From a 330 ml brown bottle. Pours out a cloudy almond/amber hue, tight creamy off-white head. Lots of sticky lacing.

Bready, grainy malt on the nose, with some spicy, earthy, mild citrus hops.

Flavour is greater than the sum of its parts. Decent thick bready, biscuity malt backbone to carry along earthy, leafy, spicy, citrus pith hops. Well balanced, good depth to the hop presence.

On the fuller side of things in the mouthfeel, creamy, slip, moderate carbonation.

Nothing complex, but Mikkeller manages to produce a refined American IPA that holds its own, doesn't overwhelm, and leaves you wanting another one. Abv% doesn't fall into session range, however this is a very approachable, drinkable IPA.

Wow, how many different IPA's can Mikkeller brew? Here's one more. On to the beer:

Much darker and dirtier than I was expecting. It looks muddy amber orange in color with the head over a finger's thick. Retention is adequate, and the foam leaves some lacing. The hops seemed to have faded in this one. Right now, there's some tea, pineapple, hint of orange, and bread crust.

There's still enough lupulin power to make this interesting despite much of it seems to have already melted into sticky resin. Resin and pine lead the way, plus the small additon of vague citrus fruits. Faint vegetal note. Time seems to reduce the resiny aspect and amplify the hop juice, which in turn raises the scores of both the taste and the overall experience. Pretty easy to drink even though it's at 7% ABV.

Smiles all around for Mikkeller. They got that IPA thing down.

A - A deep amber color with a dense, frothy head which lives a long time and leaves intense webs of lacing down the side of the glass.

S - A blast of wild grasses, spruce needles, grapefruit pith and white pepper. A faint anise. A nice IPA smell.

T - Hops! Naturally... the taste is peppery and pithy with a hint of grasses and some biscuity malt backing. Aftertaste is faint, light pepper bitterness (which grows stronger in time) and a light hint of malt bitterness. In the long aftertaste this is an unpleasant peppery bitterness mixed with a bit of a medicinal bitterness.

M - Smooth, medium bodied, a little refreshing.

D - It's good, quite good in fact. Still, it is not leagues above SN Torpedo or anything. For the price tag, I just won't have it again. I might have again, if I find it on tap, but this is likely my first and last taste of Mikeller's solid green gold.

Pours dark coppery brown.
Nose shows pine, green apples, grapefruit and pineapple. Also some biscuity and sweet clean malt.
Similarly fruity flavours, also the piney notes. Then that biscuity malt follows before a powerful, sharp bitterness rolls through.
Nice moderately high carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of earthy hops is dominating with some medium notes of dry caramel malt. Taste is dominated by earthy hops notes which are quite pleasant though I prefer more citrus oriented IPA. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Well brewed and packs a good hops punch without being a one-dimensional bitter bomb.

This beer poured out as a murky copper color. The head was thin and white, leaves a thin wispy lacing on the glass. The smell isn't overly hoppy, you can tell it's an ipa but it's not excessively floral or citrusy. The taste has the floral citrusy bite to it. Very good flavor profile. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and kind of on the creamy side. Overall it's a solid ipa in my opinion. Glad I got to try it.

I bought this bottle at Olbutikken after a long stay at Mikkeller Bar. I may not have been in reviewing shape when I had it. From notes.

A - Poured with a great white head that was thick with one finger. Gold or dark gold body with a little carbonation coming up. Bright.

S - Hops were certainly faint for an IPA but surely dominated. Mild alcohol was there.

T - Great juicy resinous hops. It was a different sort of hop profile than I'm used to. Obvious citrus and pine but there was a sort of strong grassy note as well which mixed nicely.

M - Nice tingly carbonation and a medium body. Very smooth.

O/D - Good. A nice IPA. Nothing spectacular and could seriously use some sort of aroma adjustment, but it was nice to drink.

Murky brownish amber in color. Started with a nice off-white head that slowly reduced to a healthy cap that leaves sheets of malty, sticky lacings on the glass. Light citrus hop and malt aromas. Aroma is more indicative of a pale ale than an IPA. Full bodied with rich carbonation and a resinous feel. Big hoppy citrus and pine hop flavors in the beginning with the citrus succumbing to the pine through the end. Sweet malt undertone throughout. Finishes semi-dry with lingering bitterness. I haven't had too many European IPAs. Maybe they don't dry hop as much as American brewers. Despite the subdued aroma, this IPA packs a wallop with it's flavor and hop character.

A -A tanish amber color, that left about a two finger head that kept its retention, and dissipated into some nice lacing around the glass.

S - Not to much nose on this one, a bit of citrus hops, with slight hints of caramel.

