This beer pours a light bodied chestnut brown in color with a one finger creamy off white head. The nose is somewhat sweet and malt with a touch of nuttiness, almost in a syrup type of manner. The flavors are a big improvement. It's malty with hints of caramel, toffee, and light butterscotch with a lot of hazelnut. The hazelnut even flows into the after taste and doesn't leave for a couple minutes. It has great, great flavor for the style. It drinks light and sweet with a subtly dry finish. This is one of the best brown ales you can find in my opinion. This beer may be an acquired taste but if you like coffee or nutty flavors this beer is for you.

Pours a nice ruby red with a bit of a tan head that leaves some lacing.

Smell is on the sweet side, the malt notes kick in first, then a bit of a candy like sweetness.

Taste is very much on the sweet side, but not overly so. There is a nuttiness there, and the sweetness is a bit different from the typical malt sweetness, maybe from the hazelnuts.

Feel is fairly standard for the style, no complaints here.

Overall a decent beer, but not a standout. It goes down very easy, and would be nice on a hot day, I would juts like a bit more fullness in the flavor. Worth a try, a nice variation on a brown ale.

12-ouncer.

Slightly reddish-brown with a churning head of beige bubbles. Coarse and popping. And, falling... Ok, poor retention. But, it looks 'nectary'? 3.5

Roasted grain, mustiness, and nutty sweetness. Very faint hazelnut nose. Not much more to the aroma than that. Smells like a Euro Dark Lager... 2.5

Sharp hazelnut coffee flavors with a bright pungency. A little sweet, a lot roasty (for a brown ale). Toffee, Nutella, earthy/spicy hops, and some malt bitterness (especially, in the finish). If I didn't know it to have hazelnut/hazelnut flavor added, I'd think it was a product of a lively yeast (which I think is adding other nutty qualities). Everlasting finish that is bittersweet. Delicate flavors involved here. 4.0

Another easy drinker from my mix-and-match tonight. Low carbonation levels enhance that (but, hurt the score). Pretty much medium-bodied. Minor alcohol presence. VERY minor. 3.5

Nice little brown ale. Good thing, because I was almost at the point of 'down-and-out' on Rogue beer. Happy to have this little puppy in my pint glass. 4.0

A: a nice tanned brown color with a medium head on it that dissapeared rather quickly!

S: Amazing hazelnut aroma with a mild malty with nutty aroma on the back of the nose!

T: amazing hazelnut taste with a nice nutty taste on the back! very simillar to the nose! some caramell as well!

M: medium to full body on this one! very chewy! very nice!!

Poured into a tulip.

A: Dark brown with a finger and a half of off-white head. No lacing.

S: Super nutty, hazel, slightly sweet malt, slight coffee aroma. The nuts dominate the smell.

T: Huge on nutty tones with a great kick of hazelnut. Malts definitely present, but not overly sweet. Low bitterness.

M: Not overly carbonated. Leaves a nice nutty, hazelnut coffee aftertaste.

O: I've only had a couple of straight brown ales, but this is the best yet. I'm happy that it's not overly sweet like some browns. Good stuff.

Poured from the bottle into my Chimay goblet.

Appearance: The beer pours a murky reddish brown with a light tan head that goes away completely.

Smell: Definitely picking up the nuts. Malty but not particularly sweet. I'm getting the hazelnuts and some vanilla notes.

Taste: The hazelnuts are quite pronounced here too. A very mild malt sweetness, the sweet taste is mild, not the malt. The finish is slightly bitter and nutty.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with tingly carbonation and a slightly slick finish.

Overall: I'm a big fan of this beer. The hazelnuts are a very welcome addition to the mix. I'd have another.

A- Crystal clear mahogany with a rich looking mocha colored head. Nice retention with some lacing.

S- Mild toasted malt with just a hint of hops. The hazelnut is barely there.

T- I was expecting something on the sweet side but this is mild and nutty with some hops in the middle and then that elusive hazelnut essence.

M- Medium light body with subtle carbonation.

