From a 500 ml bottle into a snifter.
A-The brew is pitch black, the color of coffee, which is a good thing. A normal pour produced a short, dark brown head that dropped quickly to a ring around the glass.
S-The smell is roasted, smokey malts and dark chocolate. Coffee is a component of the smoke flavor, but not very distinct. Just a little caramel whiff as the brew nears room temperature.
T-The coffee establishes itself a little more on the tongue than on the nose, but the dominant flavor is still a smokey bitterness. Once the brew warmed up, the taste grew similar to the smell with some dark chocolate and a little bit of caramel.
M-The feel was the highlight for me. The brew was medium to heavy bodied with a fine carbonation that gave it a smooth feel.
O-This beer grew on me as I drank it. At first, the acrid smokiness was overpowering and I was disappointed by the lack of distinct coffee notes. To be accurate, I would say that the coffee flavor was there, but it tasted burned. Anyway, as things warmed up and my palate adjusted, the flavors began to gel and the acrid flavors subsided a bit, but never completely disappeared.

500ML bottle poured into a pint glass.
extremely dark brown, close to black. head is medium and apparent. Look is almost perfect. Strong coffee aroma on the nose. Taste is an abundance of roasted coffee and oats. Slight chocolate too. Mouthfeel is medium carbonation, not too thick and not too light. Just where it should be. Alcohol i snot apparent whatsoever. I'm really a fan of this type of beer, FBS being one of my faves, and this is a great substitute. This is an outstanding beer.

Vigorous pour with about .5 fingers of head. Pours a lighter shade of black with a medium viscosity. Head dies quick yet leaves a full blanket over the beer as lacing.
Very aromatic on the pour. Smells decent, but a little acidic for my nose. Can smell the acidic coffee, toasty oats, and acidic fruits. Also a fair dose of bittersweet chocolate and a whiff of sweet cream.
Taste was not what I was expecting from the nose. Coffee coffee coffee. Whoa. Pretty awesome flavor. Not terribly complex, but its also pretty interesting. The acidity is almost all coffee based. I'm not getting much of a fruit flavor. The chocolate scent comes off more bitter in the taste. Medium sweetness and very drinkable. A rather astringent and unpleasant aftertaste, unfortunately.
MF is a higher carbonation than many coffee bombs. A medium-high heaviness. The beer is pretty dry and easy drinking.
I was pretty impressed with my first Minkkeller brew. Great flavor, well-rounded, and all around tasty. Looking forward to trying more.
