Brewed in honor of Latona Pub's 25th anniversary.
On-tap at Latona Pub in Seattle, WA. February 20th, 2012.
A: The beer pours a dark reddish brown color with a small head of tan foam. Lacing is extremely minimal and does not linger.
S: The initial aroma is that of spicy rye malt, raisins and grain. Alcohol not noticeable.
T: The rye is predominant in the brew, which isn't surprising based on John Maier's comments from the evening at Latona. Nice caramel malt flavor follows up the rye with just a hint of bittering hops. The Meridian and Liberty hops aren't front forward, but they still help finish off the beer with a nice bitter note.
M: Medium to strong body with an oily mouthfeel imparted largely by the hops.
O: I'm not the hugest fan of Rogue (more the business practices than their beer), but when you make a 20th anniversary beer and then a 25th anniversary beer for my neighborhood pub, you get some props in my book. And then making the 25th anniversary beer a Red/Rye hybrid that's actually good, you get even more points. Nice sentimental release that's definitely drinkable. Worth your time.
