This is a dark and fruity treat. It pours deep brown with tons of foam that quickly dissolves into a sticky, creamy surface. Deep layers of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, sweet malts, and dark fruits like prunes, figs and plums, suck you in. The aroma is just so ripe. I love it.
An alcoholic sweetness and a burst of fruits and raisins make this almost a mix between a bock and a belgian strong ale. It has a medium body, is very smooth & creamy, and its high carbonation make it quite effervescent. Total bummer that they stopped brewing this last year.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottle code K17A7. Pours very cloudy dark reddish brown color with a very nice 2-3 finger dense khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass, with a fair amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of raisin, prune, toast, biscuit, caramel, molasses, nuttiness, and earth. Pretty nice aromas with good balance and weak strength. Taste of big caramel, toast, biscuit, raisin, nuttiness, toffee, molasses, prune, herbal, and earth. Lingering notes of raisin, caramel, biscuit, toast, nuttiness, molasses, and herbal on the finish for a good. Fantastic balance of flavors with nice complexity and robustness. No cloying flavors at all after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong dark ale! Great robust and balance flavors; and very smooth to sip on. Really enjoyed this.

Dark amber, chocolate color and hazy. Unrelenting ivory colored head. Limited lacing.
Roasted, nutty aroma.
Deep, rich caramel malt flavor. Roasted almonds, toffee, rich chocolate and dates. Hint of hickory smoke. Subtle hop. Just a touch of alcohol. Complex and well blended.
Smooth in the beginning and somewhat coarse in the middle and finish. Medium to full bodied and highly carbonated.
Good brew. Pretty complex for a bock and true to the style.

2 out of 3 bottles gushed. Lost about 50ml each time. Poured an opaque medium, walnut brown with a short lasting off-white head.
Odor was weak. Yeasty bread and licorice after deep inhalation.
Tasted very good. Malty and sweet, with a rather heady alcohol note. No perceptible hop taste.
Seemed inadequately carbonated, but that may have a result of the gushing. Rather heavy mouthfeel. Sticky on the lips.

Fills an Urthel tulip glass with a muddy brown beer that builds a creamy beige head. The head turns to sea foam while leaving abundant silky lace concentrated in rings.
Initially reminds one of Kahlua, then transitions to nuts with molasses, vanilla, plums and raisins in the background.
While the flavor is quite enjoyable I would never consider this to be a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Vlaemse opens malty and sweet with plums and raisins and a hint of coconut. Lighter fruits dwell in the background. The finish is lingering with a light sweetness.
Well-tamed alcohol for this medium to full bodied beer with a velvety texture and high carbonation.
Easy drinking and very enjoyable. Sit back and enjoy this while conversing or with casual entertaining.

a - poured a dirty well water brown that had a bit of head, yet quickly disappeared leaving behind a "flat beer" look.. we shall see
s - smells of alcohol, which is funny since its only 7.5%...but it truly does.... some caramel and brown sugar, maybe a bit of dark fruit - but light...
t - strangely reminds me of a wine or cognac as it finishes... odd... there are subtle notes of dark fruits, caramel, warming alcohol, roastedness..
m - a lighter medium bodied beer that disappears down the throat without much notie...
0 - not sure what I expected...glad I tried it, not sure if I'd search it out again...although, I see its retired...could be too, that this one is a bit old as I'm sure i've had it for at least a year, probably longer [closer to 2?]

A: Pours a dark brown with a thin, quickly receding beige mousse. Chunks of yeast quickly accumulate at the bottom of the glass.
S: Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, and roasted grain are present on the nose. The smell combines the roasty, toasty aspects of a stout or porter with the sweet, fruity aspects of a typical Belgian strong dark ale. It's an interesting effect to say the least.
T: Complex notes of raisins, prunes, figs, cocoa, and roasted grain gently wash across the palate. This beer finishes in a manner that is simultaneously sweet and toasty with dried fruit and roasted grain accents.
M: Full bodied, silky, and smooth with highly expressive carbonation. Deceptively drinkable for the style.
O: This is a rock solid Belgian strong dark ale that presents an interesting twist on the style. The stout-like accents are reminiscent of such beers as Buffalo Belgian Stout (Brouwerij Van den Bossche), Equinox (Brasserie de la Senne), and Noir de Dottignies (Brouwerij de Ranke), though they are a little more restrained in this ale. This is another one of De Leyerth's beers that I would like to see back in production.

Appearance is a nice dark brown pour with a thick, frothy off-white head which leaves gentle lacing.
Smell has a little bit of Belgian funk and dark fruits. Maybe some caramel or sweet malts.
Love the way this beer tastes, one of my favorites. Herbal spices, dark fruits, cherries, roasty malt all combine into a smooth and surprisingly delicious mouthful. Alcohol is well hidden in the beverage and it does not come across as boozy or overly sweet. Really impressive marriage of flavors - I can't find fault with how this tastes.
Mouthfeel was crisp and pleasant. Could use a little more carbonation in my opinion.
I'm not a huge fan of dark ales generally but this one is really something special in how it playfully combines dark fruits, malts, herbs and spices into something deliciously and surprisingly easy to drink. Don't be turned off by the appearance or slightly funky smell - Urthel's Flamy Dark Ale is tasty.

poured from bottle into a bordeaux glass. Pours a medium brown color with a 1" head
a bit muted on the aromas with caramel, cherries, some malt tones and a bit of funk
very smooth and polished medium feel. There is a richness to the feel, but you don't feel the alcohol at all. Excellent depth and flavors of caramel, malts, and some warm toffee as well
A real good beer. Has a good malty side that is really enjoyable with a really good feel and flavors

Pours a very cloudy chestnut body with a generous tan head that quickly dissipates to fade into the dancing bubbles of carbonation leaving only faint traces of lacing behind.
Robust aromas of dark fruit float from the glass as well as tart berries, and yet sweet nuts as well. Some of the yeast comes forward as the beer warms and the previous aromas fade.
The flavor consists of sweet, dark fruit, herbal spices; perhaps woody notes, and is it warms it turns sweeter versus woody, focusing more on the raisin or plum notes.
Mouthfeel is on the thicker side with generous carbonation and a sweet and thick finish that leaves the palate coated quite nicely.
A very nice Belgian Brew, with characteristics of both a dubbel and a Strong Dark although I would lean Strong Dark. Tons of character greets the senses and it only gets better as it warms.
