Appearance has a slightly hazy golden straw color supporting a nice steady head leaving a nice curtain of lace. Smell has a nice floral hop aroma over the Dare malt. Taste having a bold, but not overassertive bitterness blending well with the sweetness of the malt. mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. An easy drinking PNW ale.

a: A slight haze to a straw colored beer. Very unique and cool to look at. Held up to the light you get faint tints of copper. Thin white head that is gone in moments.

s: Watery smell, with hints of lemons. Decently pleasant.

t: The bitterness was very fresh however seemed to slightly over power the rest of the flavors. In the background there is some bitter lemons and earth.

m: It is a strong medium mouthfeel Very enjoyable.

o: I enjoyed this beer very much. I wish the flavors balanced themselves out a little more however overall, it was not a bad finish to the flavors. I would drink this beer again. Would not be the first thing I purchase however should I be in the specific mood for a beer with a solid bite - this it is.

A commercial SMaSH brew! Poured into a shaker from the bottle. Pours a fairly hazy golden straw color with thick, rocky head on top. There is tons of good lacing to the glass. The nose is nice and simple and revolves around some fresh bread, light yeast smell, and very lemony hop smell to the nose. The taste is a nice flow from the nose. There is good sweet malt up front with an oily lemon zing to it. The malt and the hops play nicely together. The mouthfeel was a little thin, but finished nice and dry overall. I think this a good beer, something I am doing in my own homebrews. I think the only detriment comes from the haziness on the appearance and the thin mouthfeel. It was a good beer and a good concept.

Rouge Single Malt Ale pours an almost hazy golden color, with a small but lacing head. There is a sweet crisp malty aroma, with just a hint of hop. The taste is the same way, good balanced mellow malty flavors, with just a hint of hops mixed in. Good full bodied flavor. Overall this is a slightly hoppy blonde ale with full flavors, very enjoyable for this style.

Hazy pale blonde, one finger of white head with pretty good retention as well as a fair bit of lace. Smell is full of lemony citrus hops followed by cereal malts, more hop and a bit of earthiness, not overly complex but a nice mixture of light citrus and malts. Taste follows the nose, lemony citrus up front, bready malts follow, hoppy and lightly bitter throughout, citrus aftertaste. High carbonation , medium body though watery at points and a bit thin. This was pretty enjoyable although simple, not a whole lot going on here to make this a great beer but certainly something that I could drink a few glasses of throughout the day.

500 ml bottle poured into a chalice glass.

A-Pours a golden straw colour with about two fingers of off white head. Head stays up for a decent amount of time and leaves behind a very solid white lace on the glass.

S-moderate hoppy aroma. Probably just the marketing, but I also get a whiff of barnyard or haystack.

T-grassy hops with rustic cereal.

M-nicely carbonated. Bubbles seem to allow the flavour to wash over the tongue.

O-quite liked this one. Simple an refreshing. Would love to kick back on a porch in the summer with a bottle of this and a steak. Probably not the best beer for the winter season, but I knew that going in.

This very nice blonde comes out of the bottle looking a little dirty with some nice head. The aroma is mild and appropriate for the style.

The taste is also right where it should be - slightly over the top. It is a nice mild hoppy taste, but truly unique. The aftertaste also sticks with you in a nice way.

Unfortunately, this brew cannot overpower strong flavors and I just killed my taste buds with some hot jerky. Time for some cheese so I can appreciate this good beer.

I would buy this again.

Pours a pretty straw/blonde color. Rather clear for most part with a tall snow white head. Pleasant light citrus and floral notes.
Light sweetness and lightly bitter. That’s about it. Good body as Rogue always has, but not much else going on. Very minimal hop presence.
Nice body but fairly boring in flavor. This beer is by no means bad or repulsive, just bland and uneventful. Taste like a higher quality adjunct lager.
I do really like the simplistic approach to this beer. Most of today's craft brews seem to have 6 kinds of malt, 6 kinds of hops, aged in this, blessed by that etc. This actually reminds me alot of the first home brew I ever made come to think of it.

First Growth Single Malt Ale is a blonde ale that comes to us in a 22 oz. bomber. It pours a slightly hazy yellow, with a billowing, creamy white head. The nose is light citrus with a mild and floral hop presence.

This beer begins with a light toastiness from the grains and but then delivers some great citrus notes and a hop kick in a bitter, crisp finish. It’s very bright, but at the same time, also earthy. The PacMan yeasts even give it sort of an English ale dimension. This is a medium-body beer with lots of carbonation and a slight creaminess.

