Rogue Ales Brewery really knows how to brew a good beer. I have yet to be disappointed from them. This beer has an almost overwhelming aroma and flavor of hazelnut which finishes with lighter flavors of coffee and chocolate. No complaints about this brew.

22oz. bottle from Manny Brown's Bensalem - Wow....love this beer. the Hazelnut flavor is perfectly balanced in this american brown ale. I reccomend this beer to people who are afraid of trying darker beers, and it has always gotten a good response. This is a brown ale that I rarely get tired of...

22 oz. bottle. picked this one up on my last visit to the brewery, a love of 'filberts' inspired me to try this brown.

pours deep amber with tall, soft tan head. the aroma is nutty-chocolate and coffee, very nice. taste at first is chocolate, smoke, coffee and toasted malt, balanced with light hops, almost no bitterness. a lingering coffee-hazelnut on the tongue.

i am not a big fan of browns, but this one is beyond any usual brown ale. for anyone who knows 'filberts' and enjoys a nice glass of beer, this is a must try.

22 oz bomber refrigerator temperature. Standard pint glass.

A - beautiful brown color, very dark, nearly opaque. poured a light head that lingered for a bit, but did fade. no lacing.

s - rich nutty smell, almost chocolately. full bodied but not overpowering.

t - by far the best part. the rogue tasted like creamy hazelnut the whole way down, finishing clean. after taste was muted but still notably nutty.

m - incredibly smooth, no acidity with almost a creamy nature. this brown ale left no bite, making it easy to gulp down at a dangerous rate.

d - i could drink ten of these a night if my body would allow it. this is becoming a hands down favorite. dangerously smooth and rich.

Pours a lovely, creamy head. Not super long-lasting, but nice.

Aroma reminds me of a bowl of cereal. Something like Barbara's Shredded Spoonfuls which we often have in our house. Not a super-aromatic beer.

Dark brown in the glass, had up the light lets a rich red color show through.

Cereal-reminiscent flavor (probably the hazelnut) definitely there in the initial taste that hits your mouth. Followed by carbonation, and a very pleasant toasted flavor.
A pretty clean finish after that.

One of the first brown ales I had was Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. Probably Newcastle around the same time. Have recently had Bell's Best Brown on tap and thought it was good. Smith's has remained my favorite. This might be at #2 now. Would like to do a side-by-side with this and Smith's.

This is complex enough to be interesting, and yet very drinkable.
I think I was put off by the inclusion of "nectar" in the name.

Worth a try if you're on a brown ale quest as I have been.

This is one awesome beer. Very drinkable. Similar to Newcastle Brown and Robert the Bruce. I love this beer. Very good Hazel Nut taste and very smoooth! One of my favorites. Don't let the funky label keep you from buying this beer, it is awesome. Label does say it won an award for best Brown Ale World Champion, and I believe it. A+ rating.

22oz bottle into a pint glass.

A - Brown with just a hint of red. Monsterous 3 finger tan head which left plenty of foamy lacing.

S - Like a creme brule or a hazelnut toffee. Deep but not powerful.

T - Covered in hazelnut and coffee. A hint of chocolate but not overbearing. Almost buttery in its sweetness but not sweet.

M - Very very balanced. Just a hint of carbonation and not too heavy while still being bold.

D - Its medium sweet and not over carbonated. I would call this a great evening beer but not quite a session beer unless you are really into browns. A little sweet for that perhaps.

After trying this beer, I realized that I actually had tasted some good beer in my life and this wasn't it. The pour was flat with the head disappearing in seconds and a disappointed few bubbles rising to the top from the center of the bottom of the glass. The beer in appearance was cloudy almost murky. Meanwhile, after tasting it the taste was as flat as its pour.

Ok, maybe I'm not being fair. The first actual drink or the beer was delicious but every one after that was "thin" referring to the consistency. I did get a slight note of hazelnut and what seemed to be maybe nutmeg.

The cost was really fair (6 bucks), you can tell they put know what their doing the beer was just a miss for me.

So with everything I've babbled on about, go out and try it for yourself and write your own review.

A dark brown apperance with a thick creamy head. A slight hazelnut and hop smell. Taste was mild and balance with slight nutty flavor. The texture in the mouth was smooth and creamy. Overall this was a easy drinking beer and could be consumed in large volume.

I'll go ahead and say that first and foremost, I am a huge fan of Rogue Ales. Myself, and the bar I am employed at are members of Rogue Nation; not to mention I have Dead Guy tattooed on my leg.

That aside I have had the hazelnut brown nectar both in a bottle and on tap.

A- The ale pours out a deep transparent brown with a yellow cream head.

S- anyone without a cold can place their sniffer up to the bottle or the glass and get the pleasant aroma of hazelnut from this well crafted brew.

T- Easy drinking brown ale. This can be a one and done or an all night feast. Light in taste with a pleasing zing of hazelnut on the back end and smooth roast all the way through.

M- coats but doesn't linger on the pallet and is an easy transition either way.

Overall- This brew gets a majority of my recommendations for the in between drinkers.

S: Very nutty, bread, sweet with hints of caramel
T: Follows the smell - nutty at first, then bready, a bit of hop bitterness on the aftertaste
M: Good level of carbonation, a bit chewy

From a 22 bomber...

Good-looking brown ale - good clarity, very reddish in color with a small head that disappears towards the end.

The smell was not quite what I expected - very malty, roasted smell with a little bit of chocolate. I hoped there'd be more hazelnut in the aroma, but it was harder to detect...

The taste is truly delicious. Malty bitter chocolate goodness with hazelnut undertones that are most easily detected after the post-sip exhale. The rich, smooth feel makes it extremely drinkable. Very good beer.

