A: Nutty brown, no head, about what I'd expect from an IPA.

S: Grapefruit is rather strong, hops smell sweet and fresh.

T: Hops are nice and string, grapefruit permeates all, good clean flavor isn't hindered by anything else. If you like hops, along with grapefruit, it's that with very little barley. Not sweet, though!

M: A bit oily, but not enough to be irritating. Drinks cleanly, but oil sticks around. Carbonation perfect. Slight astringence.

D: Goes down easily, but would be easier if it were sweeter.

A classic grapefruity IPA with piney notes galore. Kind of like Bridgeports version but even bigger. Not much to complain about with this beer as it delivers the goods in a PNW package. Mouthfeel was just right and finish was long. One of the best IPAs I have had in awhile

A-Presents a golden-orange color with virtually no head. Thus, no lacing.

S-Floral and citrus hops are fragrant and pleasant.

T-Grapefruit and piney hops are aggressive without overpowering the taste buds since it is balanced by delicate malt sweetness from the pale and caramel malts. One of the better tasting IPAs I have enjoyed that is brewed in Oregon.

M-Very smooth except for a slightly oily feel.

D-Quite drinkable, and would be more so but for the disappointing appearance.

On tap at the brewpub in SE Portland. Thanks to ramnuts for the ride!

A: Poured a cloudy, essentially opaque, dark amber in the glass. A finger of off-white head retained poorly and vanished into a film on the glass, leaving no lacing behind.

S: Citrus (grapefruit, orange rind), caramel. Some pine. Very pungent, so much so that when I requested a taster, I just handed the glass off without even sipping it. What a full and robust aroma. Just incredibly pleasant.

T: Following the nose pretty well, a lightly dry blend of citrus hops in grapefruit and orange varieties. It is supplemented by pine hops, with an undercurrent of caramel and bready malt. Surprisingly tasty, and while it's not as dry as the Triple Threat I am having, I personally enjoy this one far more.

M: Light-medium body with light-medium carbonation. Slightly dry. This helps it sit on the palate very lightly and aids drinkability.

D: On a personal level, I'd prefer this to the Triple Threat on my next visit. A great beer, and I can see why ramnuts speaks of this one so highly.

On-Tap @ Lucky Lab Beer Hall poured into Shaker glass.

Pours a slightly murky orange-amber color with a finger of white fizzy head that eventually leaves a nice ring around the glass and allows for nice heavy lacing as this beer is drank. The aroma is bitter orange peel, grapefruit and some touches of malt. The flavor is citrus peel bitterness upfront and follows with some grain and more hop bitterness on the end. Its medium bodied and is nice and crisp. Very enjoybale IPA, I really cannot say one thing bad about it. Exactly what I was looking for when I ordered it.

On tap at the Northwest location after a fine day in Portland. Served in an imperial pint glass. This beer is incorrectly classified as an American Pale Ale on this site. It is in fact an American IPA. This is, in my opinion, the best single IPA in Portland, if not the Northwest.

Pours a light straw colored golden with a nice white head. The aroma has a lot of citrus and pine. Grapefruit, orange pith, and a small caramel malt backbone. Some pine is evident, but this is mostly citrus in the nose.

The flavor is bitter grapefruit, orange, and pine, with a crackery malt backbone. The bitterness is at a medium level and the sweetness is very low. Alcohol is completely hidden by the hop flavor. The finish is dry and bitter with citrus a hint of sweetness.

The beer is light bodied with a medium-high level of carbonation and a dry, sticky mouthfeel.

Stopped in at the Beer Hall on Quimby and the fine young beer maid suggested this as a popular, hoppier offering.

A- A glowing, slightly hazy golden Imperial pint with a slight head. Minimal retention, fine lacing.

S- A wonderful bouquet, floral notes dancing punctuated with hints of citrus.

T- A lovely hop flavor that matches the nose. Not overwhelmingly bitter.

M- A bit thin bodied, mild carbonation.

D- Overall it was a very fine pint, one that I will go back for. All around a winner in my book, enjoyed it from start to finish.

