A clouded golden orange body forms semi clouded/unfiltered especially for a standard IPA out there. I like the difference stats on the bottle weight in with what I like about this beer...including Amarillo hops and labradors on the label. Quite the combination for me anyways damn fine beer. the lacing is left behind in big chunky patterns that are outright brilliant for the appeaance of any single IPA that comes to mind. Aromatics bring out strong citrus grapefruit components just read my Integrity IPA review and it should mirror this one pretty well, considering it's basically the same recipe. Flavor brings a nice bready pac man yeast balance amongst the strong hoppy characteristics adding to the party in the best way possible, quickly one of my favorite IPAs on the market I'm glad friends let me in on this secret. Always my favorite when it was a seasonal release called Integrity thank god it became one of the regular players in their lineup I can even get this beer in West Virginia...although it's most expensive in PA. OH has been good about 5.99 a bomber. Mouthfeelis medium to fuller bodied hop oils galore nice and slick on the palate a beer I'd drink everyday if I could. Go forth and prosper my favorite IPA should be people's white whale but in this case it's probably a beer you already now about and overlook, go figure go drink and enjoy this brew.

Personaly I love this beer ... High IBU brewed beers are not for everyone, especially if you are not used to them. Rogue has a special touch to the beers they make! ....I am a home brewer and would love to make this kind of beer.

Very nice golden color, very good aroma ... malt hop ballanced well concidering the high hop addition. Great hop flavor, ...don't plan on drinking any other kind of beer after this one, you won't really taste it!

If you like "Ruination, Hop Slam, ...ect, you will like this one!

Pours a glowing tangerine haze with a spackle-like meringue on top. The entire glass is coated in the tailings of this mighty, everlasting head. The aroma is sweet and fruity, with a tropical, pineappley front section and some sweet pale malts in the back. The taste is an assault of bitter, fruity hops. There's plenty of astringent grapefruit rind and flesh, pineapple, lemon, melon, apple and other fruit flavors that dont seem to be coming from the yeast. Pine flavors are more restrained than the average hop bomb but its a refreshing change. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and mouthcoating with sweet lupulin. The finish is very bitter and incredibly long lasting.

This is a benmchmark American IPA. It has loads of hops but also massive complexity and balance. Worth a try for sure.

Poured from 22 oz. Bottle into my pilsner.

Poured beautifully, with a nice one inch head. The pour was pretty careful, so as to not disturb the considerable sediment inside. Hazy honey amber. Pretty.

Wonderful on the nose. There's a light swell of malt, but mostly a twang of citrus, lemony with a few drops of grapefruit. The flavor is delightful. Nicely balanced....right up until the first mouthful is on its way through the out door, bound for different clubs the deeper regions of the body. Right about then, a hulking beast of hops emerges from the shadows and goes apeshit all over everything and everyone in its path. Malt flavors are running about like goats on fire, ducking for cover to avoid the debris, sent cartwheeling through the air by the hopmonster's wrath. On all sides, the cacophony rages. To the right, it's a deluge of shattering glass, and on the left, theres a thud and clatter of a body crashing through a lounge table. Then, in a moment, all is still...and you take another drink...

...so, there's a decent kick of bitterness on the finish, in other words.

Mouthfeel is nice. nice and soft.

I could drink these crazy beers all night. In fact, the current one might have already affected my review...

A+, but only just.

Edit 1/10/10:
2009 version is also awesome! Had it on draft too this year. Increasing taste to 5.

Original Review:
Yellow Snow IPA I purchased mainly because I had seen some beer advocate buzz about it, and being an IPA lover, I had to check it out.

Comes in a typical Rogue bomber, the appearance eshews traditional paper labels and uses burnt on images (usually featuring a real person..an idol, or a collaborator, or a Rogue employee, or maybe a cariature of one)....creative of Rogue to go this route with their bottle appearances, IMO.

Appearance is a "Tang" colored orange with nice puffy off white foam. Typical to IPA style.

Aroma is mainly citrus fruits: melon, grapefruit, orange, maybe apple... with a hint of piney mint resin.

Taste is awesome...the hops are piney bitterness and zesty grapefruit. Puckery! mmmm

Excellent choice for me being a hophead...best beer I have ever had from Rogue!

22oz bottle purchased at McKinnon's in Salem. Pours a hazy golden-yellow body with nearly an inch of persistent off-white head that leaves some extremely decent lacing. Grapefruit and lemon assault the nose initially with some pithy notes too. Very fruity/citrussy in the flavor too. Lemon, orange, and grapefruit. Tastes like biting into an orange or grapefruit. Malt isn't immediately noticeable, though there's just enough to not make this one not overly bitter. Lighter than expected on the mouthfeel - alcohol is completely hidden on all counts. Very drinkable. A really stellar unique IPA - a total citrus bomb without any astringency or competition from malt or other flavors. Really good.

