Went here for some beers with good friends on my 30th birthday weekend trip to Grand Rapids. Excellent draft and Can list with all 5 in our party not drinking anything anyone else had in 3-4 rounds. The service couldn't have been better with our server being excellent at discussing what types of beers we all like and making recommendations based off of that(not too mention how hilarious he was). If you're in Grand Rapids checking out Founders and the Hopcat, make sure you stop in here as well!

Stopped in on the last Saturday in January to Sazerac Lounge to take part in Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School. (A once a month night where artists bring sketchbooks and art supplies to the bar to draw burlesque performers and other odd folks.) It cost me $10 to get in, but included admission to Shimmy Shack Burlesque afterwards. Dr. Sketchy's also included prizes, each round of drawing patrons can receive free shots, books, posters, tickets to local events, etc...
The atmosphere in Sazerac is great, very loungey, dark, red and romantic. Exposed brick walls, and newly remodeled bathrooms. Beers on tap were pretty good fair, I had a glass of New Holland Dragon's Milk ($5, served in a Chalice), a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, and an Atwater Vanilla Porter ($4.25). All were reasonably priced and served in a timely manner even though the bar quickly filled up to capacity for the burlesque show.
Clientele was an eclectic mix of hipsters, artists, performers, and I even spotted a former professor of mine. Was strangely a night where 21 year olds could easily mix with those 40 and above.
Will most likely be making this a monthly stop to drink and draw.

A pretty decent bar. Went here with some friends on a Thursday night, it was busy and started to get more crowded as the night went on; there was a live band starting shortly before we left. Exposed brick walls with a fairly dark atmosphere. Pretty nice.
On tap were a few surprises, such as Rogue Dead Guy Ale, New Holland Scotch Ale and Mad Hatter, Brooklyn Brown, and a few others. Not bad. Service was quick and friendly, and they served the Scotch Ale in a chalice. A nice place, if not exactly a beer bar.

Sixteen taps. Miller Lite the sole macro on tap. Brooklyn Brown, and Saisson de Brooklyn were the two most memorable to me. Centennial IPA from Founders. Oberon of course. Flying Dog pale ale I believe. Respectable to be sure. The atmosphere is nice. Dim with rich colours. A couple red cloth pool tables pull the game room together with the rest of the scheme. A nice room. The selection is satisfying. I am unsure how many bottles are on the list, but last I looked it was decent. Pizza rocks. I got an 18 inch loaded with meat with carnival sized slices for $12.50 which is solid in my estimation. Plus to dump good beer on top of that is always nice. Very reasonable. Chill. It seemed to be relatively underpatronized, especially for a Friday, which is a shame. This place is definitely worth a gander. It is a bit difficult to actually get into the place. I almost ended up in a karate dojo.
