A - Cloudy amber orange color, small off white head, however the lacing left perfect rings for about 3/4 of the glass.

S - Good amount of sugar and sweet malt, Nice wet hop aroma, with some other citrus as well.

T - Nice sweet taste, Good bitter from the wet hops, Malt adds a nice balance between the bitter and sweet.This reminds me of the Chatoe Rogue Creek Ale, without the cherry bitterness.

M - Very different from most beers, a very unique feel. It has good carbonation, but has a much thicker viscosity then most APA's. It doesn't have the thickness that a stout or porter would have, but still a full bodied beer.

O - This was a great beer, the flavor and aroma blended fantastically. I'm still not sure about the mouthfeel though, it's just odd to me, but in the future it could grow on me.

Rogue's Wet Hop Ale--which proudly states that the hops were picked and immediately driven seventy-seven miles to be pitched into the brew kettle--smells far less hoppy than such a description would imply. There are hops, yes, in rolling sweeps of grapefruit and light pine, but sugars and malts make up the larger part of the nose, bringing seas of toasted grains, brown sugars, bread, and apricots.

On the tongue, the immediate flavors are sugary and lovely, swirling in light fruit esters (grape, apricot, apple, berry), brown sugars, toasted wheats, and unbuttered toast. The hops, though present in 65 IBU strength, are surprisingly subdued for most of the mouthful, peering out meekly from behind the wheat fields. This doesn't mean that they aren't present, but that the normal hoppy bitterness seems accompanied by taming plant flavors; the fact that the hops are fresh has made them less wild and concentrated, and more subtle and nuanced. Late in the mouthful the sugars die off, and more hop bitterness does come through, partnered with a slight grassy note, or the taste of biting into vine. The aftertaste is a continuation of these latter flavors, and fades with moderate quickness. Mouthfeel is medium, and carbonation is medium.

Overall, while this brew doesn't provide the intensely hoppy buzz that comes with many wet hop beers, the flavors that are present are good, and the beer is very drinkable. Still, something seems ever-so-slightly missing, as if the beer needed that extra kick--whether sugar or hop--to round out the picture.

Appearance: frothy, mostly diminished head, clear body, brown.
Aroma: Moderate malt, light bread, toasted, molasses, hops, (what hops), nothing there. Palate: medium, oily/creamy texture, very little carbonation.
Plenty of head, just no real hoppiness. My be moving towards "skunk" state.

Poured from bomber into British Pint glass. Like others have noted, no freshness/bottled on- information.

A: Darker amber color with about an inch of head.

S: Mainly caramel/malt. A bit of a chemical off-smell in mine.

T: Barely discernible hop taste. Much more of a malt.

M: Nothing too disagreeable. Very little alcohol burn.

O: Had higher expectations than this. The description above (and on the label) made it look more special than it is. Probably would not go to again.

22 oz bottle with no freshness info.

Pours a dark, brick-amber with a khaki head. Smell is "wet" and leafy, some tartness too. Taste is pretty mellow for the 65 IBU claim, actually way more balanced toward malt than I would believe. Don't get me wrong - it's good though. Finish is bittersweet. Reminiscent of a few other Rogues I've had, this is a tasty pale ale.

22oz bottle into a white wine glass · fridge temp · 2010 harvest?

Appearance: A strong amber color is gorgeous. A generous 3" head grows and settles with an ivory head. Great retention and lots of spotty lace.

Smell: Nougat malt aroma. Nuts, biscuits, fresh barley. Not much hop action on the nose.

Taste: A very tasty malt flavor. Cereal, figs, raisins, almond. There is some hop bitterness, but not a whole lot of hop flavor complexity. Think donuts.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, ample sweetness, very little alcohol. There seems to be a lot of residual sugar.

Drinkability: This is a good beer. I like supporting farmers, so I had to try another on of the GYO series. This is a solid beer, but the term Wet Hop implicated a hoppy beer to me, which this certainly isn't.

Golden burnt orange color with a slight amount of foam. Leaves a large amount of thin lace. Not too much hop in the nose but some strong caramel tangy wheat malt. Almost a rye aroma. Flavor is light on character. Some sweet and tangy malt notes. Wheat definitely with a light metallic middle. Crisp, lightly floral hop finish. Body is light and crisp with a good amount of carbonation with a dry finish.

A - Pours a hazy amber colour, with an of white head that hangs around and laces.

S - Not as hoppy as I would have expected, but hoppy nonetheless.

T - Plenty of hops up front followed by malts and a decent dry finish.

M - Medium body and carbonation.

D - An interesting beer but not exciting.

