On tap at Ramunto's in Lebanon NH. Served in a standard pint alongside two specialty pizza slices for a cool $10. Reviewed from notes taken this evening.

A: Slightly hazy brown/ dark copper brew shows red highlights against a light. Thin light brown head.

S: Fairly intense and very balanced, a bunch of malt and a bit more hops. Hops are a mix of herby, citrus, grass. Malt is bready and brown sugar, like a crisp brown ale.

T: Great mixed hoppiness of mixed citrus rind, pine, a bunch of florals and fruits. Malt backbone is bread and brown sugar, slight caramel and vanilla notes. The finish is residual hop, candied cherries, cinnamon, apricot.

M: Medium/ medium-heavy body, great balance. Good carbo, mostly dry finish with a bit of hop resin.

D: Great! Very tasty. Alcohol not apparent but it feels like approx 7%.

Served on-tap at Drop Off Service in New York, NY

A: Pours an opaque yet clear very dark brown in color (approaching but not quite black) with light amounts of gentle visible carbonation near the surface and some cola brown highlights. The beer has a finger tall light beige head that reduces to a couple of small patch of thin bubbles and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of dark roasted malts along with light to moderate aromas of pine/resin hops and just a hint of spiciness.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of dark roasted and slightly burnt malts that is followed by moderate flavors of pine/resin hops. Moderate to strong amounts of bitterness that linger for a short while.

M: Just heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: This one is a bit of a hybrid of a Black IPA and a Winter Warmer which I find a slightly awkward style - it is a little more approachable than a lot of other winter warmer beers as it is less sweet and not as intensely spicy.

On-tap at Drop Off Service, New York, NY

A: The beer is very dark brown (near black when viewed from afar) in color. It poured with a thin off white head that died down, leaving some bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of pine resin hops and hints of dark roasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste is dominated by a moderate to strong aromas of bitterness with notes of pine resin hops and hints of roasted malts.
M: It feels a bit heavier than medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems to be a little easier to drink compared to other beers in the style and reminds me a little of a Black IPA.

From notes taken last night at Kick-Off in Waterloo, on tap via disposable plastic kegs.

Although not traditional for the winter warmer style, really enjoyed this beer. A winter ale with attitude!

Pours a beautiful dark (blackish) amber with decent head and impressive lacing. Very limited aroma with only the faintest caramelized malts. However an awesome taste, with a bitter profile from start to finish. Resinous pine and pineapple, and a lovely backbone of roasted dark malts with both coffee and dark chocolate tones. Delightfully bitter finish lingers for an impressive length of time.

Not a beer I have seen before, but one I will seek out again whenever possible.

I poured a bottle into a mug.

Appearance- Cloudy brown color with two fingers worth of tan, foamy head. Fair amount of lacing.

Smell- Strong hop aroma with a hint of brown sugar and caramel.

Taste- Piney hop bitterness at the start with some spice and toffee-like flavors blending in toward the finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with an average amount of carbonation.

Overall- A little too hoppy for the style but drinkable.

A thin creamy head sits firmly atop this dark dark brown ale. A bit of licorice and some mint is present in the aroma of dark malts and resinous hops. Overall, it smells like a richer, more bitter brown ale. Spicy chocolate taste. Chili peppers and dark cacao live large with just a hint of evergreen hops and some caramel malt. Its a bit toasted but not too smoky; the coffee malts don't come through as strongly as I had expected. The lacing lining the side of the glass is astounding, good enough to raise my appearance rating from 3.5 to 4. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and more carbonated than is necessary for a winter warming beer.

Overall, this beer has trouble finding an identity, especially as a winter warmer. I like it but I am not too picky.

A- Muddy brown. Foamy head, ending up clumpy - like moguls. Mildly uninviting. Solid, opaque, but underwhelming.

S - Piney, spicy, malty. More of a Winter smell than a Floral/Hoppy smell. Maltiness that seems to be normal for Rogue Ales. Strong malt that shines through.

T - Malty, spicy, with a bitter hop finish. Resembles other winter warmers at first. Slightly sticky, bread-like almost. As the taste dissipates, the bitterness/bite of the hop agenda becomes evident. Truly a surprise for me. A welcome surprise.

M - A little watery, yet slightly frothy. Not overwhelming, but strong enough to be on the full-bodied end of the spectrum.

O- Good beer. Not a normal "Winter Warmer" spice/malt with a sweet finish. The hops were a pleasant surprise. Overall, this is a One and Done for me, but well worth it every chance you get.
