Jackie Brown is really good, really expensive, and really worth your taste buds! It is super complex, full of roasted malt, coffee, toffee, roasted nuts, hop bitterness, and drinkability. The flaked oats really come through and add another layer of complexity. This is super beer and one of my favorites.

750 mL bottle poured into a mini pint glass.

Appearance - A terrible pour yields a huge cream head. Lots of lacing and great retention. Reddish brown body.

Smell - Aggressively hopped. Smells like a red ale. Pine hop and caramel malt.

Taste - Really hoppy again. Still tastes like a red ale. Caramel malts, grapefruit and pine hop. A little nutty, just barely reminds you of a brown ale. A little bit of bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Intensely hoppy is distracting. Bitter. Slightly harsh.

Overall - Barely a brown ale. Just a nutty red ale.

Served in room temperature. My bottle says 6.0% ABV, not 5.90%.

Appearance: Dark brown. Pours a massive, thick and creamy head that lasts.

Aroma: Malty, with hints of burnt caramel and coffee.

Taste: Very soft and smooth on the tongue, with a creamy toffee flavour, vanilla, and a malty aftertaste mixed with milky coffee. Tasty!

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium bodied.

Overall: An interesting variation on the brown ale. Very pleasant and tasty, although it could be a bit more robust. Feels almost like a morning beer.

A - Dark brown with a hint of ruby and a finger of frothy tan-khaki head. Fades normal.

S - Sweet caramel malts, brown sugar, nuttiness, English yeast, some dark fruits, touch of chocolate, some earthy hops.

T - Sweet caramel malts, brown sugar, nuttiness, English yeast and a touch of dark fruits, chocolate, oats, earthy and light citrus hops, some smooth bitterness.

M - Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Super smooth with a sweet, dry, fruity finish.

D - Fantastic brown ale. Great balance of flavors.

interesting example of a brown ale here. the pour is magnificent. dark dark brown, next to no light coming in, with what must be a little sediment in there, and a huge and hard to tame light brown head that is as big as you want it to be, and doesnt fade a bit. the nose is funny, more yeast than i probably want in a brown ale, belgian in nature, and a lot of coffee for a beer that i dont think is brewed with coffee. lots of roast on the malt in both taste and smell, more so than the usual brown ale, and this is missing that caramel sweet element. some hops in the smell too, and especially in the taste, one of more hoppy browns i can remember. its bitter in the finish, really bitter, hops contribute, but so do nearly burnt barley malts. a touch of brown sugar flavor, no sweetness at all. quite thin in body, i like my browns a little richer than this, but it contributes to drinkability i suppose. tons of carbonation too, usually a plus in mikkeller beers brings this to the brink of way way way to thin and light, which is so odd for how dark the color is. i really cant believe this. looks so much darker and richer than it feels. overall though an excellent brown ale, i like the extra hops in here as well as the yeast, gives a new twist to an old style. mikkeller never fails in my book.

750 ml bottle into imperial pint glass, best before 2/3/2011. Pours lightly hazy dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big apple skins, pear, herbal, and yeasty phenols; with slight notes of caramel, chocolate, toast, and light roasted malt. Pretty bad aromas here; this one definitely went south on the store shelf. Mostly fruity phenols and hardly anything else. Taste of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, toast, bread, apple, pear, light char, and herbal spiciness. Fair amount of earthy herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel roasted malt, toast, bread, light fruits, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a bit. Taste was quite a bit better than the aromas would imply; but there was still some phenolic fruitiness noticed, and it was a bit unbalanced. Flavor felt a bit watered down. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this was a pretty poor brown ale, the bottle obviously went south. Aromas had zero brown ale characteristics, but the flavors were a bit closer. I was able to finish this bottle slowly; and I won’t hold this against the brewer, as it was obviously the fault of storage temperature and age.

Muddy, cloudy brown body topped with a sticky, chunky, light tan head; thick rings down the glass; sticky globs, etc. Nothing but a strong, sweet malt aroma; rich caramel, butterscotch, almost 'mocha-like'. Strong caramel taste, well-balanced with a subtle hop bitterness; walnut and hickory nut. Rich, sugary feel; medium-heavy body.

A powerful and delightful brown ale. Depth and complexity in spades! Nicely balanced, well-defined richness...
