probably the best brown ale i have had to date but i haven't had them all ;)
pours very deep mahogany brown with a nice 1 inch head that dissipates slowly and leaves nice lacing.
smell is nutty sweet, hazelnuts, caramel malts and brown sugar with hints of earthiness perhaps from hops.
taste was sublime. big hit of sweet malts followed by a nice nutty taste that lingers on the tongue and a hoppy essence at in the background is just enough to keep this one in balance. Finshes sticky yet very smooth with a light crispness in the end.
very very enjoyable. I'm sorry I waited so long to give this one a try.

A: Honey, redish brown, mahogany. The color in this beer is so alive that it's like it's about to talk to you. This brew has the looks alright. Nice big, thick head and a wonderful lacing.
S: A lot of wood and hazelnut. You can really get the nutshell in the nose. Real strong and natural, the aroma is very complex but well defined at the same time.
T: You can feel in the mouth pretty much all that was perceived in the aroma. Nice balance between malt, hops, alcohol. Strong, pretty direct. Nice dry finish.
M: Nice body, medium carbonation.
D: Very, very high. I could not get tired of this magnificent brew.
Rogue is my favorite brewery from the USA, I think they do everything right and I think the don't follow trends, they just stick to doing what the do best. Make great beer with an awesome balance. And balance it´s really hard to get in this days, when brewers want to impact dramatically at all costs, sometimes.

This is one awesome beer. Very drinkable. Similar to Newcastle Brown and Robert the Bruce. I love this beer. Very good Hazel Nut taste and very smoooth! One of my favorites. Don't let the funky label keep you from buying this beer, it is awesome. Label does say it won an award for best Brown Ale World Champion, and I believe it. A+ rating.

Maybe I am giving this beer too much credit but I think it is delicious. I think the look of the beer is fantastic in color, nice dark brown in color and a tan creamy head during pour. The mouthfeel of this beer is great extremely smooth which makes it very drinkable. You can smell the strong hazlenut aroma with each sip. I happen to enjoy the smell of hazlenut which makes this beer that much better to me.
The only negative I can see others having about this beer would be the strong scent of hazlenut. I believe one bottle of this or a couple of pints is just perfect. I'm very happy with this beer.

Arguably my favorite beer w/ easy access too. I would put the Plinys ahead of this. Tried this first on tap at Kennewick Brews & Blues fest 2010, kept drinking it. The look is a light brown but the smell is a rich aroma of nectar & brown. At first taste the nectar overpowers at the end, which makes it quite pleasing. Initial taste is a rich brown. Beer is just tasty as hell. Bottles are alittle differ taste to it but not much. Had oppt to have this freshly tapped in 3cities & at Rogue in newport & pdx. Ask for a "snickers" then order a "super snickers"...combo choco stout & hazel. Combo dbl choco stout & john john hazlenut. Deadly stuff.

Solid brown with a nice full creamy brown head. Nice balanced hazelnut and chocolate aroma. Robust hazelnut and chocolate malt flavors with no hop character for a Rogue ... very different but a nice departure. Medium-full bodied and creamy smooth with a long chocolate cocoa finish.
A delicious non-hoppy Rogue brew for a change... A must try !
Per RA website: Great Western 2-row Pale, Munich, Hugh Baird Brown, Crystal 80 and Crystal 135, Carastan, and Beeston Pale Chocolate malts; hazelnut extract; Perle and Saaz hops.
Measurements: 14 degrees Plato, IBU 33, apparent attenuation 73.6, Lovibond 36.

Appearance: A small creamy head which is actually quite good for a brown ale. When you look at it, you can see where they got brown nectar.
Smell: You get a big nose with this brew with a good chocolate blast. Also hazelnut, toast and roasted malts.
Taste: Good roasted malts with chocolate and hazelnut flavors. A toasty nuttiness with a nice hop balance that finishes nice. I seemed to taste more of a chocolate flavor than hazelnut, but that is fine with me.
Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel to slightly creamy with a sharp finish.
Drinkability: Very luxurious and tasty, yet complex and easy to drink. This may be my favorite Rogue brew yet.

Appearance:
Deep amber-brownish color, hazy. Very creamy head. Lacing looks awesome on the glass.
Aroma:
Very malty in the nose.... Toffee, honey, tons of sweet hazelnut and toasted malts.
Taste & Mouthfeel:
Very rich maltiness up front, hazelnut, toffee, honey, toasted malts. Very mild bitterness from the hops in the middle, a little earthy/tea-like. Slight roasted coffee at the end. Mouthfeel is awesome, very silk and creamy.
Finish & Aftertaste:
Very smooth, slight roasted aftertaste.
Overall Impressions:
Very complex for a brown ale, yet very drinkable. Truly one of my favorite.

A- Nice head, that dissipates after a moment, but a very nice pour. I didn't have much lacing, but otherwise, the beer is really nice to look at.
S- Nutty, coffee kind of smell. Smells like toasted malts, and reminds me of sitting by a warm fire.
T- Sweet, but not too much so, smooth, so smooth... mellow taste that manages to incorporate a little bit of slight hops, and give it a slight kick. Really complex and beautiful taste.
F- So smooth. Perfect carbonation. This beer is so smooth I could picture having one, and wondering where it went.
O- Love it. I think it's seriously a great beer.

