Sampled from a 12oz bottle. A little to cold at first, as with most porters, stouts, etc much better server at 60 degrees plus, otherwise both the smells and tastes are a bit muted. But when this baby warms up, look out.

Poured a pitch black, can you say oil, black gold, Texas Tea, midnight. The used oil out of your car isn't this black. The pour creates an inch thick beige head that fades fairly quickly to leave a mountain range of lacing and a quick swirl recreates a small canopy head.

The nose of malt, cocoa, and coffee. Fresh roasted coffee beans anyone? You can smell this aroma train coming for miles.

Taste of coffe, semi-sweet chocolate, and roasted malt. Wonderful and complex. This is coffee and chocolate and wow. Truly magnificent. Rouge does it again, and again, and again.

Black with ruby highlights with a nice solid brown colored head, nice carbonation, and some lace. Aromas of "Chocolate covered hops". Big chocolate and espresso-like flavors with a nice hop balance; nicely bittersweet. Medium bodied and smooth which is not surprising considering the bold flavors.

Very nicely balanced bitterweet chocolate, espresso, and hop flavors - Excellent!

pours out dark as night and a nice looking tan head develops which sticks around to the end of the glass. i worked up the sediment left at the bottom of the bottle and added that to my glass also. smell is a delight of roasted coffee, chocolate, and hops. the first thing i thought of after smelling it and taking the first few sips was how similar it is to summit great northern porter of st. paul mn. but after having a few more sips i'd say this is a bit more complex and a just a bit smoother. taste is a combo of bittersweet chocolate and hops with some vague coffee notes that linger on the palate quite a long time after consuming. bitter beer face never made me smile so big!

Mocha Porter pours just about opaque... just about. I had to look three times for the filament of the torch before I at last found it dimly making its way through the blackness of onyx red. Head is massive, brown, and with small dense bubbles that are leaving a tapestry of foam rather than mere foam lace down the sides of my glass.

The nose of dry and fresh fruit and nut, that can be found in a most pleasant way. pecan, spicy pear, with dried fig, an analogy would be as if one where passing by a candy factory.

It is as I have feared... rather than I being the consumer of the fluid, this fluid is consuming me. I am over taken by the intensity, the shear power of all the flavors. Espresso, burnt malt, and a fruity citrus, followed by bitter chocolate. After glow from the alcohol is very apparent along with a drying from the pleasant bitter hops.

Rogue Mocha Porter is a Brew to seek out... but please use caution, as this Brew will try to seduce you!

Cask conditioned at Sharp Edge Beer Emporium
A: Pours a brown so dark it's almost black. Opaque. Nice khaki~tan head with nice lacing.
S: Dark roasted malt aromas with a heady whiff of a strong bitter coffee smell. Sweet dark molasses. Wow.
T: Smooth malts perfectly balanced by a touch of hops and a strong coffee taste with just a hint of dark chocolate. Nicely lingering bitter aftertaste.
M: So smooth it should be a crime. Smooth and creamy with a heavenly mouthcoating feel. Alcohol is just wonderfully warming.
D&N: Cask conditioned beers are like heaven in a glass. This beer had it all, great smells, great flavors, unbelievable mouthfeel. Heaven in a glass.

A: Murky brown, almost black, color. Tan head of 2 fingers, stays solid and laces beautifully. One of the best looking beers I've tried.

S: Very strong roasted coffee malt smell with a background of flowering hops and chocolate. A little skunky, but otherwise perfect.

T: Oh man, this is a delicious beer. Very sweet beginning with chocolate and coffee flavors dominant. Alcohol is undetectable. Second flavor is flowering hops, which are very good and consistent throughout the Rogue Brewery beers. There is coffee bitterness all throughout the aftertaste, but the chocolate sticks around as well. Slight breadyness in the end as well. Perfect.

M: Medium-heavy bodied. Slightly astringent, but not anything to complain about - it goes well with the coffee bitterness. Almost too carbonated for my taste, but still great.

D: I've already drank half of this, which is rare for me when I'm finishing a review. I could easily drink 2 or 3 of these in a sitting.

What a wonderful beer! The Mocha Porter poured a very dark brown, almost black color with a nice creamy tan head. The smell lured me in and was full of chocolate and malt. The flavor was great and had a bit of sweetness from the chocolate and malt in the front and finnished with a slight hoppy/coffee like bitterness. I really liked the mouthfeel as well as it was not too thick and had just the right ammount of carbonation. If you like Porters, this one will rise to the top of your list.

If you like coffee and dark malty beer, try this one! I loved it....

12 Ounce bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearence: Pours dark, with a medium to small tan head.

Smell: Heavy malt aroma, coffee bean presence, didn't really notice any hop presence in the smell. As someone else said unsweeted chocolate.

Taste: I wanted a coffee porter and Rogue delivered exactly what I wanted. I found the taste to be exceptional, this being one of my most favorite styles. Heavy coffee after-taste, and roasted malty sweetness. Slight bittering hops presence.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, crisp.

Drinkability: I went through the six pack and was craving more.

The initial pur proved a wonderful head, with a very nice smell. After a few sniffs through the nose I couldn't wait to sample the obvious malt, coffee and chocolate smell. Such a smooth porter...I enjoyed this one so much and is a great hit from rogues. very tasty from start to finish, even as it warms up. a must try...smoooth is the operative word.

On-tap into pint glass @ Birreria Paradiso in DC.

Pitch black with a one finger light brown head. Rings of solid lacing along the glass. Lots of roasted malts and some mocha coffee bean. Burnt malt in the flavor, along with some bitter chocolate. The mocha coffee makes a pretty strong presence. There is an overall creaminess to the beer in the background. Full bodied.