Creamy and smooth with a big white head. Lots of lacing and sticky foam all down the glass. Fantastic Amarillo hop taste and aroma. What an American IPA should be. Nice malt backbone. I could drink this one all day long. Even at $5.75 for a 22 oz. I would buy it again.

Had a craving for a hops overdose, so I swung by the liquor store and grabbed a dozen of the biggest, hoppiest looking brews on the shelf. This was one of them (was tempted to go for the 1/2 gallon growler, but settled on two 22oz bombers instead).

Pours a hazy pale gold, with a moderate but very dense foamy head.

Smells phenomenal. Dry malty, slightly grassy with a balanced presentation of dry hop character. Some faint candy-like esters behind those hops.

Taste is exquisite - there's a nice nutty dry-maltiness to it with some bread-crust toastiness. The hops, however, immediately begin to dominate the palate with a very crisp bitterness and lots of grapefruit-like astringency and big citrus flavour. The bitterness isn't overpowering, and is nicely balanced with the malt and fruitiness. The balance creates the impression of a beer that's much bigger than this one actually is, at 6.5% ABV. This beer is very, very dry, but the herbal fruitiness of the hops makes it seem slightly sweet.

Mouthfeel is gratifyingly full. Carbonation is kept relatively low to showcase the hops.

This beer is big, and leaves behind a lot of hop character which diminishes the overall quaffability, but the crisp dry edge and clean maltiness keep you coming back for more.

Pours yellow with a thick, long lasting head. It is hoppy, and you know it, but not without being too overbearing. I would call it well balanced, and mellows a bit. There is perhaps a bit of citrus fruit in there, some might say a subtle touch of spice, I think just a snip of citrus. Very smooth mouthfeel with an easy aftertaste. I also award it points for a funny name, and entertaining bottle. These are underrated qualities in a beer.

A- Such a perfect presentation- I could not believe this- a pefect head in a pefect colored glass.

S- Pefect IPA smell

T- The key word describing this IPA is "fresh" It tastes like it is straight out of a frozen lake

M- pefectcly smooth

D- If you are in the right spirit; you can drink 5 or 6 of these without a problem!

Deep, hazy golden in color, with a big, rocky head of foam

A: Beautiful gold color, super cloudy, perfect head retention and lacing. Absolutely brilliant.

S: Rich brown sugar, lots hops, some citrus, pretty grainy. All signs of a good IPA.

T: Grain hits you first, then brown sugar and hops are full on, citrus is subdued more than other IPAs, which lets you focus on the hops more. Really good and refreshing, not too sweet at all. Nice toasted malt flavor too - a bit like burned toast - sticks with you after swallowing. Very good overall.

M: In between dry and oily - a good balance. Medium body, good carbonation, just a tad astringent.

D: This goes down so easily. A great IPA for someone who's thirsty.

Yellowish-orange in color with a light haze. Poured with a thick white head that left behind a healthy white cap and ample wet lacings. Aromas and flavors are very similar. Intense citrus grapefruitand lemon with a solid sweet malty backbone. A light pine hoppiness combines with the citrus hop flavors at the finish. The bitter aftertaste is light and doesn't linger. This IPA was smooth with a light creaminess and and went down easily. Instantly one of my favorites.

A- Lets a bit of light through it's copper colored body that gets a darker amber tone in the center. Very orange. The head is big and foamy and leaves an intricate web of lacing

S- Light, earthy, biscuit-like smells shine through in the aroma and there is a hint sweetness that makes me think of apricot.

T- Not as bitter as a 70 IBU IPA would lead you to believe it is. I guess amarillo hops impart a bitterness that is more similar to the tartness of tropical fruits and perhaps apricots. I would call this a balanced IPA.

M&D- Very smooth from the mini-keg with a medium body and frothy carbonation. MAy have some problems keeping this mini-keg around for more than a couple days.

Another fine IPA. Served in a clear pint glass.

Very nice golden orange colour, cludy, with a very thin head.

Very good nose of carmel and malt

Citrus start to the taste finshed with a generous hit of hops that lingers for a decent amount of time.

Round mouthfeel.

An over all favorite to add to my IPA list..

Poured into nonic pint...

A: a slightly hazy golden amber brew with a full, foamy head that leaves webbed lacing down the glass as the head slowly, very slowly, dissipates.

S: banana nut bread, caramel, grassy aromas, and spices. Very nice change from the standard citrus and floral aromas of most AIPAs

T: rich flavors of spicy citrus, banana, biscuit flavors. finishes with pine sap, pepper, grapefruit peel, and earthy flavors. Has a unique, almost honey-like sweetness upfront and through the finish that balances perfectly with the hop flavors.

