Live review. Poured by me into a clean, clear glass from the growler that I had filled September 8th, 2012 at the brewpub. Cost I am not sure of but I am going to guess $11.99.

A Satisfying "psst" released from the growler when i loosened the rather tight cap. Hazy yellow translucent body under a one inch creamy off white head that dissipated down to a single layer of bubbles within 2 minutes. Good look for the style. 4.0

S Nice solid witbier smell with significant pepper scent as well. Interesting. 4.0

T Directly from the smell....a nice solid witbier taste with the interesting inclusion of a peppery taste. There is some sweetness in the middle of the taste lingering about but mostly it is a nice, gentle wheat grain goodness with the pepper. 4.0

M Rather average feel to a Witbier with a slight bight of wheat grains enhanced by the sassy pepper taste gives the feel of this beer an edge. Really interesting feel. It is the opposite of "flat" or "boring" feel. 4.5

D/O Drinkability is quite good. Overall this is a fine example of the style. 4.0

Notes: The growler version loses nothing to the bottle and on tap versions of the beer and that is satisfying given that I bought this growler nearly two months ago.

I picked this up right outside of Pittsburg this morning on my way back to DC.

Served in a Schlafly tulip.

A: Poured a saturatedly dark cloudy orange color, with only a whispy 1/2 finger head that died down much quicker than I expected.

S: Spicy, but not too potent, with white and black pepper leading the way along with a slight nudge of coriander and all-spice.

T: Lots of black peppercorns in this for sure. Seriously, if you're not a pepper fan, this might not be your thing. I really liked the flavors here. Along with the pepper, I got some coriander, but overall this was kinda one-dimensional with the whole pepper thing.

M: While I like the slight burn on the tongue from the heat, I thought this could have used a bit more spritz. The lacing was non-existent.

O: The fact that the flavor was my favorite part about this brew is a very good thing. I'd have it again.

Mild gusher after a loud POP from the cap. Hazy and golden, pours way too much head. Thin bubbles recent quickly, however. Spicy aroma with plenty of orange peel and yeast.

Strong wheat base imparts sweetness, lots of spice and orange to back things up. Excessive carbonation distracts me from the beverage in hand. Way, way too much. An ok beer, not something I'd seek out though.

Lovely hazy orange amber color with very nice lacing. Spicy and starts to get hot. The pepper is not understated. Smells like peppercorns and moldy bread. I say the mystery spice is ginger. Or else pepper plus juniper berry equals a ginger taste. Some sediment that will get into the last pour.

Malt is rather rich and overall this is sweeter than most Wits. I'd be inclined to call it a spiced ale. Appley, fruity taste along with the residual heat. A very interesting beer, yeasty and rich like a cousin of Hefeweizen. Spices are distinct but not overdone. A little hot in the aftertaste.

From the 12 oz bottle bought at Food and Friends in Philadelphia.

The beer pours a watery looking golden yellow with no head. The nose is a slightly herbal sweetness that reminds me of cellardoor to an extent, but nothing reminiscent of fresh cut pepper. The taste is slightly peppery, but also very sweet and yeasty. The mouthfeel is weak and the peppercorn needs a lot of time warming before it starts to hit the palate. I'm certainly not sneezing and this beer is a bit of a let down overall.

12 oz bottle into tulip. no bottled on date.

A: an orangey yellow hued brew. hazy. head is bubbly and white. retention isnt great nor is the lacing.

S: crystalized ginger is strong. coriander. orange peel. a lot of different, intense spice aromas makes for a very inviting nose on this wit.

T: i say freshly cracked black pepper a lot, but this is the real deal. crystalized ginger. star anise. enough malt to provide a canvas, but certainly not enough of a player over these spice flavors. finish is straight black pepper but then turns relatively clean and dry.

M: average carbonation on a medium body.

D: i appreciate the additions of peppercorns, coriander, juniper berries, and sweet orange peel as they add welcomed complexities to the nose and palate. definitely on the bigger side of wits, this one is worth a shot.