650ml bottle served in a standard pint glass.

pours a slightly cloudy dull amber/copper color with a solid finger of beige head. middling retention; patchy lacing.

nose is subdued, definitely not as aromatic as i typically look for. notes of citrus hops... a bit biscuity. the 3.0/average rating here is a bit charitable.

flavor mostly follows the nose. hoppy/earthy with some balancing malt characters. a touch of hops bitterness in the finish. it's decent - by no means a drainpour - just a bit underwhelming.

medium bodied mouthfeel with average carbonation. goes down easy enough, but with more tasty beers out there i probably won't be gunning for this one again.

A: Pours out a light brown hue with orange highlights. Thick, thick, thick, two finger head subsides to a crown of large bubbles

S: Light pine, grapefruit, tangerine, mango, malts are like cinnamon raison bread.

T: Very similar to the smell. Light pine flavor with luscious tropical fruits like mango and guava. Malts and brown sugar and cinnamon breakfast bread.

M: Medium bodied with a slight creaminess to it.

D: Quite a subdued and dense IPA. I'm enjoying it, but once is probably enough.

Just coming off a sub-par pilsner (Victory's Prima Pils, which I understand most everybody else likes), this brew made my mouth water. Nothing special in appearance, kind of cloudy burnt orange, and the nose is pretty subdued, too. But let's be real. The look of a beer matters mostly for aesthetics, and although smell can make a beer great, generally, if you are not put off by it, then it's all good. I tried the OREgasmic GYO last night and was thinking that this would be an other overindulgent attempt to "show off" their home-made ingredients. In fact, this "wet hop" ale is malt heavy, with hops only slightly adding to the body (because the AAs are usually harder to extract on wet hops, which means you'll need to add more to get the desired IBU, but in turn adding body), a very slight earthy taste, and a touch of bitterness that hits upfront and in the aftertaste. The malt body is the shining star here, with a sweet pop right away that transforms into a sort of chocolate/toffee/peanut-butter candy bar toward the end.

Every sip makes me want another. This beer is happy, sweet, slightly bitter in just the right places (like a good piece of dark chocolate), balanced, and pleasant through and though. Very impressed and may just run to Sam's Quick Shop to grab a bunch before they go away from Durham forever.

22oz bottle into a Hopus glass pours a crisp bubbly dark orange with a nice frothy khaki head that lasts as a thin layer and leaves decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is some crisp citrus hops and mild sweet malts. The taste is a decent kick of citrus hops with some very sweet malts coming through in the finish. The beer is on the light side of medium with decent carbonation. This one was a decent wet hop ale, but not likely one I'll have again.

22 ounce bottle - $5.49 at Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clouded, light mahogany-hued body with an off-white cap of suds on top.

Smell: Dry, day-old biscuits tops with mellow notes of tired spices, oranges, and, well, that's about it. It's a pretty mild aroma, really.

Taste: Biscuity, bready malted barley accentuated with a touch of toasted grains and a modest sweetness. Apricot fruitiness early on. Earthy spiciness, very slight leafiness, and a pinch of citric orange zest from the hops with ample bitterness. Mild yeastiness of Rogue's house strain throughout. Final, brief displays of biscuit crumbs and a bit of cooked sugars before the spicy, earthy finish. Very mild bitterness lingering into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-light, soft carbonation.

Drinkability: As with the other GYO brews, it's reasonably decent, albeit simplistic and straight-forward, though the Dirtoir Black Lager was pretty tasty. So far, a batting average of .200 for the series.

Got this beer on a whim thinking it was the First Growth Creek Ale. Still good to try at 2 bucks for a 5oz sample.

A - Pours a light amber in color with a nice bit of foamy head. According to notes it had a nice bit of lacing sticking to the sides of the sample glass.

S - Wow that smells earthy! I get some mild citrus hops in the back as well.

T - Wow this would have to be the maltiest wet hop ale I ever had but it's not bad! I get a strong earthy malt along side of a balanced citrus hop base. I could maybe detect cherry but it maybe in my head thinking it was the other rogue ale.

M - It was definitely medium bodied. I was able to get his one down third so an easy drinker.

D - Not something I would seek out or pay for elsewhere (8.75 a bomber?!?! F-that!) but it was really cool to try for around 2 bucks. Still I prefer my wet hop ales well... more hoppy. Good overall.

Poured into an Imperial pint glass.

A - Excellent deep amber/carmel coloring. Creamy 2- finger thick long-lasting head yielded a good amount of lacing.

S - Smell is delicate but lovely. Malty sweetness with a fresh, citrus hop aroma.

T - I liked this APA. It was fresh tasting, not as hoppy as some, not as cloying as some.

M - Light body, not overly carbonated, light and refreshing on the tongue.

D - I find this a very nice, drinkable APA. I enjoyed it!

