Pours black with a reddish hue, thick coffee colored head, and nice lacing. Roasted aroma with hints of dark (bittersweet) chocolate and coffee. Could be fuller bodied, a little less on the tounge then expected. Different flavors hint you on the first sip, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, hop citrusness. Finishes dry with some hop bitterness and a nice aftertaste. Another quality brew from the boys and Rogue!

Mocha Porter
The head was thick and tan full of flavor.
Color was dark brown with an almost redish tint.
Body was cloudy dark almost swamp like.
Taste was good kind of rosted malt with chocolat flavor.
A little too strong of mocha flavor for me!

A definate Porter that demands some consideration.

The color is a deep ebony with a tight, dark caramel head. It seems to be a bit darker than the Porters I am accustomed to...not that this is a bad thing. Just a point of interest.

This porter has a snappy, bitter, cocoa flavor. The complexity is really brought to the forefront when the bitterness of citrus and the cocoa flavors collide...now I can somewhat understand why people like orange chocolate. (I once thought that a private hell should be reserved for such enjoyment...heh)

However, it is a bit too far on the hoppy side for my personal liking...it's a bit on the side of "sensory overload". I enjoy it and it has a good quality to it...but if it was toned down just a notch, it would be excellent. The aftertaste hangs around a little bit too long. Maybe my judgement is a bit premature...I should probably have another one...:)

I think a nice food pairing with this brew would be something gamey. If not, hold off until the end of the night and have it to compliment a yummy slice of turtle cheesecake.

Pours with an enormous head. So large that I could not pour the entire 12 oz bottle into a pint glass in one pour. After waiting a few minutes for the head to dissipate, I finished the pour. The head retention on this beer is great as well. I enjoyed the rocky, dark tan head for several minutes, and it left a very thick lace on the glass and kept a fairly thick ring around the edge of the glass througout the entire beer. The body of the beer is dark brown. The aroma is of sweet chocolate and some coffee notes mixed with a hint of hops aroma. The taste is a kaleidescope of flavors that seemed to change with every sip. From bitter hops, to dark chocolate, to coffee, to roasted malt, then sweet chocolate. This beer had very complex flavors that were extremely enjoyable. The mouthfeel was good, but not a thick as I think the beer deserves, as a thicker mouthfeel may complement the wide array of flavors better. The drinkability is also fairly good. This is an enjoyable brew, even considering the over agressive head I experienced on the pour (which often times can be frustrating).

Just about black with a creamy light tan head that starts at about two fingers and settles down to about a quarter of that.
Quite a nice aroma, dominated by coffee-like scents of roasted malt. In the mouth, this beer is quite chewy and full bodied, amooth and creamy malt flavors, with a bitter, burnt aftertaste. A very decent beer.

Brown and thick on the opening head. Hints of coffee and chocolate on emitted from the chalice of goodness. Awsome rich flavor. Kinda coffeeish, kinda chocolaty, mostly porterish. Once again, Rogue has a great beer at my fingertips.

Very dark, a brown-black color with a creamy tan head. Citrusy hops in the aroma, followed by chocolate and coffee. In the taste, a crisp, rind-like hop bite with a chocolate and roasted malt/coffee backbone. Medium body, but good character. Excellent mouthfeel, smooth and creamy despite the hop bitterness. Clean malty finish. Great porter! Another top-notch job from Rogue.

Appearance: Creamy beige head that quickly dissipates. The body is dark brown-black.

Smell: Centennial hops is the only first impression. Looking beyond them there are dark roasted malts and some coffeish notes. Mocha? Not really.

Taste: Hoppy, coffeish, and even a bit of chocolate, in that order. Slightly burnt flavor from dark roasted malts that is spurred on by the hops.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and medium carbonation.

I bought a six-pack of this to try. At first I was a little disappointed in the, perhaps excessive, use of Cascade-like Centennial hops. They are too prominent and aromatic for the style in my taste and they are too readily available in the nose to allow any mocha aroma to come through (if there is any in there). As I've worked through the sixer I've learned to appriciate it for what it is though. Great accompaniment to a dessert such as an almond cake.

This Porter is made excellent by, maybe surprisingly, the hops. The roasted malt is very much akin to coffee, then add some chalky-chocolate. The hops are blended perfectly with the two. The bitterness is welcomed and the finish is dry and clean. Everything mentioned above really enables this beer to develop. Rogue’s Mocha Porter is darn tasty and highly drinkable!

The body is absolute black, dark tan head, lace from start to finish.

This Porter is flawless, I’d drink it again, and I’d recommend it too.

This is a porter for those that love the dark side of brewing. An obsidian body absorbs light like a black hole, but perched on top is a generous brown frothy head that lingers for awhile before it reduces to a nice thick collar on the inside of the glass. The smell alerts you to the alcohol hidden in the murky depths of this porter, with a nice rounded aroma of hops and roasted chocolates. The taste is sublime: rich with roasted malts, a sweet finish and well-balanced hop bitterness. The beer has some heft as well, making it a perfect porter for a long lingering drinking session once the weather turns chilly.

Dark as midnight on the pour, the head is light chocolate, the lace thick sheets that cling to the very end of the glass. Nose is malt, semi-sweet chocolate, a tad coffeeish. Front is sweet, the top is medium, the finish is nicely hopped, dry, moderately acidic, and still a decent porter that ranks in my top 25 porters. Ranks #289 on my current 1000 beer master list.

Mocha Porter pours just about opaque... just about. I had to look three times for the filament of the torch before I at last found it dimly making its way through the blackness of onyx red. Head is massive, brown, and with small dense bubbles that are leaving a tapestry of foam rather than mere foam lace down the sides of my glass.