O- This is a pleasant beer to savor. Not very complex but an interesting and well made example of the style.

this beer is all over the place. pours a see through light brown M&M color, with a lacey off white head and an absolute ton of carbonation rising in the glass, looks like soda. smell is amazing, nutty and sweet, notes of vanilla, roasty english malt, and an earthy sort of hop vibe. flavor is a touch on the sweet side for my liking, its sugary in the mouthfeel too. the hazelnut flavor is great though, and it adds a great element to the beer. feel could be improved, a little less carbonation and a little more body and this would be world class, because its got everything else. overall one of my favorite brown ales, but stil room for improvement. excellent with gourmet pizza.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass at cellar temperature.

L - Brown color with a 3-finger foamy cream-colored head. Pretty good retention and really nice lacing. Nice amount of carbonation bubbles.

S - Toasty and nutty malt with a strong hazelnut aroma. Maybe a tiny bit of floral hops.

T - Kind of watery with not much taste up front but the sweet, nutty, and toasty malts eventually shine through, again with a strong hazelnut presence. Slightly bitter floral and spicy hops appear at the finish.

F - Light-to-medium bodied with decent carbonation, sweet mouth-coating feel, and a slightly dry and bitter finish. Sweet and nutty flavors linger for a little bit.

O - This beer looked and smelled good but seemed a bit lacking in taste and mouthfeel. For a brown ale, it just didn’t seem like there was enough malt. The flavors didn’t shine through right away, and it just felt watery. Still a tasty beer, but I’ve had better brown ales.

Rogue Brewing "Hazelnut Brown Nectar" @ 6.2% (Originally tasted from a cask at GCBF/11)now from a 650 ml bottle served cold into a stein
A-poured a hazy mahogany with red hues , frothy khaki head , lots of creamy lacing
S-toasted malts , sweet aroma of hazelnuts and some fruit
T-roasted malt upfront with a whole lotta hazelnutty sweetness , quickly followed by a spicy hop moving the balance of the beer nicely onward
MF-smooth and creamy , medium to thick bodied , moderate carbonation
Ov-Oh yeah , damn fine beer , very tasty , hard to find , highly recomended for a brown ale !!

Enjoyed in a pint glass

A: pours a warm whiskey brown color that is completely transparent and has a solid amount of carbonation bubbles which lead way to a very fizzy light tan colored head which lingers nicely before dissipating and leaving almost no lacing
S: a very nice scent for a brown ale, nice roasted caramel and toffee malts characteristics and a nice slight sweetness at the end which reminds me of cane sugar
T: the hazelnut really hits up front clean and clear, then it is followed up by a nice malt note, the finish is very reminiscent of black coffee and its bitterness (not like hop bitterness), after the liquid leaves the palate a slight sweetness sneaks back onto the back of the tongue
M: slight carbonation tingle on the tip of the tongue up front, smooth and thin across the palate, leaves a slight bittering note on the palate
O: quite a delicious and wonderfully drinkable brown ale, hazelnut is a wonderful addition and is well balanced with the rest of the malt

It poured a very beautiful dark red, with a mocha head that disappeared pretty quickly. For a brown own I was expecting it to look more brown, but it still looks nice; Kind of looks like Coca-Cola.

It smells really nice. Sort of mild, but I get some coconut, and maybe some smokey malts. Maybe it's a little cold, but the aroma isn't coming off too strong, I'm sure it will come through as it warms though.

This tastes very nice. Right away I get a nice nutty, sweetness from the hazelnut, with a nice smokey malt presence. I do get a tiny bit of alcohol. The only downer is that the nutty presence seems to go away once it goes down. If anything it should be brown ale, nice carbonation, with a nice sweet. nuttiness on the end and lingering in your mouth. I also get a little bit of vanilla in there.

I just kept getting this strange taste as it went down. But I only have one 12 oz bottle, so I can't really further investigate with another, but it still very tasty, hard to rate from here .

A: Pours a clear mahogany in color with some reddish highlights and light visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall creamy beige head that reduces by about 50% and leaves a half finger thick layer over the entire surface of the beer with a much thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant lacing is observed.

S: There is a nice backdrop of caramel malts with just a hint of sweetness that provides the platform for the wonderful hazelnut notes.