Imperial pint, on tap at the brewery.

Super Dog looks, well, pretty super. The body glows golden orange with a bright white head. Very active visible carbonation dances all the way til the last sip. Tons of sticky lacing from the top to the bottom.

Big floral and fruity hop bouquet. Plenty of orange/tangerine/grapefruit and fresh cut flowers. Some pine simmering underneath. Very fresh and lively.

Tastes great. Loads of fruitiness both tart and sweet- grapefruit, lemon zest, fresh squeezed orange and tangerines, hints of pineapple. Enough pine to sting, but not to curtail the juiciness of the fruit. The liveliness of the carbonation is an excellent match for the freshness of the hops.

Overall impression: Incredibly tasty IPA. My favorite offering from my favorite brewpub.

Had this on tap in a Courtyard Marriott in Portland, OR. Nice beer town!

They also had SN Celebration on tap!! (but I digress)

Anyway, came with a scant foamy head that faded rather quickly. The beer was a slightly hazy orange amber color. There are intermittent bubble that lazily make their way to the top of the glass. Not much in the way of lacing.

Aroma is mostly of grains, and a little of citrus. Not very strong.

Flavor was nice but I found it a bit astringent right out of the shoot. Nice burst of citrus and some real nice grains. Mostly cracker type flavors. Then you get a burst of citrus.. Some grapefruit, but a few other lighter citrus notes. Then you get a little of the dry (not quite chalky) taste again. Some nice hop lingering notes. Then it becomes more grapefruit like. I don't get much pine.. Mostly citrus.

As noted, the mouth feel is a touch chalky and body is medium.

Pretty nicely drinkable. I'm not a sweet beer fan, but this could use a touch more sweetness. A nice APA still.

Reviewed on site at their Hawthorne location. Love this space and all their spaces, very cool.

A fairly deep amber in color. Lots of NW hop character Cascade and Columbus perhaps, I would guess that it's over 60 IBU's as it has quite a bit of astringent bitterness. Not as hop flavorful and aromatic as better examples of the style. Drinks well enough but it would destroy your pallate after a while. Fun though, I'd rather have a fresh one of these than a SN celebration.

The bartender called it their hoppiest beers and estimated the ABV between 6-7 (heh). Not sure why this is classified as an APA.

The beer pours an amber gold color with good head retention and lacing. Predictably, I get a lot of citrus and some pine on the nose. The beer smells very hoppy (to no great surprise). On the palate this beer is hugely hoppy, with fabulous bitterness. Can't even imagine what the Super Duper Dog must be like. The beer is medium bodied, and drinkability is good, though this beer is so hoppy, a little bit goes a long way.

This is a very impressive beer. I get a kick out of the fact it's listed as a pale ale, rather then an IPA. This is one of the hoppier IPA's I've ever had.

Thanks to beerzack for sharing the bottle at the tasting
Pours a light amber/golden color. Smell is honeydew melon scented sweet hops. Smells good. Taste is balanced nice sweetness and is very drinkable. Nice bitterness. Overall a slightly thin bodied IPA and feels somewhat delicate, but is quite enjoyable.

Clear orange-golden color with decent head that fades to ring and spots.

Grapefruit and some tropical notes, mostly pineapple. No astringent or alcoholic aromas.

Big fruity hop flavors, red grapefruit, pineapple, orange all jump off the light malts leaving a bitter finish. Great West Coast IPA.

Soft, light-moderate mouthfeel with low carbonation helps this hop juice go down. Highly drinkable hop bomb.

Had this at their pub on-tap. Also had it at the BendBrewfest. It's great as an entry level IPA. It can't compete with the big contenders like Victory, Dogfishead, or Stone, but its damn fine.

Copper colored with a bit of cloudiness. Good head and carbonation, pretty close to average.

Sweet hopiness and bright florals come to the nose. Very inticing.

Tastes great, lots of hops, but not to oily or sappy. It goes down real smooth, with above average drinkability. Grab a pitcher of this and enjoy your night!
