Bottle from John's Grocery in Iowa City, IA
"22:15 K18A10" on bottle. Thanks, that's helpful.
Poured into a standard US pint glass

An overall pleasing, tart, acidic saison produced by Urthel. The recipe blends good lemon flavor, acidity, with hop tartness and balanced malt sweetness for a unique saison with multiple layers of depth.

Pours a huge head of large bubbles, slightly yellowed-white in color, that coalesce at the top to produce a meringue-like effect. Decreases over a few minutes to leave substantial lacing along sides of glass and a modest cap atop the beer. Body is light golden yellow meets orange in color, transparent (unless you pour in the yeast, after which it is a cloudy pale yellow-orange-brown), and with very active carbonation.

Aroma is dominated by sourdough bread before being baked, pale malt sweetness, floral hop aspects, and a bit of apple cider combined.

Taste opens with unexpectedly sharp tartness of citric and also light stomach acid. Tongue gets used to the sharpness and this allows for pleasant lemon juice or lemongrass sweetened with malt sugars. Neither are over-extreme or cloying, lending a refined taste to this. Lingering aftertaste of bitterness, light acidity and sourdough bread, which I find enjoyable, but others may not.

Body is light to medium-light with busy carbonation that foams this up quite well across the palate. This leads to a smooth, creamy mouthfeel that goes well to counterbalance the tempered, acidic flavors of the beer. Finish is dry and pleasing.

Pours a cloudy golden blonde, thick-looking. Head is not thick and fades fast. Unfiltered look for sure and I like that.
Smells of ample yeast and malts with nice hints of cloves, sweeter spice.
Nice taste follows with the breast yeast, cloves and citrus (lemon). I wish the spicy aspect was better balanced out with other elements. After a while i notice hints of banana esters in the taste. Nothing to stand it apart from other nicer saisons I've tried, in fact there is a soapy aspect that leads to the spice/ bitterness. Still quite drinkable here. This brew has a bitter dry finish.
Well-carbonated, nice happy-medium mouthfeel.
I'd have this again even though it struck me more like a white-styled beer would in terms of dryness. Despite not being as complex of a saison as I hoped, this was still refreshing. Im sure this would have tasted even better on a hot summer day with certain foods to pair.

Exp, Sept 2013

A: Cloudy light peachy honey with nearly no head, no carbonation.
S: Tripel and hefeweizen like, yeasty but like unsweet apricot/peach.
T: Half of it is a cross between a tripel and a hefeweizen, but also quite grassy and tart. a bit of spicy christmasness as it warms up.
M: a hair of sparkle, lightish medium body. not dry.
O: decent, better when its warmer. like a grassy tripel.

The beer pours out a darker shade of hay yellow with an ecru head that is well maintained by the ample carbonation. The smell is wonderfully heady with scent of fresh cut grass, lemon, strawberry and yeasty earthiness. It is very fresh and intriguing scent.

The beer's flavor is more intense than expected. It builds from a simple and light bread like malt flavor and gives way to a fruity yeast presence. The flavor finally finishes with a mix of very fresh flavor of grass and grapefruit combined with a barnyard musty flavor that is completely enjoyable. The mouthfeel is very light, clean and fresh. I was very surprised at how enjoyable this beer is and find it undervalued.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, K18A10 bottle code. Pours lightly cloudy golden orange color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, grape, coriander, floral, grass, honey, pepper, and earthy yeast spices. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/peppery notes. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, coriander, bread, honey, pepper, floral, grass, clove, and earthy yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of citrus, light fruits, coriander, bread, honey, floral, pepper, and earthy yeast spices on the finish for a good bit. Great balance and complexity of fruity/peppery flavors; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent saison! Great complexity and balance of flavors; and extremely smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a light golden amber with a massive fine white head with good retention and pillowy lacing. Nice aroma of wheat, Belgian yeast, clove and light lemon. Flavor is sweet bready malt, Belgian yeast, light fruit, cloves, and just a bare hint of wild yeast. Mildly bitter light fruit finish. Light to medium bodied with nice carbonation. I hadn't thought about how much I'd like a melding of saison style with a Belgian pale, but this is how this tastes and I'm really happy. Sweeter and maltier than many saisons, but very nicely done. This will be a regular for me.

Chill hazed lemon yellow colored beer with a puffy white head.

Smell is slightly sweet with a lot of yeasty aroma. Lemon hops and pepper scents with some coriander. Some grass aromas and a light honeysuckle malt scent.

Starts out mildly sweet and very yeasty with a lemon and grass flavor. Good amount of bitterness. Fairly herbal hop flavor. Pretty competent Saison.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall a pretty good Saison. Not going to make me give up Hennepin but I could drink this when I can't find my favorite.

A - This tangerine hued brew is cloudy with yeasty protein and topped with a beautifully bubbled fluffy one-inch head. Soft lace slides down the glass, and the head retention is excellent.

S - Gentle summer fruits, a hint of lemon-y wheat twang, and that rural-smelling belgian yeast note that I love.

T - Lemonheads candy, sweet caramel underneath. Nice yeast notes too.

M - Soft and finely bubbled. Very gentle and smooth at fist, then lingeringly sweet with a hint of lemon acidity. Nice looong, but gentle aftertaste.

This is a really nice summery brew. Soft, gentle, and smooth. Light in body, but still really interestingly yeasty and somewhat complex. Good stuff! Probably not as good as (IMO) the paradigm of the style.... Saison DuPont, but still a really well made beer.
