flavorful with a touch of bitterness in the finish. Nothing harsh or astringent. An excellent porter.

A very nice cask porter. Dark brown in appearance with subtle tones of dark purple. A slight hint of licorice. A light body supports the beers regal head; frothy and creamy till the end. An overall low-hop profile and gentle molasses, roasty, flavor. Served at cellar temperature.