M: a medium full body with a chewy entry that leaves the mouth slightly dry and with a nice hop tingle that doesn't over do it.

Overall, this is a most interesting AIPA. The aroma, flavor, and texture are all unique to this beer. It has great balance. Bitterness of hops with delicately sweet malt flavors. This is an extraordinary brew that I will be looking for again.

Pours a cloudy pale gold, like liquid yellow copper, with a frosting like white creamy head. Very hazy. It smells of clover and mint, with a hint of tangerine. Very floral and hoppy. First drink is an explosion of hops. Bitter at first and then opening up with delicious layers of citrus, sweet grass and melon. Very significant and satisfying in the mouth. Very drinkable, but not for the faint at hop.

Appearance- Pours a hazy orange beer with a high sudsy head.

Smell-Pungent, sweet, citrus and floral aromas. Like a fruit punch.

Taste-Mineral crispness from open to close. Wonderfully balanced between citrus and pine of hops and a light and lively malt backbone.

Mouthfeel-Clearly by design, but thin bodied for an IPA. Very refreshing and would be great in the summer.

Drinkability-About as drinkable as an IPA gets.

I believe this is a great session IPA that is underrated by the masses. Throw a Russian River label on the bottle and this thing is cultish.

A- Hazy blonde. Strong lacing. Appears innocent enough.

S - Strong grassy notes, little citrus. Not overwhelming but you can tell up front this should be a solid IPA. Big pine needle undertone which hits the toungue as well.

T - Surprisingly hoppy IPA with a clean and strong hop presence without being overwhleming. Hits the front of your tounge ealry and lingers. Solid grassy notes with a strong pine kick that doesn't quit..

M - Tight carbonation, clearly a well made beer. Sits in the mouth like an IPA should.

D- This thing is imminently sessionable, yet still interesting.

Appearance - pours a hazy translucent tangerine. A thick finger of flat, white cream sets up, meringue-ish. A nice flow of bubbles from the bottom of the glass. Excellent shiny, sticky lace.

Aroma - fresh piny, grapefruit smell. Pure and simple.

Taste - a light crackery, caramel grain base. Spicy, spicy hops, intense grapefruit and pine. Not extremely resiny but very flavorful. Grapefruit rind on the swallow, with a tight, dry and lengthy bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - extremely full feeling, lucious and creamy. The first mouthful seemed to expand in volume. Oily smoothness is right on.

Drinkability - an outstanding beer from Rogue.

As a huge fan of Rogue Ales, I had really wanted to try this brew for a while... Just recently saw it in my area... Glad I found it... One of the better Rogue beers I've sampled... Very well-balanced, great hop profile that was not over done or cloying in the least bit... Flavors were subtle, yet definitely apparent, rendolent of fresh citrus and grapefruit...

The coloring of the beer was really fascinating - after I poured it all into a tall cold glass, the beer got progressively darker as it neared the top of the class. Perhaps this is to be a reflection of different types of "ink" used for said yellow snow. Whatever it was, it was nice to look at and the beer had a great frothy head, which I really appreciated. Grapefruit, potent (but not overwhelming) hops dominate the nose of this IPA. There are some other floral aromas, but they are much more subtle. The beer tasted deliciously smooth - the hops are prominent, but well blended as not to cause your toenails to curl. Expect some citrus and hints of sourness, as well. The body was lighter than I would expected. I would pick this one up again and I just saw growlers of this at Kelly's the other day, so go pick one up and share with the whole fam damnly.

Appearance - 5.0/5.0 - darkens as it goes up the glass - light golden to darker gold, just like if I wanted to write my name in the snow, frothy head
Smell - 4.0/5.0 - grapefruit, potent hops, but not overpoweringly so, lightly floral
Taste - 4.5/5.0 - really deliciously smooth hop, some citrus, mid sour - really tasty
Feel - 4.5/5.0- smooth, mild sour aftertaste
Drinkability - 4.5/5.0 - mmm mmm good - definitely would have again, very well blended

A: Pours a murky yellow color with light carbonation. The head is thick and clings slightly to the glass as its drank.

S: Lots of citrus upfront followed by a hint of floral. A little alcohol comes through in the nose at the end.

T: Hops and definitely lemon in the first part of the taste. The malt holds its ground but you really have to look for it - has a nice nutty flavor to it. Residue of alcohol is left behind along with a bite of citric acid. Tasty.

M: carbonation is detectable along with an oily texture from the hop oils.

D: Very easy to take this one down in a night. The citrus is a great addition to the pine essence of the hops. I highly recommend this one.