A very easy drinking beer; simple in its flavors, but I think it does what it intended to do; showcase the freshness of the ingredients and the essence of beer itself. I’m really looking forward to trying other selections from the Chatoe.

Bought at Total Wine in Claymont Delaware.
Continuing my Rogue journey, having now had just about all of the Chatoe Rogue selections.

Poured into a tall beer mug, a cloudy yellowish orange with about 2 finger head, bubbly and off white. Minimal lacing.
The malt scent jumped out at me immediately, with almost a breadiness evident.

First sip, noticed the lighter mouthfeel which is to be expected for a single malt American ale.
Mostly noticing the maltiness in flavor with the Revolution hops adding the bitterness that I enjoy very much.
I could see this being a good session beer in the summer as it's a smooth drink with a low ABV.

As a hop head, I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this, but it did deliver.
And as others have said, I always respect the process of Rogue growing their own barley, malt and hops. It adds authenticity to this selection. Try it!

Bottle pour at the BevMo Holiday Beerfest held at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a murky orange with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, fruits, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it's pretty basic for the style.

Bright golden/straw color and medium head. Inviting appearance. Smells bready and yeasty. Good lacing. Very light mouthfeel. Refreshing. Malty with light floral hops, but tasty hop flavor. No booziness. A little bit of bitterness in the finish.

Overall: This beer is very refreshing and is overall, enjoyable. It has all the elements you’re looking for: maltiness, hoppiness, bitterness. However, the mouthfeel is soooo light, and the bitterness so mellow, that it lacks the profoundness necessary to raise it to the next level. Tasty hop flavor, though light. I would definitely appreciate this beer on a hot day or when I need a good swig of something refreshing, but it is not a real standout.

Bought a 22-oz yesterday from Total Wine. Looking at the label, I just love this concept: a single malt ale with homegrown Rogue farms malt & hops. The malt is "Dare" and the hops are "Revolution". Poured into a tulip glass for review. Small sticker on bottle says 6/27/12.

Pours a cloudy yellow with nice little fluffy head that fades to a thin lacing. A few suds cling to the glass. Some larger carb bubbles could be seen on the glass sides that lent add'l carbonation after the pour.

Smells of doughy malt. Reminds me of taking pizza dough out of the breadmaker. No hops evident in the nose - I'm assuming the hops were used mostly for bitterness. There's a slight lemony character and the slightest of sweetness.

Tastes purely malty but is evened out with some firm bitterness. Feels light, maybe a tad medium. Has some nice waves of grain toward the back end. The Pacman yeast seems somewhat evident, but the single malt is the showcase in this one. After checking out the suggested food pairing for this beer off Rogue's website, I enjoyed this bottle with some spicy fish, broccoli, and a baked potato and it really hit the spot.

Overall, I really dig this beer for the concept of Grow Your Own (GYO). For that alone, I give an overall score of 5. Having just homebrewed a wet hopped beer a few weeks ago, I really admire what Rogue did with this one. I think a tad bit more hop character would help in the aroma & nose profile, but I'm Rogue is attempting to showcase the malts, not the hops, in this finely crafted ale.

beautiful golden color, nice little creamy head, with tight bubbles on the glass as you tilt to drink. no lacing, except for the previous Duvels i had poured in before this one which have since stuck to the side of the glass like a carb-y rice film.
strong malt malt and hop aromas, with a hoppy finish on the tongue. a coating of maltiness in the beginning, but some definite mild hops at the finish.
minor carbonation, medium viscosity, and overall a decent brew to have a couple of or more. since i heard Rogue was brewing strains of yeast from the master brewer's beard, i've been a little hesitant about all their beers. i mean, can you imagine the more 'common' areas they might have already chosen for their previous beers . . . . ? yeah, you know . . . .

On-tap 8/21/2012 at Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell, NJ, served in a US pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains citrus, caramelized malts and a good amount of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a strong but not over-powering hops presence. Then some mildly sweet flavors of citrus and caramel come in. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.

Had on draft at Pizza Paradiso, DC (Georgetown)

A: light orange; semicloudy; thin head, mixed-size bubbles; decent lacing
S: bubblegum, hoppy, persistent and very inviting
T: hops prominent--grass, hay; the (single) malt stays in the backseat, seems to be a medium roast; grapefruit rind on the tail end of the swig

On-tap at the brewery in Newport, OR.

Pours a very pale yellow hue: very mild and light. Head is very frothy and egg white; it leaves firm rings of lace down the glass. Carbonation is streaming, but quite mild. Not bad all up.