T -A pretty good tasting beer, a few citrus notes up front with slight caramel backbone to it at the tail end. Reminded me a bit of Sweetwater's Ipa.

M - Perfect Mouthfeel, medium bodied perfect amount of carbonation.

D - Great session beer, not bad tasting at all very enjoyable and drinkable.

Amber-orange in color with a strong tight foam of an inch right off. Hazy but bright with golden streaks. Looks sticky and fantastic.

Fruity with notes of citrus and tropical fruits. Malts seem a dry, metallic note with some brown sugar. Definitely hop-driven but also quite sweet.

A little more malty than i expected in the flavor; far from being overbearingly hoppy, it's quite balanced. Hops emerge from the initial caramel coating to really become the star, with notes of a wide variety of hops ranging from herbal to tropical fruity to citric zesty. Great flavor.

Body is quite full, for alcohol content and style. Just dry enough to keep it drinkable. Finishes slightly metallic as well. This is a hoppy beer and rather hefty for an IPA. Great recipe, keep up the consistency.

11.2oz bottle

Appears unfiltered and/or bottle conditioned, extremely hazy, dark orange/copper, with a monstrous yellowish white head demonstrating good retention. Leaves bold streaks around the glass.

Smells like grapefruit, citrus rind, and caramel malt. Hoppy but seemingly well balanced.

Citrus, pine, and resinous oily hops. A sharp hoppy bite up front with an assertive malt backbone that allow the hop flavors to shine without bitterness being over-the-top.

Medium bodied, medium carbonation, oily/sticky residual mouthfeel.

Reviewed from notes had on draft at Cape Henlopen Oyster House.

appearance: dark amber red / brow with a 1 finger off white head

smell: citrus, hops, caramel, malts,

taste: a nice balance of hops to malts, citrus, grapefruit, malts

mouthfeel: mild carbonation, medium body

overall: well balanced IPA from Mikkeller, will definitely enjoy this one again before they kick the keg.

The liquid is amber; the liquid a bit cloudy. The very high head is pale brown and compact; it sinks slowly leaving thick lacing on the glass.

The smell is bitter with lots of American citric notes: Grapefruit, lime, bitter oranges. Massive smooth sweet notes; some caramel and toffee. Some oily notes in the background.

The taste is very hoppy and balanced. Citric notes (mostly grapefruits) and a very elegant bitterness. Sweet malty flavours with notes of toffee, rye bread, and a touch of coconut. Hay, dried fruits, flowery flavours and a somewhat oily hint of fruit candy in the aftertaste. Otherwise there is a growing clean bitterness and alcohol. The finish is balanced and a bit dry with a touch of vegetables.

The carbonation is mild; lots of small fresh bubbles. The liquid is smooth.

A solid brew and one of the best Scandinavian American-style IPAs there are.

12oz bottle shared by wishuwerebeer, thanks Bryan. Poured into a hybrid version of pilsner glass meets flute? This brew appears a cloudy copper orange color with an excessive 3 fingers of creamy tan fluff. The cap has good retention and is composed of large bubbles that pop revealing a pillow-like uneven surface atop the brew. It laces with a thick wall of lace all over the glass.

The smell of this brew is grassy with a light lemony citrus component. Some minerals are mixed around in the nose coupled with sulfur. A faint amount of green, young smelling yeast fills out the back end with a nearly cheesy smell to it. A bit of lime zest is evident as well.

The taste is rinds like orange and grapefruit mostly initially that gives way to toasty caramel sweetness. There is a solid bitterness throughout and a present abv warmth for 7%. This brew lingers in the mouth with a flavor of herbs, grain and rindy flavors that are somewhat oily and resinous in the feel.

This is a medium bodied brew with an acceptable amount of carbonation after I shook the shit out of my glass to release the excess carbonation. It was an interesting experience and take on the style but not something I would be quick to return to.

Had from the bottle at Pizza Paradiso, poured into a tumbler.

A one finger off white/brown head that is kind of foamy. Body is cloudy... MURKY... muddy brown and yellow. Super foamy retention on the head with large big lacing. I just particularly do not like this body color.

Bouquet is a predominant obvious fresh grapefruit flesh. But that's about it, not much else, no malt sense of sugars and so forth. It's a good smell I'll give it that.

Taste brings a muted orange and fruit, mild citrus hop bent with a medium body. It's all citrus with a bitter lingering hop finish.

Overall there isn't much to say about this beer though, it's sort of one dimensional. Good but I was hoping for more.

Appearance: Amber red-brown with a nice 3/4" head.

Aroma: Call me crazy but it reminds me of old school juicy fruit gum (which we all know tasted great for 60 seconds and then faded).