Poured from tap at Yardhouse into a Pint glass.
Color: Hazy dark brown with a beige head.
Smell: Hazelnut, sweet notes and malt.
Taste: Hazelnut, cream, chocolate, malt.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy (gigidy) with a slight dryness.
Overall: I am in awe how delicious this brew taste. Reminds me a little bit of raisinets. Everyone at the table (4) loved it!It's creamy, seet, hazelnut and a great malt. It is not too heavy or too light. Love it! Love Rogue! Cheers!

Definitely the little brother of the Rogue Chocolate Stout. A very drinkable beer, with a nice hint of the same great chocolate aroma that pervades the stout. This brown also has the same great hint of chocolate on the palate, smooth and tasty. A more dinkable beer than the stout, it has greater appeal to people who seek a beer that is not as bold as the stout.
Another great success by Rogue.

Yummy!!
Rich, dark brown body with a thin off white head. Lovely chocolate-hazelnut smell and the flavour is just as good. Rich. nutty, malty. No hop bitterness to hold back the nutty flavours.
My only complaint is that the body comes off as a bit heavy sometimes, but this is a very tasty, very good beer. Thank you Rogue for coming the GCBF!

I picked up a bomber of this at Galeville Grocery in Liverpool.
The flavor of this beer is unreal. Sweet malt, sugary, vanilla, caramel and all things delicious. I don't normally like brown ales but this is probably the tastiest beer I've ever had.

The beer is gorgeous. One could probably enjoy it without drinking it...but I don't recommend that kind of alcohol abuse.
The creamy thick head and deep brown body truly is a work of beer art. The smell is rich and nutty with hints of toffee and a slight alcohol bite. The taste is smooth and nutty with yet more hints of caramel and shares many characteristics of hazelnut flavored coffee. The finish is remarkably clean. The aftertaste has a bit of bitterness and slight alcohol that leaves the palate clean and ready for more.

This is simply a wonderful beer. I knew that when my conservative family failed to praise the beer that I had an obvious winner. They just don't know the difference between what is good and what is bad. I am generally not a nut brown fan, but this changed by mind about what could be done. Based on recollection, this one won an award. Deservedly so!

This beer looks a little darker than your average brown ale mildly foggy. the head is an off white and has a decent retention
has a dark nutty smell with the hazelnut being prominent with a mild caramel scent
the taste is more complex than just hazelnut there is a blast of flavors the instant it hits my tongue and the hazelnut is brought out when it gets towards the back of my throat. it has a perfectly mild bitter finish
a medium to heavy mouthfeel which is what i prefer. this is probably one of my top beers and i could drink this stuff all night every night great job rogue brewery

This is one of my favorite beers, I believe this was my first craft brew years ago. Brown in color, with an intense hazenut smell. Big nutty flavor, smooth malty finish. If you love hazenuts you will love this brew. The beer brings to the table exactly what it describes.

Wow, let me repeat that, wow. I have just found the same experience that I had when I first bit into a piece of toast with Nutella on it. For a fan of the hazelnut, this is the equivalent of a finding dark brown gold in a little 12 oz bottle. If you like a beer with a distinguished nut taste, look no further. You will not find a better beer. Did I mention this beer is good.

WOW!!! The deep-brown color with its smooth tan head make you want to drink this beer. Then the hazelnut and chocolate aromas hit the nose and only the strong of heart can resist. Tasting the beer is truly a religous experience, hazlenut, chocolate, coffee, brown ale...paradise. The only negative is that the beer body is a little thin for the style. Otherwise, find it and treat yourself to one of the very best. Buy two, one to savour the other to quaff quickly as your senses will beg it.

Awesomeness, DRINK IT NOW!
Beer tasting is not serious anyway, but this is good stuff. If you dont know what a brown ale is...SHAME ON YOU!
It looked brown, tasted like nectar would to bees (consider we are human) very smooth. I could drink this for a substitute of juice for breakfast any day. The only complaint is the bottle should be bigger or come in six pack of cans, cause I could shotgun about 6 of these bastards.

The bottle proclaims this to be the "World Brown Ale Champ." Impressive claim, though it doesn't specify the awarding institution. Ayways, it was enough to whet my curiosity. Pours ruby in color with a medium-tan, creamy head. The aroma is enticing -- roasted malt and hazelnut. Not too strong, just enough to increase my excitement to taste the beer. And wow. The taste. First thing that struck me was the incredible creaminess of this beer. Hazelnut lingers in the background behind a chocolate malt body. Decent hop bitterness to the beer, but very unassertive. Just enough to keep the finish from being cloying. Hazelnut reasserts itself in the aftertaste to a very pleasant effect. All in all a terrific beer -- sweeter than many browns but complex and well-balanced enough to keep it interesting all the way to the bottom of the botle.
