a - Golden-amber, no head on the pint pour. Somewhat Hazy but looked good enough.
s - Grassy but otherwise mild. They claim 28 IBU's, I smelled little hops and there is not much malt character coming through.
t - Musty. I don't know how to describe it but maybe it was oxidization? It tasted old. Otherwise it was ok, mild malt body little hops...crowd pleaser.
m/d - Felt fine, not sticky or anything. Sessionable but really not extraordinary or something I'd want to bring a Growler of home.

Pours a clear brown amber. Flavor is smooth. Nice slightly fruity and leafy amber tone. I'm not feeling the complexity, but the overall hit of flavor is good. Smooth feel. Easy drinker. Something to order and go on all night without thinking about it.

On tap at the JJ Bitting Brew Pub.
Poured a medium to deeper amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of light toasted malts, light caramel with some orange peel in the finish. Oranges in the aroma as well.

This was on-tap at J.J. Bitting on 6/28/2008. I believe this is one of their year round brews at the brewpub. It was served to me in a standard pint glass.
This Amber beer poured a yellowish copper color with a thin and small head of white foam. This small head of foam was probably caused by the pour from the tap. Whatever the size the head of foam was, it had decent retention that left behind foamy white rings along the edge and spots of white lace around the glass.
The aroma was toasted, but faint with toasted malts and bitter floral hops. Standard beer aroma, malts and hops.
The taste was light, crispy, and toasted with lightly toasted malts, a hint of juicy fruits, a slight touch of yeast, and bitter floral hops. Like that aroma, standard beer taste.
The mouthfeel was light and had a faint aftertaste of toasted malts, a hint of juicy fruits, and some bitter floral hops.
In the end, it's really nothing more than an average crispy brewpub beer. If you're looking for something that's more than just an average beer, you better order something else. This isn't it.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub.
Served as a deep reddish-amber berr with moderate ahite head.
Smell is light and caramelly.
Caramel is also evident in the taste, with a nice malty sweetness.
Finishes with more malty sweetness, but a light balancing hop presence is also detectable.
Not a great beer, but I enjoyed it.

J.J. Bitting- Avenel Amber
Appearance- Nice hazelnut brown with a thick frothy head.
Smell- Caramel malt with earthy/ dirty hop notes.
Taste- Skunky sugary caramel with a musty hop flavor.
Mouthfeel- Bland.
Overall- The worst of the lot I had at J.J Bitting's.

The color was light amber. It had a thin white head that left some lacing.
The smell was of caramel. A very slight hint of hops was detectable.
The taste was of caramel malt - but, not overpowering. It thinned a bit as the drink progressed. The hops balanced it a bit, but did not stand out on there own. Considering the description on the card at Bittings, I expected to pick up on the hops more. Light to medium bodied, it was fairly well-balanced, though a slight bit on the malty side.
It began thicker than it ended, with a watery thinness becoming more noticeable towards the finish. The caramel taste stuck around for a bit.
Overall, not bad at all, but not one of their best. Although it fit the style pretty well, it had characteristics of a dark English mild ale.
It went pretty well with the roast beef I was eating. Not a bad choice for a session beer if you visit.

A - Pours out a red tinted orange color. A little lighter and more transparent then I expected. A small head was present but not nearly as much as any of the other Bitting brews I;ve tried. Not a bad look overall.
S - Faint caramel aroma but other than that nothing much.
T - Really less flavorful than I expected, especially from a brewery that makes some great beers. No real hops presence, some sweet malt taste.
M - Fairly light and thin, not bad but not great.
D - Doesn't score too many points in the drinkability department as it's not a very interesting beer. Still above average drinkability in the sense that many consider it a good session beer from Bitting and it is approachable.

Orange / golden in color with a 1" head. Light lacing develops. The aroma is barely there, as a whiff of caramel is detectable. The flavor is of caramel, mild bitterness, and sweet apple. This brew is slightly sweeter than most other ambers.
The mouthfeel is smooth at the start. The finish is smooth and relatively clean. The drinkability is down a notch as this brew is slight dull and sweeter than expected, but others may see this brew as a session beer.

Served as part of a sampler tray at their restaurant. Poured a bright and clear amber color with a beautiful creamy head of white foam. The aroma is slightly sweet with caramel malt. The taste is very smooth and slightly lemony. Light to medium malted body, that finishes with a tinge of sweetness. A very smooth and fine amber ale. Low in bitter harshness and high in drinkability.

Medium brown colored, with an off-white head. Smells of carmel sweetness and roasted malts. Maybe a little too sweet for my taste. A little slick going down, and leaves sticky rings around the glass. not a lot of hops, but it is well balanced. Another good session beer from J.J. Bitting.

Very nice session brew. Amber colored with some head and lacing. Aroma of grains with a hint of floral hops. Light bodied and smooth going down. Flavors of carmel and toasted malt with a nice hop balance towards the end. Very easy to drink, goes great with food. A real nice beer, not too complex but still tasty.

J.J.'s spin on the American classic. Medium bodied All-American ingredients; Oregon hops. Caramel flavor. Nice wash in the mouth, smooth for this type. My friends really enjoy this one.