Taste: Starts off with some soft bread maltiness, then quickly morphs to a hoppy grass-like flavor and finishes smooth with grapefruit and other citrus fruit flavors and a dryness. It did get warmer and smoother the most I sipped this one.

Overall: I heard about this nomadic brewer Mikkeller and the magic he was creating while brewing all over Europe. This American-style IPA is very drinkable and hop-heavy. If that is your thing, grab one of these. Me, I am more into malts then hops so while I enjoyed this, I would not be able to have 1-2 at one sitting. Cheers!!

The beer pours a golden-orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the perfume and bubblegum, with some grapefruit and bready malt mixed in.

The flavor is very heavy on the grapefruit and other tropical fruit. There is a nice bread malt backbone and the bitterness is pretty low.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

2 Mikkeller Green Gold 11.2 oz. bottles purchased at Capone's. Brewed with simcoe, amarillo and cascade hops at DeProef. $8/bottle.

Appearance: a dark peach color, or sort of orange. Nice thick beige head. Not clear.

Smell: fresh orange and grapefruit juice.

Taste: I don't know..it simply tastes like alcoholic fresh squeezed juice to me..awesome..there's a huge, meaty bitterness in the middle, and finally a numbing butterscotch taste at the end of the sip left on your tongue.

Mouthfeel: bitterness lasts a while which I like!

Overall: It definitely reminds me of Stateside IPA although not quite as yummy.

Poured from the bottle an interesting cloudy apricot color with three fingers of light tan head. Light lacing left behind.

Hoppy grapefruit aroma as expected along with table sugar and sweet caramel malts.

The taste isn't as grapefruit heavy as the aroma but gives a good dosage. The sweet caramel malts are also bolder than the aroma and give a very nice balance to the beer. A touch of bitterness in the finish.

Medium bodied with a sticky dryness and crisp carbonation.

Another nice beer from the folks at Mikkeller. It won't win any beauty contests but it makes up for that with the taste.

must say that it was pretty consistent and rich. a bit darker then most with a somewhat small head. had it better with nicer bigger head. this was the end of the keg which made for something nice and rich but not particularly evanescent. head of about a finger if that. usually about 2 fingers. nose of pine and apricot predominantly. but all the nice citrus fixings. palate was nice and broad citrus, pine, and apple hints in the malt. bitter finish... sort of earthy apple. but not the most potent of bitterings. good all around. better then most american.

Pours a cloudy amber color. You can't even see through the glass. I'm not sure this is the color of an IPA.

Whoa! A sucker punch of grapefruit goes across my nose, shattering it and leaving only an inkling of malt underneath.

A blast of hops to greet the mouth. Mint and grapefruit seem to dominate the most. Very little malt, which is certainly buttery.

Lingering mint and grapefruit notes. Alcohol heat as well. Overall, an interesting mix of flavors that stick around.

Wow. I like this. It's just a straightforward hop missile. Nothing out of place.

L Deep ruby colored body, cloudy, hazy, a good bit darker than most IPA's. Pours a tall head that holds, retains, and leaves a lot of lacing. I'd say this certainly is unfiltered.

S The aroma is straight up grape fruit. Malt is there but completely dominated.

T Very well balanced beer. The hops are up front and direct and the malt balances them out and leaves a really good flavor. Almost reminds me of the malt in an amber but not as strong.

M Well carbonated, medium body but the carbonation makes it seem almost light. This makes for an easy to drink beer. Not sure that's the goal at 6.50 but this being mikkeller I guess price and results aren't going to make any sense what so ever.

D Could easily have a few, but the alcohol kicks more than a 7% beer should. A good bit more.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip.

Pours a deep, clear amber with a frothy beige head that recedes very slowly to a thick cap and leaves delicate lacing along the sides.

Aroma is juicy with pithy grapefruit and some sweeter citrus notes as well. There is more than a hint of caramel and a touch of lemongrass as it warms.

The taste is bitter up front with the grapefruit taking on a much more abrasive character. The malts are present but overshadowed by the hop blast. The finish is drier than I was expecting.

The mouthfeel is dry and bitter, but still with a bit of sugary sweetness lingering as well.

This is a solid IPA that's not exactly balanced as the hops are definitely abrasive and bitter. Still, Mikkel knowns his way around IPAs.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Freshness date says 2/3/12.

Appearance - Dark orange in color, light baige soapy 3 finger head. The lacing is as thick as it gets. Lots of sediment & carbonation, this one looks amazing.

Smell - Mild hoppy smell, very sweet. Citrusy & piney hops.

Taste - This one reminds me of a toned down, sweeter I Beat U. Very balanced, job well done.

Mouthfeel - Smooth & dry.

Drinkability - I could drink a few of these, I wish it came in 4 packs.