I actually had to review this beer because so many people loved it and I'm now wondering what I'm missing. First it poured a deep reddish brown, slighty murky. Moderate head retention with some nice lacing. Ok, it smelled good, really it did, I WANTED to like it. It smelled like a bakery, caramel, toasted nuts, all that good stuff. But the taste? eh. It was a bit one-dimensional for me. Definitely very heavily presented toasted nut and oat flavors. But something was off, like I was looking at the tap and THINKING hazelnut but really I was tasting some horrible nut extract with a heavy emphasis on walnut/pecan. Oh yeah, some vanilla and even a little cocoa. But I wanted it sweeter and more balanced. WAY more balanced. but hey, maybe it's just me.

Appearance - Dark Brown/Slightly Red, the head disappears instantly after pour with only a little trace of it ever being there. Besides the head being gone, the color of the beer itself makes it look very appealing. Dude on the bottle makes me want to cheers him and drink.

Smell - The smell is very nutty, definitely caramel and vanilla.

Taste - This beer is delicious, from the first sip to the aftertaste. It tastes very nutty, with toffee, caramel and maybe wheat. Some super fire.

Mouthfeel - Perfectly carbinated, not overly sharp, but smooth even while in your mouth.

Drinkability/Overall Review - I love this beer, delicious, I will definitely have this beer again and it is officially one of my favorites. Rogue has done it again!

Poured from a 750ml bottle. Has a dark appearance, not unlike a dark wheat ale or doppelbock. Smells definitely of hazelnut.

Taste: this is where I have to disagree with some other reviewers. Most noted an overbearing hazelnut taste, with a lack of coffee/caramel/chocolate taste. Mine tastes strongly of a porter or chocolate stout. Absolutely delicious. The hazelnut isn't too strong or weak; just perfect.

Other notes: not much head develops, but what little does, stays for a nice lacing

This is simply a wonderful beer. I knew that when my conservative family failed to praise the beer that I had an obvious winner. They just don't know the difference between what is good and what is bad. I am generally not a nut brown fan, but this changed by mind about what could be done. Based on recollection, this one won an award. Deservedly so!

Nose - The Hazelnut really comes through with this one. Strong nutty, caramel, with a touch of yeast.

Taste - Starts off much like any brown ale, toffee and caramel with a little more richness and intensity of flavor. A bit strong on the alcohol mid way, but you get the full effect of the Hazelnut upon swallowing and forget all about the heat. Nice strong nutty finish that doesn't taste synthetic.

Overall an outstanding example of the style.

A personal favorite, this beer gets me excited. It's beautiful brown color will entice you to try it. As brown ales are, it's malty and sweet. A beautiful blend of hazelnut overtones with sweet complexities at the finish. This is one to keep.
A - The clear brown coloration is exquisite.
S - Like an inviting aroma? Yeah, I thought so. This one's got what you need.
T - A beer doesn't win this many awards for tasting bad.
M - Once you try it, your mouth will feel incomplete without it.
D - Very easy to drink - but it's not a Guinness.

My first review, so please be tolerant, but it is far from my first beer.

A: served in a 20 oz becker, but the beer was a little too cold. Head is almost a clear light cream color due to large bubbles, and dissipates quickly with no lacing. Carbonation is somewhat high, but does not impair the enjoyment of the beer. Color is a light red brown, slightly hazy.

S: After warming in the glass, I get hazelnut and toffe aromas.

T: Not sweetly malty, roasted malt and hazelnut flavors, somewhat smooth bittering hops. maybe a little "sharp" bitterness, I don't know how to describe it.

M: Nice, smooth, almost silky, but the high carbonation cuts through a little bit.

Overall, it is a very drinkable beer, with the malt balanced by bitterness. Seems a bit over carbonated, but i kind of like it. I could drink a lot of this beer.

S: 22 oz bottle,

Wow, let me repeat that, wow. I have just found the same experience that I had when I first bit into a piece of toast with Nutella on it. For a fan of the hazelnut, this is the equivalent of a finding dark brown gold in a little 12 oz bottle. If you like a beer with a distinguished nut taste, look no further. You will not find a better beer. Did I mention this beer is good.

Bought the bomber from Total Wine today. Poured into glass.
Appearance reveals beautiful reds and rich browns. Slightly cloudy from carbonation. Very light brown, tan head.
Strong hazelnut aroma. Malts and spices in the background.
Wow. This beer is an explosion of hazelnut and luckily for me I am a fan of hazelnuts. Rich and abundant flavor! As you swallow, the hazelnut slowly calmer and you can begin to taste the malts and spices you smelled in the background. After taste is an ever so slight hopiness. Great flavor!
Mouthfeel is attractive. Very medium bodied. Great carbonation without being too fizzy.
I thoroughly enjoy this beer. Tastes exactly as advertised. Rogue is one of the best brewers in the nation for a reason. This beer is just another example. Bravo!

Drank this from a 22-onuce bottle poured into a pint glass.

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Neat bottle with your average, blue-collar worker on the front. His expression was very similar to mine after the first time I tried this beer. Put one fist in the air and say, "Wow, that is dang good!" The beer itself is a dark, reddish-brown.

Smell - Has a wonderful, hazelnut smell that gives a small hint on the great taste to come.

Taste - Goes down nice and smooth, especially for a darker beer. Has a very pleasant hazelhunt finish.

Mouthfeel - Like others have mentioned, this beer is not heavy and syrupy as you may expect. The beer goes down nice and easy.

Drinkability - A truly wonderful beer! I would probably not drink this with a meal, but it is a wonderful in-between meal beer/late night beer. I look forward to having this beer again.

I've only been trying "microbrewery" beers for about a year. However, this is one of the best I've had so far. A definite must try!
