Draft pour into a shaker pint at Beachwood BBQ.

A: Clear, dark maple with less than one finger of diminishing off-white foam head. No lacing remains on the glass.

S: Very nutty with some toast and complex spiciness.

T: Begins with caramel and some toffee, followed by a burst of acidity and a hint of solvent complexity. Finishes slightly nutty with no detectable bitterness.

M: Light-medium viscosity, pleasantly creamy on the palate, with light carbonation.

D: This beer represents a welcome experiment with one of Rogue's most signature flavors. That said, it does not enhance the flavor of their hazelnut brown so much as simply alter it. Followers of the original should seek this out for the sake of comparison, while wood enthusiasts may find themselves let down. This beer is interesting compared to other American browns, and it doesn't sacrifice drinkability, but just be warned that it is not extreme, so much as slightly unusual.

A - Brown ale with a nice tan head. Head disappeared pretty quickly leaving no traces of lacing. Slightly cloudy but no sediment floating around.

S - Hazelnut, strong booze, brown sugar. Smells sour/tart with a lot of booze.

T - I sincerely hope this isn't supposed to taste like hazelnut vinegar. Yuck. I'm hoping this is an old bottle or something because this is disgusting. Not much else to say, I wish there was a positive because I really am a Rogue fan.

M - Sour on the tongue. Bitter beer face!!!

O - Not sure if what I got in the bottle was the intended flavor or not, but if it was it's one of the worst beers I've ever had.

Bomber poured into a pint glass.

Appearance- Caramel Brown color with white head.

Smell- Rum, toasted nut, toffee, and sweet malt.

Taste- I get a caramel nutty flavor up front followed by mellow rum notes. Works so well together. I wish there was more rum barrel aged beers to go along with bourbon barrel aged beers.

Mouthfeel- A light medium which is just a tad bit on the watery side.

Overall- Very complex flavors and smells makes for a solid beer.

A - Looks to be a deep brown, clear with amber tint. Head is minimal with a mild lace ring creamy and opaque in color.

S - Strong vanilla, mild nut, and Hazelnut. Caramel malts as well.

T - Sweet, subtle and balanced. Not sure why the low rating or even lower ABV (can rum barrel aging do that?) Light nut taste, balanced vanilla sweetness and some brown malt/hops in the finish.

M - My only complaint is more body. Session able ABV and barrel aged make for a light beer. Kind of chewy though.

Overall far from terrible and quite good. My second pour lead to more head so it's plenty carbonated for being old (got from the House of 1,000 beers for 5 bucks)

Worth trying if you love the regular version.
