Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.
I so wanna make some sort of Obama joke, but, alas, the spellings just don't mesh... Anyway, this stuff pours a mostly clear lemon-straw topped by a finger of white foam. The nose comprises barley, mild flowers, and a strong twinge of lemon rind that shocks from the start through to the middle, not unlike a bolt of pain from the sciatic nerve when that uppity ganglion group gets grumpy. The taste brings in more of the same, with a stronger sense of lemon, but one that is simultaneously milder, softer, less rind-y. A vein of lightly-buttered biscuit pervades in a constant undertow, providing a nice semi-counterpunch to the lightly-fruity aspects. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a lightly creamy feel. Overall, an enjoyable helles, something I could see drinking regularly with ease.

Golden colour, clear, medium fading head, good lacing. Aroma was initially reminiscent of a Premium Lager but this gave way to malt and vanilla and later yeast and berries. Tasted toasted honey, orange, malt, hints of grain and wheat. Finish was sharp, wheaty and slightly bitter. Texture slightly thick, heavy carbonation resulted in a coarse edge. Overall this was more of an Export than a Helles as it had that slightly in your face character. Was impressed by the depth which was better than normal.

Beer bottle (50 cl.) purchased from Bières & Chopes, and tasted in 2013.
Appearance : golden color, with white foamy head.
Smell : malty and grassy aromas.
Taste & mouthfeel : hoppy flavours, with nice fruity finish.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style Munich Helles Lager.

A - Poured out a clear, golden-yellow color with a one-finger, white head of bubbly, long-lasting foam. It left sudsy rings of lace on the glass.
S - It smelled somewhat spicy with some floral notes. There was a slight caramel nose, too.
T - Tasted of sweet breads and caramel. There is a slight spicy bitterness. Great balance.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied lager with a dry, clean finish.
O - I really enjoyed this brew. I've had quite a few Munich Helles Lagers lately and this was the most enjoyable.

S- very fruity almost belgium like. clean with a slight note of alcohol.
T- a little bitter imo for the style but over all not bad. really bubbley on the tongue and dry on the finish.
M- good carbanation but lacking a little on substance. watery and a bit thin
O- An ok beer. i got this as a gift so i cant complain to much but not something i would spend money on.

Had on tap at Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, California. I enjoyed a large 1-liter serving from a glass stein.
Filled to the 1l mark with the rest of the mug filled with a bubbly foam that stuck to my nose on the first gulp.
Not a very grainy beer. It smelled lightly of a spicy hop and tasted just so. With its strong carbonation and its light body, it was very crisp and refreshing going down, all the way to the bottom of the liter.
I may just be a weakling, but does anybody else think they oughtta make large drinking vessels with two handles instead of one?

Poured a luminous gold with two fingers of white fluffy head. Laces well on my oversized pilsner glass. Smell of yeasty malt and lemongrass. Not a lot on the nose. Smooth malty flavor with a bit of lemony citrus sweetness. Nice vague hop bitterness on the back of the tongue. Bubbly and light mouthfeel. Very drinkable. Extremely refreshing. Great pizza or pretzel beer. This would be a good stepping off point to get your BMC friends to try something new.

A: Pale brassy-lemon coloring has a brilliant clarity. A bready white head shows a great resistance to fall while the effervesce is medium and evenly spaced with a gentle uprising of micro bead carbonation. The lacing is thick and clumpy, sticking well to the glass walls with a good show of coverage. Overall a nice visual appeal, one you expect from a crisp lager in a pounder or mug with a good visual topping.
S: Think fresh green corn stalks for aroma along with a smidge of light buttered grains. Fresh barley, very clean and on par delivery with a light sense is well within the boundaries of expectations here.
T: Sweet dry barley grains with a balance of soft fresh noble hop cones. Again clean flavor, smooth easy malting with a nice level of hops per style. Sweet bready notes come about with a finish of subtle warming flowers of noble origins.
M: Nice massage from the steady and long lasting tingly carbonation on the tongue. Buttery slippery texture, light bodied affair.
O: Overall nice level of drinkability, not much to hold you back here making for an easy brainless downer. Helles is a style not often given the respect and craftmenship it deserves, and this fairs worthy to good by style. My gold standard for such continues to be Hacker Pschorr’s Munich Gold.

Weltenburger Kloster Barock Hell
Code: 28581056
Appearance: Poured in stages to create a nice head, it's a clear deep-gold beneath two-fingers of frothy white foam. The head retention is very good, and the walls of lace that form as you tilt the glass break apart with each sip leaving rings behind.
Smell: Floral and just slightly grassy hops over a mildly sweet, grainy maltiness.
Taste: The floral hops suggested by the nose remain, combining well with the light note of sweetness in the grainy malt base. A firm bitterness balances it, and it finishes dry with lingering floral and grassy notes. Nicely balanced.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light in body, and smooth with a moderate carbonation that gently caresses the tongue.
Overall: An impressive, polished lager with a great floral hop character. Perhaps that's what the "baroque" label refers to. Very nicely done.
