Served in a 4oz tasting glass at Black Lotus on 14mi & Main on a busy Saturday night.
Smell was light & floral with a bit of citrus.
Taste went from subtle grass to bitter grapefruit in the finish. The more I drank it the more I liked it as it warmed. Mouthfeel wasn't the greatest as it could probably use a bit more carbonation or malt backbone, but I thoroughly enjoyed it with dinner.
Definitely stood out from the rest of the set of samples.

served in a pint glass. from notes.
a - copper in color with a finger of foamy, tan head. retention is excellent and leaves quite a bit of lacing.
s - dank pine resin and grapefruit.
t - strong carmel malt backbone with notes of grapefruit and a strong pine resin finish. well balanced but lacking complexity.
m - medium with adequate co2.
o - easily drinkable and enjoyable. worth trying if you head up to the brewery as it is one of the better black lotus beers.

Reviewed on 6/23/2010. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear orange with a thick white head. Aroma of citrus, hop oils, and caramel malt. Flavor of citrus and floral hops -- this had a very nice hop character and was plenty hopped for an APA (that's what it was labeled at the brewpub, although it certainly tasted more like an IPA). A solid hoppy pale ale and probably their best offering.

Draft at 2007 Michigan BGWF.
Poured clear copper color with a medium frothy white head that lasted with good lacing.
Heavy grapefruit hoppy aroma.
Medium body with tingly texture.
Medium bitter citrus flavor with a moderate bitter finish of moderate duration.
Good brew.

Had this on-tap at Black Lotus last night.
Beer poured a deep opaque amber-brown color. There was a small off-white head that didn't last real long. Lacing was strong.
It isn't very often that I am impressed more with the aroma of a beer than it's flavor. This is one of those cases. This beer had a nice scent with strong citrus notes. Some bannana was also noticeable.
As far as flavor goes this was a pretty run-of-the-mill pale ale. Bitter hops were prevelant and left a lingering aftertaste. I didn't notice any malt flavor to speak of. After swallowing the beer there was a bit of carbonation induced tingling on my tongue.
Mouthfeel is really what ruins this beer for me. Compared to most APAs or IPAs I've had this one felt light and watery; it left a lot to be desired.
This beer also went down very easily, possibly due to the light mouthfeel. This gives it a high drinkability factor.
Overall not a bad beer but nothing to go out of your way to try.
