I got a bottle of this thanks to RblWthACoz, and tonight seemed like a good night to open it.
Poored it into a pintglass, this beer is pitchdark with some head on it, I somehow expected it to have a creamier head but no complaints though.
It somehow smelled like a fruity coffee, something I would never try but yet it smelled right. The first thing that hit me was the bitterness, I expected coffee, not espresso. I love the feel of this beer, like drinking laced coffee. I did not get any real fruitflavor out of this but there is a hint of oatmeal. I enjoyed this beer a lot but I am glad my husband and I split the bottle, I do think I could get tired of this if I had to drink the whole thing myself.

Another letdown by Mikkeller. Why must you always disappoint? I had big hopes for you, but your dark rich appearance did not match your taste. You were thin, overly carbonated, and dominated by roasted malts. Coffee? I tasted none. Maybe it was the bitter back end that was to be coffee. I will never know. Thanks, but I'll stay with the local breakfast stouts.

Poured into a Due South Brewing Co. snifter. Bottle cap says BF290118
A- Pours a fully opaque black color with a 3/4 inch brown head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and sporadic clusters of surface foam. Thin, semi-resilient lacing streaks down the glass leaving a jagged ring behind on the glass.
S- Wonderful vanilla/chocolate/coffee medley plus some mild hazelnut and caramel.
T- Heavy dark roast with some vanilla and caramel but not as fantastic as the aroma. Moderate bitterness throughout and an alcohol flavor that's somewhat apparent.
M- I was hoping for a bit more creaminess. Mildly sharp from the hops and booze. Medium carbonation and a full body.
O- Super solid. Worth having for the aroma alone.

Poured into a snifter glass. The beer pours black like motor oil with a thin, chocolate brown head that dissipates quickly, leaving only a small lace cap around the edge of the glass. I get plenty of dark roasted coffee on the nose with some chocolate. Those big coffee flavors are there, but are greatly complemented by the dark roasted malt and the smoothness to the mouthfeel the oatmeal brings. Still, this is a very coffee forward stout with only some chocolate flavor. With the smooth mouthfeel and light carbonation, the beer drinks pretty well. Plus at 7.5%, it doesn't have the harsh alcohol feel. This is an excellent beer, but only just so.

The beer pours out in a black color with a wonderfully beautiful brown fluffy head.
The aroma has bitter chocolate, tons of roasted coffee, and some smoke.
The flavor follows. There’s tons of coffee, rich roasted malt. It has a burnt smokiness. You definitely get some umami. The flavor is so rich and delicious on this. The end just cuts you so hard on this bitter 80% chocolate. There’s huge coffee, huge chocolate bitterness. What else is there to ask for the flavor.
For 7.5%, the beer is medium or light on the mouthfeel. That is expected, but that is only disappointment of the beer. Granted, I can’t expect much more on the mouthfeel, but it’s still lovely.
What a surprise. I have to re-review this when I have a fresh bottle because I’ve had the older version of the beer with the old black label. The new one has a gray label.
One of the best stouts I’ve had in this range of ABV. I don’t know where to draw the line on 8-9% stouts.

Pours a very dark brown, with one finger thick creamy light brown colored head. Settles to a thin ring, a few rings down the glass. Smell: espresso, dark chocolate, earth, almost-burnt bread. Taste: espresso, burnt, earthy, slightly acidic, cocoa. A little bracing with the burnt bitterness, but that's ok! Medium bodied, creamy feel. Very nice.

Been looking forward to trying this tasty morsel for a long time. The pour is wonderful, pitch black with a finger of mocha head that retains very well. The aroma is a little weak, but offers a nice roasted coffee. The taste is really just about all that I could want from a coffee stout. There's a nice and strong roasted coffee flavor that pairs very well with the oat sweetness and smoothness. Overall, Beer Geek Breakfast is an extremely tasty coffee stout. The new 11.2oz bottles are actually a fairly good deal as far as Mikkeller prices go as well.
