On tap at the pub, one of their specialty higher ABV one-offs available on the back taps. Courtesy of dgilks - cheers David!

This brew is indeed difficult to identify, as it possesses qualities of Oud Bruin, Lambic, and Wild Ale. It's kind of all over the map, but whatever the end result was, I found it to be quite enjoyable.

An amber-brown brew, with a little bit of head.

Nose was lambic yeast, sugar, fruit, some nice Belgian funk.

The taste is somewhere between many different styles, sweet and fruity (lemon, citrus) like a lambic, with some tart musky notes, yet bitter and sharp in places like a Flemish brown. Personally, I think it works, as it seems to take my favorite elements of multiple styles and melds them together, but there is still room for improvement here. An intriguing and enjoyable sipper nevertheless.

Certainly worth a look.

I'll make this clear. This is an American Wild Ale solely because it isn't really classifiable.

It is a hazy, amber colour (paler than an Oud Bruin but darker than a Gueuze) with a tiny off-white head. No head retention.

Mild tart and funky nose. Lemons and "sweet" funk are the dominant aromas. Hints of cherry.

The flavour is interesting. It seems a little funky with touches of tartness. There is also quite a bit of bitterness. The fruit notes are mostly lemon and there is some sweetness in there too. Interesting but it falls a little flat. There are some nice, fresher fruit notes but the bitterness still cuts through.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. This works fine in this beer.

An interesting beer and I'm pleased to see another wild beer coming out of the Wig and Pen. The flavours don't quite seem right for a lambic style beer and the flavours aren't right for an Oud Bruin either. Close but no cigar really.
