Another very yellow offering here, thin 1/3" white head. Plenty of tropical fruit notes in the aroma.
Its another mega hopped dry pale malt ipa from Pizza Port. That sounds condescending, but its a compliment. They do what they do. Would be more than happy if this found a way into their canning line. One of the more tropical fruit forward beers in their portfolio. Big and brash.

Slightly hazed golden orange and amber with a small off-white head. This leaves regular lacing down the glass.
Some citrus and pine hop elements in the aroma, along with bread and grain. Pleasant.
The flavor is a well-integrated, balanced combination of citrus and piney hop flavors, cracker and biscuit malt, and some distinct sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden.
Medium bodied, crisp finish, and moderate to high carbonation.
A fine enough IPA, though disappointing only because Pizza Port's best IPAs are so good.

The flavor is a well-integrated, balanced combination of citrus and piney hop flavors, cracker and biscuit malt, and some distinct sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden.
Medium bodied, crisp finish, and moderate to high carbonation.
A fine enough IPA, though disappointing only because Pizza Port's best IPAs are so good.

Had on tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad – 05/03/12
A: Que Onda pours a slightly hazed golden amber color with a lighter touch of glowing yellow around the edges. Perfectly capped with a finger thick of creamy white head. Nice retention that leaves some dotted specks of lace as I make my way down the pint.
S: Aroma is another grapefruit bomb from the Port and more in the form of fruity citrus flesh. Has a more pronounced caramel malt note than most other Port IPA’s I would say. Some light undertones of floral and pine.
T: Taste provides a nice combo of citrus fruits and grassy florals. I get some real nice fresh orange zest notes. Has a much smoother level of bitterness to it. Light tingle but no real astringency or biting hop punch. Profuse sweetened caramel vanilla malt presence. Finishes with a bit of an alcohol kick. Nice but not quite as hoppy compared to the multitude of other great Port IPA’s. A bit maltier than I last recall.
M: Body is medium leveled with a seemingly lower amount of carbonation. Sticky sleek coating. Finish is a touch wetter and lacking a bit of that crispness to it.
D: Overall this is a solid citrusy IPA with a nice caramel malt backing but not quite up to par as their other offerings. For some reason I remember the Que Onda being much hoppier. Could just be some slight batch variation. Would still recommend.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Grabbed a pitcher.
Pours a metallic shiny light amber. Decent head and nice lacing.
Citrucy hops with a bit of pine. Not super strong aroma. But good.
Taste is pretty good. A bit of sweetness that keeps it between a west coast and east coast IPA. Nice hop bite in the finish. Citrus and pine. Tasty.
Mouthfeel is pretty good. A bit maltier than say Elder but not bad.
Overall a tasty beer. I would get it on tap next time I came.

2/27/11 On-tap Pizza Port Carlsbad, pint glass.
A: deep golden orange with 1/2 finger pearl white head. Good lacing down the side of the glass.
S: Very nice. Floral and piny with citrus notes. Very little malt in the nose, but fantastic hop aromas.
T: Tastes like a great west coast IPA. Very bitter with grapefruit and some muted malt sweetness. Finishes dry. No alcohol flavor and a great moderately citric and bitter aftertaste.
M: Thin to medium body and moderate to high carbonation. Good mouthfeel but a bit stinging at times.
D: Good. I would have definitely taken another.

S: Very nice. Floral and piny with citrus notes. Very little malt in the nose, but fantastic hop aromas.
T: Tastes like a great west coast IPA. Very bitter with grapefruit and some muted malt sweetness. Finishes dry. No alcohol flavor and a great moderately citric and bitter aftertaste.
M: Thin to medium body and moderate to high carbonation. Good mouthfeel but a bit stinging at times.
D: Good. I would have definitely taken another.

Hazy yellow colored pour with an off-white head and nice lacing. Malty and slightly hoppy on the aroma. Nice combination which works well. Big grapefruit bite on the initial sip and it follows with light malt on the swallow. Very smooth. Full bodied almost chewy. Very easy drink and a I look forward to finding this again. Good stuff.

Dry hopped with Bravo. On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Appears dark amber. Aroma is malt heavy with floral notes. Citrus is redolent of grapefruit, orange, and tangerine, and there's a dash of pine resin. The flavor is bitter grapefruit and pine, with lesser notes of tangerine. Malt is more restrained here than was suggested by the aroma. The cask mouthfeel is sticky but the body is somewhat thin. The beer finishes with citrus and an alcoholic punch. I think I'd like this a lot better on tap. Although I'm told this isn't that old, it seems months old. Just ok, not up to Port Carlsbad standards.

On tap at the 13th Bistro IPA festival. This was the first beer of the day.
A lot more yellow than the other ipas. Aroma and taste of this ipa was very tropical fruitish, mango and pineapple. My first thought was how similar this is to their Mongo IPA.
Trademark big hopping and bitterness is here. Just something cool about the influx of tropical citrus flavors going on over the standard grapefruit or tangerine we often get (not that those aren't some awesome flavors).
Another big winner for Port brewing. Let's hope for bottles down the road.

Draft at The Bistro. Golden colored, quite pale and clear, with a filmy white head. Big hop aroma, dank, weedy and floral, pineapple, candied grapefruit sweetness, pretty complex. Awesome hop flavors, tangerine and candied grapefruit, pineapple, fresh herbs, only a hint of pale malt. Dry on the palate with moderate bitterness, perfectly balanced with the hop flavors. Another awesome Pizza Port IPA, go figure.

A : Amber with finger tall head, nice lacing and lots of bubbles.
S : A very feint citrus hop, nothing else.
T : All hop with little to no malt, out of balance. Typical citrus, hints of pine.
M : Medium bodied and fairly carbonated, very dry finish.
D : Not a stand out IPA. Just not balanced enough for me to have a second.

S: Quite a bit of citrus to the nose along with a mixture of floral and piney hops. The malt (caramel in nature) is quite prominent on the nose, too.
T: A fairly decent bitterness to this one, mostly in the form of piney hops. The citrus is a bit sweeter and more orange/tangerine like than the usual grapefruit. The malt is more noticeable in almost any of the PP IPAs.
M: The body is medium with a moderate carbonation. Nothing out of the ordinary.
D: One of my least favorite PP IPAs, to be honest. Still good, but I'd rather have a Poor Man's or even Wipeout.