T: The flavors really follow the aromas for the beer... There is a very nice caramel malt body with wonderful buttery hazelnut flavors. The flavors of the hazelnut are not as strong as the aroma. Sweet upfront with some very light bitterness which does not linger.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: Very easy to drink and very enjoyable. There is a nice complexity to the taste and smell of the beer, including the inclusion of the hazelnut. Definitely a beer I would get again.

12oz into a snifter. Pours a clear ruby amber w/ a minimal head that dissipates quickly to a thin film, then disappears almost completely. Moderate carb rises from the bottom of the glass.

Aroma has a light roasty nuttiness I can't quite ID, must be the hazelnut. Not getting much, and this beer is not cold.

Taste has the same roasty hazelnut character as the nose. Some sweet caramelly malt blends with the slightly bitter roast, a hint of cinnamon. Dry bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is a little thin, but balanced. Maybe a little prickly.

Overall, I'm not really sure what to make of this one. If you're crazy about hazelnut, maybe this is your desert island beer. For me though, there's just not much here to latch onto. I almost feel like I got a bad bottle because this is just disappointing and... meh. It's not bad, I was just hoping for more.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance – Pours a lighter brown color with a billowy tan head. The head has big carbonation bubbles entrapped within. These pop slowly overtime and leave a very nice level of lacing.

Smell – Sweet aromas of brown sugar and molasses are quite strong. These are mixed with a malty breadlines and a hazelnut aroma. They all were in some ways not too complementary and instead seemed to be somewhat stale and artificial in nature.

Taste – A sweet brown sugar and roasted maltiness start the taste quite strong. These are soon meet with some of the hazelnut flavor and a sweeter molasses flavor that develop more toward the middle of the taste. The nuttiness intensifies as the taste advances more and is mixed with a lighter coffee flavor which dry the sweet flavor a bit at the end and leave a bitter sweet taste on the tongue which lingers a bit too long.

Mouthfeel –Creamier then the average brew with a very medium level of carbonation. The creaminess suits the malty flavors well, but the carbonation sort of takes away from the flavors.

Overall – It was an alright brew. The flavors weren’t the greatest as some seemed a little bit artificial and the bitter and the sweet did not seem to meld very well.

Pours murky light and dark brown, golden highlights. A huge khaki head leaves plenty of thick lacing, but quickly dissipates to a ring.

Smells nutty(wow, what a shock), toasted malts, baked bread, how nice.

Taste is similar to aroma, though a little milder, hazelnut, malt, and a pleasant mild bitter flavor is present. Good balance.

Texture is light to medium bodied, very smooth and almost creamy. Very easy to drink.

Nice beer, just what I want from a nutty brown ale, smooth, but not too thin, nutty, with other complexities.

LOOK: Deep brown in color, excellent clarity. Soapy white foam forms leaving some lace behind.

SMELL: Vanilla, brown sugar, hazelnut coffee, espresso.

TASTE: Malt sweetness, brown sugar, molasses, and vanilla upfront. In the aftertaste there is a nutty vanilla note that can be attributed to the hazelnuts used in brewing. There is little bitterness or alcohol flavor.

FEEL: Medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation. Vanilla and hazelnut flavors linger on the palette.

OVERALL: As solid as a brown ale that you can find. A bit sweet, but also very tasty. Would pair nicely with most desserts.

Pours a mild thinnish looking brown. Looks relatively clarified, but still very opaque. The head is and dirty offwhite with only moderate retention, leaving a creamy ring of foam as it dies.

It's a malt bomb like most brown ales, but there is a sweet, nuttiness to it that puts it above others of the same type.

Wow. I'm not a brown ale or nut brown ale fan, but this is making me rethink that. I still don't care for the high level of malt, but this has a mild nutty flavor, mixed in with some smokiness and even the faintest bit of chocolate. Hops are only present in the aftertaste.

It tries to be sweet, but that battle is lost in the initial creaminess as it gives way to somewhat loose, hoppy finish. It's medium-bodied at best, with an almost watered-down feel before an earthy, barely bitter swallow.

Very easy to drink, the alcohol is only moderate so you could easily sip this all night. Another standout from Rogue. A must try for anyone who favors malt bombs or doesn't care for brown ales like me.

Appearance - Pours a beautifully deep ruby brown with a finger width head, dissipates rather quickly, and leaves behind a nearly non-existent lace.