Pours a hazy honey gold with shades of orange. Neat single finger of white head. Beading is slow and steady.

The spices dominate the nose - it's hard to pin down just one, quite a blend. Heavy coriander, vanilla, citrus peel, gingerbread... smells like there's something in the oven.

The taste takes a similar direction. I don't think I've ever had a beer so heavily spiced. It doesn't attempt to disguise anything beneath, it just seems to take the lead role.

Overall, this is a very interesting one. I could even see my girlfriend diggin' this one. Good stuff.

Thanks to ericdixon for throwing in this extra.

Pours a slightly opaque, dark gold, with 1 finger of white head that recedes to a thin cap. Strong belgian yeast smell up front, lots of cloves, then a hit of peppercorns, a really complex fresh peppercorn smell, not like ground dried peppercorns, fresh pink, green, white, black peppercorns all around. Behind the spice is a touch of pine (not sure if this is hops or the juniper that the bottle reports). The taste is also very spicy but in a slightly different way, the belgian clove yeast gives way to coriander on the palate, but the peppercorns are still there with spicy, tingly mouthfeel. This is full bodied for a wit and is extremely drinkable. Each sip cleanses the palate and gets me ready for another one. Overall this is a really good wit, the flavors are not going to blow your mind but they are interesting, definitely worth trying if you like the style.

A- light orange peel color that is unfiltered. Minimal head and no lacing.

S- strong aroma of orange and coriander. alcohol and juniper berries round out the smell. Very nicely done. I also get hints of pepper that make this smell really aromatic.

T- corainder and peppercorn come out to dominate the tongue. Very heavy on the alcohol/grain as well.

M- medium bodied beer that lets you know there is some ABV there. The peppery lingers around.

O- very nice brew and i would love a case of this for the summer.

A: Pours a translucent honey color with about a half finger of pure white head. The foam settles incredibly fast, but leaves a nice frothy ring along the edges of the glass. There is a little lacing as it drinks.

S: I’m picking up huge pepper, some orange, roses, and clove. The pre-dominate scent is pepper. There is no doubt about it. It’s actually a bit overpowering.

T: The initial hit is mild citrus and a bit of malty sweetness. But right after, the peppercorns come on strong. Really strong! The spice is incredibly noticeable, but the nice thing is that it’s not a lasting spice. It sits well on the palate and moves off with the other flavors. If you’re not a fan of peppercorns in beer, this isn’t a beer for you. Luckily I love these types of beers.

M: Light bodied beer. The carbonation is just right and the flavors are solid. There is nothing too exciting or terrible about it.

O: If you’re not ready for a peppercorn explosion… stay away from this beer. It reminds me of CBC’s Sgt. Pepper, but on steroids. Good thing I love peppercorn beers. I thought this beer was really solid. But it’s definitely a love it or hate it type of brew. I’m somewhere in the middle but leaning towards the good side.

Pours a murky light straw/gold. Medium sized persistent head. Smell is wheat. Cloves and bananas. Taste is spicy and wheaty again- cloves, bananas. Tangy and zesty with a clean finish. Quite tasty overall. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, highly carbonated- slightly effervescent in fact. Very very drinkable. This is a pretty solid American version of a witbier. True to style and stronger and a little over the top. Cool. One note- this review was very out of season- Christmas Eve actually! I would love to have a few pints of this on tap in the middle of summer- it would be great. Awesome name for this beer too by the way.

This is my favorite beer, I think it is so good.

Appearance - The label on the bottle, along with all Voodoo labels, are very unique looking and inventive. The beer itself pours a typical Wheat Ale color with a 2 finder head and good retention. I see lots of carbination bubbles floating up.

Smell - I can really smell the flavors that are at work here, very fruity smell that is fully developed.

Taste - I can taste all of the flavor from the berries and orange peel, then there is an aftertaste of peppercorns which to me is completely unique, and very very good

Mouthfeel - Like all other Voodoo beers I have had, they have a very light mouthfeel and very easy to drink.

