Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue IX:
Moo Thunder comes in a can featuring a cartoon cow with dangling utters, jumping as its ass is getting jolted by a black lightning bolt. Ha! We just remembered that Black Lightning was the first black comic book hero in the late '70s. Man, he was one badass crime fighter.
Pours a rich, opaque black with dark brown edges and a creamy tan lace. Soft aroma, all malt, with some roastiness, dark chocolate and a hint of milkiness. Smooth up front, with a medium body and even consistency that's on the lighter side of the Stout spectrum without being watery. Edges are a wee bit astringent with a roasty bite, but it smoothes out beneath with some chocolate, earth, toasty brown breads and a lingering malty sweetness. The sweetness isn't cloying and is quite pleasing on the palate. Hops are very tame, only making an appearance as a light herbal and leaf character way in the back--not at all bitter, which is on par with what they're aiming for. Finishes dry and moreish, along with some bitter chocolate and rustic bread flavors that dissipate fairly quickly.
This is beer, people. Beer that reminds us that sometimes simple can be best and its marketing reminds us that beer is, and always has been, fun. Flavorful, extremely drinkable and ... fun!

The beer pours out in an almost pitch black color with 2 fingers of a beautiful creamy fluffy tan head. Unfortunately, no date on the can.
The aroma is very chocolate forward with some roasted malt. You definitely get more as it warms up.
The flavor is quite good. There’s a hit of coffee, and then a bitter chocolate. There’s even a roasty dryness on the back end. It leaves you with a bit of chocolate malt powder flavor. The flavors aren’t too big, but not bad as well. It has quite the porter/coffee quality in there.
The mouthfeel unfortunately is a bit light, but that reminds me of many classic, well rated porters and stouts.
This actually is not a bad beer at all. While Young’s can be quite offensive in flavor, this packs tons of flavor for a 4.9% ABV beer. I’m really happy with having tried this. Not my favorite stout/porter, but a really good session option.

Moo thunder pours and extremely dark body. This is darkness collapsed upon itself in an abandoned mine shaft at about 3am. The smaller then average light brown head stays the course.
The aroma is all about the roasted malt, with a slight hint of cheap coffee.
The flavor is sweet and roasty, with perhaps, a fleeting hint of cocoa.
The mouthfeel is a bit much with the higher then called for carbonation level.
Overall a decent sweet stout.
