Pours a deep, murky copper to brown with a huge two finger pillow like tan head which takes its time dissipating to leave a thin lacing in its wake.

Big piney hops with chocolate and earthy malt as well as faint candy sweetness highlight the aroma.

The flavor consists of caramel malt, more pine hops, as well as a bitterer earthy hop, perhaps sweet nuts, but most importantly, and the hop/malt combo is nicely balanced.

A little bit of a bitter bite, medium in body, medium to moderate carbonation, and a little on the dry side.

Overall, a very enjoyable beer, with its work cut out for it against so many greats in its style. Certainly worth a try, not likely something I will go out of my way for again though.

The beer pours a murky reddish/ burnt orange color with a frothy. thick, offwhite head. It smells like a caramel candy covered in milk chocolate with just a hint of citrusy hops in the background. The taste is more about the hops than the malt. I detected a good amount of grapefruit and orange peel up front with some caramel malt in the middle and a nice bitter finish. It has a medium body with moderate carbonation and a slightly dry finish. I liked this beer and would drink it again but thought the flavor could of been more balanced with the malt and hops, the malt really took a backseat in the taste test.