Overall - Like I said at the start, this is my favorite beer, I enjoy the fully developed taste from the Juniper Berries and Orange Peel with that peppercorn kick. The taste is very unique to me. I will buy again, and buy for friends (especially ones out of their distributions range) when needed.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a bright orange color and a cloudy consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Not much lacing.

S: A very fruity, sweet aroma of oranges, lemons, spices and malt.

T: Tasted of malt, coriander, oranges, lemon, and a touch of hops. There is something slightly different about the flavor of this witbier. It's generally pretty tasty, but also somewhat acidic as well.

M: A highly carbonated beer with a silky smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is one of the more interesting American versions of a witbier I've tried. Well worth checking out.

A: Pours a very hazy pale orange color with a nice fluffy almost pure white head.

S: It lists Coriander, Orange peel, Juniper berries and peppercorns on the label. The orange peel and Peppercorns jump out at you. The coriander is there and the berries are ever so slightly in the background. If they weren't listed i might have over looked them all together.

T: The Peppercorns and coriander come to forefront of the flavor profile. The orange is there in the background and the berries seem to fade away. Real good flavor profile.

M: Take about a soft beer. This thing surrounds the tongue like a soft blanket that guides the beer down the throat.

Overall: Probably the best Wheat/white ale i've ever had. Voodoo has peaked my interest for a while now. I've been meaning to try more of their offerings and this was one of 3 that i grabbed today. I'm glad i did.

One good beer from Voodoo...

Smells great. Nice aromas of orange and coriander. Also nice nice background floral notes too. Typical aromas from the Belgian yeast they use as well.

Tastes even better. Typical witbier flavors of the orange and coriander. But Voodoo packs this beer with a bunch of pepper which gives it a nice zip to it. Background flavors of spice and yeast too. Nice crisp carbonation. Also a nice little bitter bite that helps to cut the sweetness a little. Finishes with a little lemon after taste.

Great beer. This one goes down quite easy. Watch the 6.75% ABV though. It can sneak up on you.

Bottle courtesy of one of my PA brothers. Which one I simply can't recall. Poured into a tulip.

A: Slightly hazed golden orange hue, Solid two fingers of bright white head. Good retention. Sticky lace.

S: The Belgian influence is pronounced in the nose. Plenty of spicy yeast, coriander, orange rind, black pepper, wheat. Smells like an amped up wit to me. My burps are loaded with black pepper. Yum.

T: Flavors are similar to the nose. spicy Belgian yeast, coriander, oranges, pepper. Clean and crisp.

M: Light body with a biting carbonation.

O: Very nice summer quaffer. I would have no problem crushing a sixer of this stuff on a summer day.

Pours a hazy copper orange into the glass with a frothy white head that disappeared quickly. Wow, the peppercorn spice smell in this was much more dominant than any other wheat beer I've had. Some orange peel and coriander is there as well, but peppercorn is upfront. Taste is the same, with white peppercorn being front and center. I liked though how the coriander and citrus played off the peppercorn, those flavors that you typically expect to find in a wheat beer are there, just in a different fashion. Nicely carbonated this was a great beer to have sitting by the pool in 95 degree summer heat. I found this to be a very refreshing beer, but make sure you like peppercorn spice in your beer, or you will be disappointed.

This beer was one of the first I ever had at the Tap & Table before it closed. I ordered this because I enjoyed several other Voodoo brews and hadn't had this one yet. The beer poured out as a cloudy looking yellow color with a fluffy white head on top. The lacing was pretty good. The smell of the beer was spicy and full of grainy zest. The taste of the beer was smooth with the wheat and had some undertones of spice on the tongue. The mouthfeel was light and refreshing. Overall I found this to be a pretty good Witbier that is decently priced.