The nose of dry and fresh fruit and nut, that can be found in a most pleasant way. pecan, spicy pear, with dried fig, an analogy would be as if one where passing by a candy factory.

It is as I have feared... rather than I being the consumer of the fluid, this fluid is consuming me. I am over taken by the intensity, the shear power of all the flavors. Espresso, burnt malt, and a fruity citrus, followed by bitter chocolate. After glow from the alcohol is very apparent along with a drying from the pleasant bitter hops.

Rogue Mocha Porter is a Brew to seek out... but please use caution, as this Brew will try to seduce you!

Very, very dark brown... black! The light tan head needs a little coaxing to bring it up, then dies fairly readily but leaves a decent collar & surface foam as well as some lace. The aroma is hoppy, chocolatey, and roasty. The body is medium with a gentle carbonation and a silkiness in the mouth. The flavor is hoppy up-front, followed by dark bittersweet chocolate and some limited cocoa, then a flash of hop flavor and a solid roastiness which leads to a dry finish. There's some lingering roastiness and an earthy/mineral character (probably from hops), as well as a very slight astringency which doesn't seem bothersome. The balance is definitely more towards roasty bitterness than malty sweetness! This is a beer that's best enjoyed at cellar temperature where it's full character can be appreciated. Very nice, but not spectacular, with alot of character and a moderate complexity. Makes a good pub pint.

Very deep amber / brown, with a quickly dissapating tan foam. Bitter and malty, with coffee and dark chocolate notes, and a slightly sour bite at the finish. Medium bodied, and low carbonation. Smooth drinking, and very pleasant.

This beer poured a very dark color, almost black and formed a nice huge medium tan sudsy head that left some nice lace as it subsided. It had an aroma of malt, coffee and lightly of chocolate. The flavor was of malt, coffee and some chocolate. The body was medium style and the finish was a touch astrigent with elements of the coffee.

Did I get a bad bottle? Black colour with an odd, jagged, tan, foamy head. A sharp floral/raw hop scent fills the nose. Very bitter and sharp, raw hop taste with a chocolate malt buried in the hops. Abrasive medium body.

Dry with a long, raw/oily aftertaste. A bad bottle? I hope so.

Excellent thick tan head and black opacity, with some sediment. The aroma was sweet maltiness with a hint of chocolate. The roasted malt and hint of chocolate flavor were outstanding, and the roasted malt came through even more as it warmed. The flavor was long-lasting and the carbonation gives a full mouthfeel with a smooth finish. Not quite as good as the Shakespeare, yet an excellent offering from the folks at Rogue.

Just bought a six pack of the stuff, very tasty. I smelled that Rogue aroma from a mile away like a police drug dog sniffing for coke.

Great American porter, nice how they got so close with the chocolate and coffee flavours. I would not mind seeing this beer more often.

Another one of those brews that sit on the stout/porter line. Besides the intense roasted barleyness, Mocha Porter has a serious hop finish that shouts Rogue. Creamy, but not heavy, this beer is a drinker for sure. try it with breakfast.

22 oz bomber bottle. Dark brown body with ruby highlights. Huge, mountainous tan head. Coffee and chocolate with hint of hops hiding in back in an apt description of both the aroma and taste. Starts down smooth, but there is a hop tickle at the end, to be expected from Rogue. This is a great porter. I'll say good night and finish the bottle over a good book.

On my 4th of six of these beauties and they keep getting better. Pours a dark bubly midnight black color with a soft pillowly tan head. I could smell the roasted coffee and subtle chocolate aroamas from across the room ! Taste was very rich roasted coffee, sweet chocolate undertones.Very crisp finish, leaves you wanting another taste. Very well carbonated and fresh tasting. Smooooooooth and silky feel. A really refreshing and tasty beer. Another winner from Rogue. How do they: 1. Ship it so far, 2. Sell it so cheap, and 3. Make it taste so good ? I will never know.........

This brew looks great -- almost pitch black, perhaps a bit too dark for its style, though. The smell exudes nice coffee tones, and the taste certainly is that of coffee, roasted malt and hops. I definitely like a little bitterness in my porters. It is still a bit sweet for a porter, perhaps, but it still does the trick. As far as drinkability is concerned, it is pretty easy drinking. This is, in my opinion, another excellent offering from the folks at Rogue.

Very dark, with a little yeast chunkiness. Nice multi-size-bubbled head, 1/4 of an inch of persistent dark foam. A sweetened coffee aroma -- no surprise there. Nice multi-dimensional taste, a warble between the java flavor and alternate notes of caramel and toffee. Very nice (a little overdone) hop acidity also adds to the complexity and balances impressively. Quite a handful in the mouth despite not very full body. Very good Porter to my tongue.

Virtually black in color, but when held to light this brew exhibits a deep garnet color and excellent clarity. The beige head is thick, rock and well retained. The combination of chocolate malt, dark caramel sweetness and toasty malt notes make the aroma quite appealing. A light citrusy hop nose is perceptible towards the end. The flavor is bittersweet overall. Caramel malt & residual sweetness hit the palette at first, but are ensued by mellow chocolate malt, a bit of deeply roasted black patent sharpness, and assertive but clean hop bitterness. The body is just a tad shy of providing a good foundation for the big flavors. It finishes w/ a strong roasted grain and hop bitterness, while a sugary sweetness lingers on the tip of the tongue. Mocha Porter is a unique and flavorful robust porter.

Fairly highly hopped offering from Rogue, which is not atypical for the brewery. Nice thick body with complex malty flavor. Not bad, but not as smooth as some.