Smell - Intoxicating aromas of hazelnut and sweet, roasty malt.

Taste - Complex malts without being overtly malty. Sweet. Nut and hazelnut up front. Well balanced. Not overly flavored.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body. Low carbonation. Somewhat creamy.

Overall - One of my all-time favorite browns. Even throughout. Easy drinking. I find most browns to be overly sweet; isn't the case with this one.

Let it sit. The warmer this beer gets the better. Fresh out of the fridge the smell and taste leave much to be desired. As it warms, malty notes of honey and hazelnut move to the forefront, however, not quite to the strength I'd desire. I enjoyed mine in a tulip glass. Not sure I'd purchase it again but worth the few dollars I spent at my local Trader Joe's.

Look - dark brown in color, hazy, with about half a finger's worth of foam that dissipates quickly.

Smell - surprisingly not much of a smell at all. If I strain really hard I can tell that there's a hazelnut tinge to it, but that's about it.

Taste - at first it's more of a malty ale taste, but then right after the start the hazelnut flavor kicks in, which permeates into the finish and aftertaste a bit. Bitter aftertaste in general.

Mouthfeel - pretty well balanced overall, doesn't seem to lean more or less on the watery or creamy sides.

Overall - not a bad brew...tastes a bit like coffee. Not very interesting to think about though.

Color is dark brown; the tan head is well developed at first but fades quickly. While the scent is a bit muted, hazelnut is definitely noticeable. The taste is very nutty. Hazelnut is prominent, with a slight sweet and roasty malt flavor and a touch of floral hops bitterness. The mouthfeel is the weak point of this beer - it's quite thin and watery. I can see the strong nut flavor of this beer pairing well with desert.

I had this Nectar in a nonic pint.

Appearance- The frothy, caramel-colored head hits about a finger in width before deflating into a thin smattering of fizz that almost cocvers the cap.

In the glass, I am treated to an attractive dark auburn with an amber glow when held up to the light. Pretty nice for a beer that is more on the transparent side.

Smell- Well, if you do not smell hazelnuts in this thing a visit to the nose and throat doctor might be in order. This one is incredibly malty, and a sweet malty at that.

It is also a little buttery and toasty, a perfect match for the sugary hazelnut.

Taste- Dessert beer fits this palate bill nicely! The hazelnut does not ride through the majority of the drink, but it does not need to with everything else going on.

Sure, the hazelnut flavor kicks it off, but then there is a bit of bittering hops, and even crystal malt-like flavor that sloshes around.

This is all followed by a butteriness and slight roasted quality that undoubtedly reminds me of a hazelnut coffee drink.The finish once again sees a major return of the hazelnut and some of that roasted malt flavor. This beer is really well rounded.

Mouth feel- This is where I get a little sad-face about this Rogue offering. I think this is too thin. I want it to be creamy, and have the carbonation really give it some lift, all while rolling down the gullet.

In reality, it is more slick; it is certainly too thin, but not in a caustic or unpleasant way.

Overall- I remember liking this beer when I had it on-tap, but the six-pack version has me more excited. I am not sure what it is, but I just felt like I tasted more complexities this time around.

I will definitely be stocking this one in the fridge regularly now that it is not relegated to bombers. Hey Rogue! How about some four-packs of the Double Chocolate Stout? Please?

I was very pleasantly surprised when I first had this brew from a bottle, so I jumped at the chance to try it on tap. Served in a tumbler pint, the beer pours an amber-caramel coloring with a low profile, filmy, small bubbled head that clings to the edge of the surface. The nose is just as amazing as I remember it being in the bottle, with a creamy, buttery blend of rich hazelnut, caramel, and an overall roasted quality. Flavors are a light, smooth blend of Nutella and a biscuity backbone. It almost tastes like caramel popcorn soaked in a hazelnut blended coffee. Super smooth flavors that remain light, and the crisp body make this a ridiculously easy drinker. The aftertaste is nutty and sweet, with a sugary kiss at the very end. The finish is subtly sweet, with a sugary and rich hazelnut linger that entices the palate to continue drinking. This is a tremendous beer, and one of the better Browns I've ever had.
