[Suggested Glassware: Snifter]
The pour was a thick deep dark black with a large (2-3 finger) medium cocoa brown creamy head that reduced slowly, down to a thick puddled film with a medium collar and produced absolutely great drippy sticky lacing.
The aroma right up front was all about the chocolate with a bold roasted malt and a heavy doughy yeast along with notes of chocolate of course (dark and milk), roasted coffee and a slight hint of vanilla that was just barely noticeable.
The taste was really fantastic with a nice thick maltiness and a milk chocolate sweetness from the get go, becoming a just tad bitter with a mild coffee presence and a big dose of bitter chocolate towards the finish. The flavor lasted for an extremly long time following the swallow, with the chocolate taste fading away and leaving behind a mild bitter roastiness to linger for a while longer.
Mouthfeel was full in body with an exceptionally creamy texure and a soft carbonation.
Overall this is one fantastic tasting brew!! It possesses a ton of roasty chocolate flavor along with a mild smooth bitterness, which together does an awesome job of totally concealing the high ABV, making this a very easy to drink and extremely enjoyable brew...

Presentation: 750mL bottle with a red coating. Served in a pint glass.
Appearance: Two finger dark tan head that fizzles out rather quickly. It's pretty much black in color and it leaves some good lacing.
Smell: A sweet chocolate smell dominates, with some hints of roasted malt in the background.
Taste: Tastes of dark and milk chocolate, with some smokiness from the roasted malt. It's very sweet. There's some bitterness at the end but it's not really that noticeable.
Mouthfeel: There's very little carbonation. It's creamy, smooth, full bodied and rather strong. After drinking about half a glass it starts getting cloying because of the sweetness.
Overall: It's a sweet treat, best to have it in small doses. You'll enjoy it a lot more if you pair it with any chocolate dessert, because by itself it'll just feel like too much sweetness after a while.

Pours deep black, caramel foamy head that starts off fluffy and recedes.
Smells great. Milky chocolate, dark fruit, a creamy vanilla hint.
Tastes like the smell, but now I'm getting that U-Bet chocolate syrup as it tastes in one of one of those soda shop egg creams. Great vanilla swirls around in here too. A slightly bitter but roasted aftertaste. That's it, simple but great.
Incredibly smooth and silky, carbonation is medium.
Great double stout, and although lacking complexity this one's now a new favorite of mine simply due to how Rogue makes use of what's in here.

Appearance is a deep dark brown with a thin layer of head that still left some nice lacing behind. Chocolate and a little roast were present in the nose. Chocolate was very upfront in the flavor and the roasted bitterness took over on the finish. However, there was a lingering chocolatey sweetness throughout. Excellent effort and a true chocolate beer experience!

Had this some time ago and really thought it was good. Picked one up, recently on a long trek.
Pours a nice rich dark brown and appears practically black in the glass. Has a thin and quickly fleeting deep brown head. Looks promising.
Smell is nice, definitely robust. Charred coffee and dark chocolate all the way. A tad sweet, hint of honey and some booze. Prominent chocolate and coffee though.
Taste is robust, big, strong dark coffee with the whole burnt char bitterness. There is a strong lingering essence of milky dark chocolate... kind of wavers. The chocolate kind of hangs over the whole stout like a veil. has some sweetness on the front but it set back by the roast and coffee malts. The hops kill it off as well and dry out the end with a woody and slightly piney hop profile. Tad bit of booze on the end as well among the hops.
Mouthfeel is a little weak for me. It seems a bit too light. I would prefer it have a bit more body or oiliness. The robust taste just doesn't seem to fit the bill. If this were a slightly bigger and even more aggressive beer it would be phenomenal for me.
Overall it grows on you. I am through my first glass and I feel ready for another and will be satisfied with a tad more. Glad I am sharing this one though. It is slightly reminiscent of Sam Smiths Chocolate Stout. Just more robust and bitter. At the price it is a bit hard to want another. The purpose for me taking another would be to age and see if I can knock down some of the bitterness.

Red painted 750mL bottle served in imperial pint glass. Beer is pitch black in color with a healthy brown head. Big chocolate aroma, as expected... not too sweet, doesn't smell like candy or anything. Just cocoa.
Flavor is semi-sweet chocolate up front and bitter chocolate right through the middle. Mouthfeel is quite thick and creamy. Reminds me more of Stone bitter chocolate oatmeal stout that Brooklyn black chocolate stout, though both are favorites. There is a bit of tang from hops in here, though.
This beer is pure liquid chocolate brew. Relatively high ABV and the finite novelty of chocolate are the only things that limit the enjoyability of this Rogue.