I had this beer from a 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

The beer has a nice hazy orange color to it with an okay white head that didn't last long and had no lacing. Also caught the bottom of my bottle and had some sediment floating around. The smell is a nice sweet orange citrusy smell with a mild spiciness smell on the back end. The taste is very good with a strong orange, citrus flavor that follows with a powerful lingering spicey flavor, very nice. The mouthfeel has a mild bitterness from the citrus and spices but fades away fairly quickly. Overall, a great witbier that is perfect for the summer (and my wife).

Poured into a pint glass.

3.5 A: Lightly hazed golden yellow color. Three fingers of frothy white head with excellent retention and a good amount of lacing. Some of the spices are found throughout the beer and also on the bottom.

4.5 S: The nose is really nice. The pepper is ever-powerful and really sets this beer out from others of the style. Next is a nearly as powerful corriander. Juniper and orange peel complements underneath it all. Neutral wheatiness throughout. Very nice.

4.0 T: Taste is nearly as good. Lots of pepper and corriander again give a big bold taste, but manages to not be overdone. Juniper comes to the main show while the orange peel again plays a complementary role in the shadows. Neutral wheat. I love the huge spiciness. Pepper lingers on the tongue.

4.0 M: Medium body. Perhaps a touch too much spritzy carbonation. Reasonably creamy and smooth.

4.5 D: This is a very tasty, very spicy version of the style. Really a great beer for a summer afternoon. I suspect I'll be drinking more of this in the future.

thanks again to PittRooney for supplying me with almost the whole voodoo line up!

12oz bottle pulled out of my fridge poured into a bulb style glass. listed as 7%. no freshness date.

pours out a very hazy golden color with a huge fluffy, billowy pure white head. left a nice big foamy cap. great rocky head retention and very nice thick sticky lace.

the thing i detect first is some really authentic citrusy orange peel and peppercorn. smells like i have both right in my hand. aside from that there is some other spices, corriander?, the fruity belgian yeast and maybe a hint of some of the wheat.

again, citrusy orange peel and peppercorn is there, but not as spot on as in the aroma. lots of clove and pepper on the finish, almost a touch spicy on the palate and in the aftertaste. some wheat and fruity belgian yeast as well.

light, creamy, and super crisp on the palate. hard to believe this is 7%, because it drinks like a 4-5% witbier. a high amount of bitey carbonation, which could really hit the spot on those hot days. the peppercorns play a nice spicy role on the great mouthfeel as well.

overall: a very solid and interesting witbier. lots of flavor and so decievingly light. this is definatly worth a try. another great offering from voodoo.

Taste:
Black pepper clashes against candied malts, coriander, and orange peals. The flavor isn't particularly strong, but it sure is gustatorily cacophonous.

Mouthfeel:
Crisp and clean. Nothing special.

Harmony:
There is a lack of harmony, and also not a great amount of flavor. The pepper is an interesting touch but is overused in proportion to the other flavors.

Would I get it again?:
No

Picked up this bottle last weekend when I was in the Philly area. I've only had a few brews from Voodoo.

A - Cloudy light orange, huge bright white fluffy heady, minimal carb streams, little to no lacing

S - Brilliant creamy and spicy citrus aroma

T - Decent peppery spice up front, creamy citrus and mildly bitter middle. Finishes tart like orange juice.

M - Feel nicely medium in body.

O - I really enjoyed this beer a lot. It's got the typical witbier flavor profile but with some very defined citrus and pepper notes. I appreciate intensity in flavor and this one is far from subtle.

a - Pours a murky yellow- pale golden color with light carbonation evident and one inch of white head.

m - Medium body and high carbonation.

d - Overall I wasn't a big fan of this one. Too much pepper and spice for me. Wouldn't seek out again.

Consumed at a recent tasting. Served in a SAVOR snifter.

Pours a hazy light golden color with a good white head, nice retention, and a good amount of lacing. The nose is quite pungent, with an absolute overload of coriander coming through along with too much pepper. The orange isn't noticeable. The flavor is not good. The pepper and coriander completely dominate my taste buds and not in a good way. It leaves the palate extremely dry. Very harsh. Not much to say other than spice bomb. None of the underlying beer comes through. I would not have this again.