Nose is very, very light and very, very dull. Some maltiness comes through along with a very faint hint of lemon, but it's not exciting or bold, and doesn't really give me anything insight into the malt itself.

Pale light entry on the palate, with a clean but empty mid-palate. There's a touch of bitterness on the finish, along with some husky grain. It's not unpleasant, it's just, well, not there. Feel is extremely weak. Almost watery.

I don't have a lot to say about this beer, because this beer doesn't have a lot to say about itself. Single malt? Is that interesting? Certainly not this one.

22 oz bottle poured into a nonic.

Opening this beer lets out a violent hiss of CO2. As I pour, the glass quickly fills with foam, leaving maybe 25% beer and 75% foam in the glass. Volcanoes of bubble rush to the surface... First impression is that this is likely infected.

Aroma is harsh, mediciny, aspirin, fusel alcohol. First sip very astringent, bitter, and extremely dry and watery. There is something seriously off with this beer. There is absolutely no residual sweetness or mouthfeel, just a fizzy bitter taste, and then nothing.

Yuck. I'm not drinking this one. I gave it several healthy swallows, and I'm throwing in the towel. Down the drain it goes. A huge disappointment.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that eventually completely faded away, leaving a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of spicy hops and earthy yeast in the nose. These become stronger as the beer warms up.
T: Flavors of biscuit and pale malts are present in the taste along with a light amount of bitterness. There are also some hints of hops and yeast. At first, the taste seems a little bland but it improves as it warms up.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: Nothing really stood out about this beer that would make me want to try it again but it could be something suited for a hot summer day.

Had this at the local bar as part of their incentive program. I was happy to see an Oregon beer as part of the program (go Ducks!).

The look fits the profile of a blonde beer. It is nice and light with fluffy foam on top. You can tell that it woudl leave some good lacing right off the pour.

I smell what right from the glass. It is a refreshing beer. The flavor is very complimentary. I would say that this would work as a great entry level beer for people graduating from BMC.

Pick up a bottle. Hopefully it isn't priced too high. Unfortunately most Rogue beers are pretty expensive in New Jersey.

A light hazy golden pour, 2 finger head of foam, some lacing.

It smells like a typical adjunct lager...some sweetish malty notes with some grain, light hoppy notes.

The taste is better than the smell. Nice malty notes paired with a spicy Pilsner-like hoppy profile, it has a nice dryness that finishes crisp and clean. Without looking up what this was brewed as, or looking at the label, I would have guessed this to be a Pils.

An interesting brew that's an easy quaffer and has some good taste to it, I like it. Probably more than most. ;^)

A - Light and clear amber under a thick head and spotty lacing.

S - Fresh citrusy hops, sweet bread malts, earthy spices.

This and The Good Chit by Chatoe Rogue are the two best beers I've ever had for general beer consumption. Occasionally I like heavier and lighter beers, but for the standard, their single malt ale and the good chit are the best. Since I first tried these beers no other beer satisfies me, in the general range of beers, excluding heavies and true lights.

Here's my E=mc^2 description of this beer, and 'the good chit', which are both nearly indistinguishable, btw:

OMG, amazing, the best beers. The only beers that I have thought "How can I make these beers, these are the best I've ever had!" Because the balance of the flavor-nourishing-quality-feel is the best I've ever had.

Poured into a Jameson Irish Whiskey glass:
- Light golden liquid, medium white head.
- Beautiful light hoppy floral fruity aroma. Top quality.
- Amazing balance, only lightly sweet, grapefruity flavor, noticeable acid, but not too acid(whereas for example, S.N. Hefeweizen is too acid). For the alcohol content it has, it is not 'too sweet', and it is not 'mellow'. This is a lively refreshing and very nourishing feeling beer(though on the lighter refreshing side, but not too light, it has standard punch),...as part of a balanced diet.
The best. Amen!

A- Light crisp and hard to describe hop aroma.

A- Pours a very light golden color. Stock white head. Very mild haze that fades with warming.

F- Crisp almost sharp flavor that reminds me of a pilsner. Firm bitterness that seems a little out of line for the amount of body present.

M- High average carbonation.

O- A cool idea and a nice drinking beer. There's not too much that jumps out at me in the beer, but I do love the idea that it is from their hops and their malt. Keep it up guys!

Pours an attractive, if typical, clear amber with a very thick, fluffy, and rather persistent white head. Aroma is malty, yeasty and a little fruity, and not particularly strong. Malty flavor has a bitter, slightly tinny overtone and a hint of fruit Texture is smooth and has average body but not much fizz. Not one of Rogue’s better efforts, but still palatable.