Quite an enjoyable porter, and the mocha is a nice touch. Probably the gold standard of mocha porters. Recommended.

On my 4th of six of these beauties and they keep getting better. Pours a dark bubly midnight black color with a soft pillowly tan head. I could smell the roasted coffee and subtle chocolate aroamas from across the room ! Taste was very rich roasted coffee, sweet chocolate undertones.Very crisp finish, leaves you wanting another taste. Very well carbonated and fresh tasting. Smooooooooth and silky feel. A really refreshing and tasty beer. Another winner from Rogue. How do they: 1. Ship it so far, 2. Sell it so cheap, and 3. Make it taste so good ? I will never know.........

This is a porter for those that love the dark side of brewing. An obsidian body absorbs light like a black hole, but perched on top is a generous brown frothy head that lingers for awhile before it reduces to a nice thick collar on the inside of the glass. The smell alerts you to the alcohol hidden in the murky depths of this porter, with a nice rounded aroma of hops and roasted chocolates. The taste is sublime: rich with roasted malts, a sweet finish and well-balanced hop bitterness. The beer has some heft as well, making it a perfect porter for a long lingering drinking session once the weather turns chilly.

This exotic treat pours a dark, hearty red with a heroic, creamy tan head that sticks around till the bitter (and I do mean bitter) end. Smells of burnt toasty malts and dark coffee, followed by caramel sweetness and finally a creamy/bitter finish. The taste is certainly complex and lives up to this beer's moniker. Tall bitterness and roasty flavors hit first before mellowing out into a distinctive sweet creaminess that cooperates with a serious dose of tasty hops for a taste that lingers long. The mouthfeel is chewy and, in my estimation, perfect for a porter. What carbonation there is adds a nice dimension. The drinkability is fantastic, but this is certainly an indulgence for me. If any beer can be called "breakfast beer", this is the one.

Pertinent Preliminary Comments: Rogue beers have simply failed to disappoint me – they’re one of the breweries that consistently puts out brews that I think are outstanding. Even Odell Brewing, makers of my beloved 90 shilling, doesn’t fall into that category.

APPEARANCE: Black with cola brown highlights. Head is thick and tan, and leaves wonderful lacing on the sides of the glass as the head clears.

AROMA: Coffee and chocolate are strongest with a generous dose of hops. Somehow reminds me of Ovaltine and Frappucinos…

FLAVOR: Another rare beer that tastes just like it smells, but even more so. Cold coffee in front, malted chocolate milk on the sides, a little bitterness in the middle and a finish that is somehow both dry and sweet at the same time. Wonderful aftertaste; there’s something about it that reminds me of the way a breath mint makes your mouth feel after you’ve finished it. What a fun beer to drink!

MOUTHFEEL: Medium weight, good carbonation level.

DRINKABILITY: This is such an interesting beer to drink that I’d probably be happy if that’s all there was in the fridge for a week! Goes down waaay faster than I’d like.

OVERALL COMMENTS: Simple, elegant, balanced, flavorful, nothing cloying, nothing distracting, nothing to complain about… leaves me to wonder sometimes: Can Rogue do no wrong? KILLER brew, folks!

Pours deep red brown, with a dollop of fluffy dark tan head.

Coffee and caramel dominate the smell. A nice ruby red grapefruit hoppiness.

Sweet chocolate flavors up front, blend into an astringent roast flavor. Ends with a sharp bitter roast.

Full bodied, very nice beer. Easy to drink and full of flavor.

22 oz bomber bottle. Dark brown body with ruby highlights. Huge, mountainous tan head. Coffee and chocolate with hint of hops hiding in back in an apt description of both the aroma and taste. Starts down smooth, but there is a hop tickle at the end, to be expected from Rogue. This is a great porter. I'll say good night and finish the bottle over a good book.

One of the best porters I have ever had. Looks great. Dark and rich with tan head. Smells chocolatety and taste of coffee and dark chocholate. The mouthful is the same as the taste. Not the best tasting, but it is very smooth for a crisp flavor if you like both chocolate and coffee. Could drink several of these beers as it smooth and creamy.

Pours a nearly opaque ebony color with a thick tan head (veering a bit too close to Stout territory).

Roasted malt and hops combine on the nose to give an inviting coffee-like aroma.

The mouthfeel is just wonderful with significant amounts of caramel to balance all that roast malt. It finishes dry with slight chocolate and raisin notes.

Just superb overall.

Went to a semi-local pub and with about a fifteen beers on tap and I went for the Rogue handle. The current Rogue selection was the Mocha Porter.

The porter served up dark brown with a thin head and some lacings. The smell was sweet and chocolatey and malty. The taste was exceptional and satisfying ... delicious.

The mouthfeel was very smooth and creamy, and it and so easy to drink, that I ordered a second. This beer fills up the belly, and would be great as a main course in itself, or nice as a desert beer.

A-very dark brown, almost black with a good amount of dark tan head. has some nice lacing as well.

S-smells like ground coffee but mostly malty. it has medium strength

T-it honestly tastes like dark roasted fresh ground coffee in liquid form. In and out it keeps this great taste. The after-taste is matching. Every part of this strong flavored and lacks any poor qualities. I don't care much for Rogue brews but I am honestly quite happy with this! this might be one of the best, full bodied porters that I've had.

M-this has a good creamy, medium carbonation with a fairly dry finish.

D-Well I'll definitely have this again and I'll definitely bring this up anytime porters are mentioned. I could drink this all night long. Well done Rogue!

I can't say enough good things about this beer. I had it from a pint glass. The appearance was great. Nice and dark, with a solid mocha colored head. The taste was amazing. Every mouthful was full of flavor, and went down smooth. I could drink it all day...and have lol. Run out and get some today.
