Bottle - I get a light amount coffee in nose. I get some hoppiness in the taste. Sweet flavour with caramel, pine, bread, citrus and coffee notes Quite fullbodied, creamy texture and soft carbonation. The finish is more dry with a pleasant bitterness. Im still not sure what to think about this beers. Coffee in an IPA seems weird, but it a lot better than I thought it would be.

Beer bottle (33 cl.) purchased from La Cervoiserie, and tasted in 2013.
Appearance : deep red color, with huge foamy head (but too big bubbles)
Smell : spicy and coffee aromas.
Taste & mouthfeel : coffee and chocolate flavors with spicy notes, leading to a dry and bitter finish.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style American IPA.

Really have looked forward to this one and was excited to find it at Argonaut liquors in Denver.
A: slightly hazy, orangish-gold, some light carbonation and light lacing.
S: Burnt, acrid coffee grounds and dirt. Lots of both. earthy, mushroom like hop smell is there too. The slightly musty, citrusy hops are barely there. I wonder what this would be like fresh, but it really isn't pleasant right now.
T: more earthy, burnt tasting, coal and ash. It tastes like chewing on old coffee grounds and some earthy weird hops. Not pleasant by any means. I didn't expect to struggle to drink a glass with my friends. There is some slight malt sweetness there, but that's the only redeeming quality.
M: slick, oily, slightly thin. light carbonation.
O: I really was let down by this. I figured at the worst, it would be weird and not meld well with the hops and coffee. Instead, the coffee character was disguisting, and the ipa character was nonexistent or barely there. What a mess. I know this is difficult to brew or nail, but this was a huge waste of excitement and money.

Poured into a snifter at my bottle share. Thanks, Jessie.
A: Amber/bronze with a tan half finger head that fizzled out quickly. Lots of lacing.
S: Piney hops. Subtle coffee aroma. Oh my, what do we got here?
T: And it tastes like...whoo, freaky. The grapefruit hops mixed with almost expresso-like coffee give the pallate an unusual sensation. Then you start to process it and it all blends in pretty darn nicely. Some light malts slide in. The finish is dry.
M: Medium with decent carbonation.
O: A great conversation piece, to say the least. A sipper. The double team of flavors sits in your mouth for a while in hop/coffee joy. This could be a pleasant brunch drink.

As far as I know my first from Mikkeller. Poured a massive head into the glass, off white tannish. Steller retention and lacing. Colour is an orange bronze brown and quite hazy.
Smell certainly has a pervading coffee bean aspect out of the glass. Also a strong and strange herbal aroma going on. Grapefruit and berries, very leafy. Hops are incorporated nicely. Although this is one of the strangest and hard-to-place noses I have encountered.
Taste has a firm malt base with a touch of sweetness, then bitter coffee and liquor linger overtop, flashes of alcohol. Hops are citrusy, earthy, and really nice. The incorporation of the coffee is really interesting, initially the raw bean from the nose then trends into a bitter dark espresso on the end. Finish is drying and bitter coffee grounds. Actually the flavours here are balanced quite nicely.
Moughfeel is moderate, nice light malty feel, carbonation is quite light and could use a bit more. Really dry at end, with a bit of liquory alcohol and espresso, generally smooth on the palate, with a really long finish.
Certainly a bit off-the-wall, but I'm not so quick to dismiss this as a novelty. Its a really interesting beer and marriage of flavours, once it settles a bit it is quite tasty, not over bitter but with a refreshing bitter coffee bitterness. Enjoyed it for the interesting approach, though not exactly convinced how it works together and priced too high.