This american pale ale pours a hazy bien color with not much head at all. The aroma is Rey week and consists of some citrusy hops. The taste begins with some matly sweetness and the finishes with a citrusy hop bitterness that hits you in the mouth... More IPA flavor. The mouthfeel is good although slightly over carbonated. Overall a good beer I think... And organic!

A- Pour is a hazed amber. Small off white head, retention is decent, modest lacing.

S- Aroma is very earthy and herbal. Fresh cut grass and perhaps a bit citrusy. Nice mix of sweet and bready malt.

T- The hops really don't come through until the end, fairly balanced. The malt flavor is mainly bready. Different tastes going on with the hops, it's grassy, earthy, peppery, piney & citrusy. There's almost a sweet sugary fruit taste in here as well. A decent hop bite that carries on the palate for awhile.

M- Body feels fairly full for an APA, carbonation is average. Dry finish.

D- It's alright, but not quite what I look for in an APA.

I've been drinking this beer all week and I'm still not exactly sure what I think of it. It's a pale ale but has a lot of interesting malt flavor, like an amber. Color is a very dark and cloudy amber brown. Head is usually very low but there is plenty of carbonation in the beer. The flavor is quite complex. It's definitely not a typical pale ale in flavor, with much more malt and tongue effect. I'm enjoying that this beer is at my local and i'll miss it when it's gone but I'm still not sure what I think.

Definitely try it.

On tap at the Flying Goat. Served in a pint glass.

Appearance is a rich copper color and hazy with a great foamy off white head.

Smell is faint with maybe a hint of malt.

Taste is malty but a bit off somehow. There is a stale bourbon flavor and a mild bitterness.

Mouthfee is OK. Medium body and clean.

Drinkable bit for the taste. I'll probably pass on having this again.

A - Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Dark amber, almost brown color. A good inch of dirty white head. Lots of bubbles. Not quite transparent.

S - Very fragrant. Sharp citrus and softer floral smells.

T - Moderate hop bitterness. The different flavors of the hops roll over my tongue in waves. The malt and hops battle it out at first with some nice sweetness followed by the bitterness... and then more hops. It is quite nice.

M - Going towards a softer feeling. Not as carbonated as all the bubbles suggested; moderate carbonation and body.

D - Very drinkable. I would have to concentrate but I think I can taste each of the five different hops as they flow across my tongue. Great use of the hops without going into the "hop bomb" mode.

22oz bomber poured into a pint.

A- Nothing amazing here. Muted caramel color, almost a tan hue to it. Did pour with a surprising amount of head given its a pale at heart.

S- Misses the mark here. For a wet hop ale I was expecing to get kicked in the face with fresh hop aroma. Next to nil. This would be expected if I had sampled this late in the season but two months after bottling isn't enough time to completely wipe out the fresh hop. Very dissapointing as this is the raison d etre for these beers.

T- No fresh hop oils to tickle your pallet here either. Comes across unbalanced and a little too malty.

M- No problems with mouthfeel, good carbonation. Finishes very clean, typical Rogue style.

D- Its drinkable, but it misses the point. Im quite dissappointed. Rogue usually crafts a supreme brew and is one of my favorite breweries but this misses the mark, especially since this is one of my favorite styles.

Amber color with a modest chill haze. Long lasting, but modest head. Leaves some large-bubbled lace on the side of the glass.

Surprisingly malty for a beer that emphasizes the hop on the label. The malt is similar to caramel. The hop is very muted to the nose.

The hop makes a decent showing on the taste profile, but the malt is very present resulting in a well-balanced beer. Very good body (meaning "full") with a lower than average carbonation. The hops provide enough bitterness to linger a long time in the aftertaste.

Very attractive clear copper ale, with moderate activity and head that fades fast.

Deeply floral and slightly fruity with a surprising nip of booze and some malty sweetness. Enjoyable.

Malty sweetness is prominent and the hop flavor is subdued. Very balanced and only vaguely bitter. Super smooth.

Smooth, creamy, medium body and viscosity, clean finish.

Super clean, smooth and easy drinking. I really enjoyed this one, though I am more of an IPA/DIPA kind of guy when it comes to pale ales. I probably caught it in just the right mood. It didn't strike me as exceptional, or anything to write home about. But it was well made and probably hit the mark for what they were trying to do.

22 ox bottle, no freshness date.

Pours a dark amber copper red with a slow rising 1 finger head that holds tight and laces modestly.

Smells pretty balanced for a beer that's supposed to be showcasing "wet hops". slight bitter hop presence with more of a rounded caramel malt profile.

Taste is a bit off to me for some reason. Strong hop bitterness with almost no flavour and a big malt backbone that makes this ale a bit thick.

Full bodied with moderate carbonation and a creamy tongue coating finish.

Drinkability was okay but for the 6% or so ABV it drank more like a 10% ABV with the thickness aspect. I probably will not seek this offering out again but i would drink it if offered to me.
