Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.
Appearance: rich, nutty-brown hue with a haze-free body and a light effervescence. Head is a finger of creamy tan foam; overall, a nice-looking beer.
Smell: relatively mild aroma of sweetish malt with a very light graininess and some light floral notes. Not bad, but a bit subtle for my taste.
Taste: lightly bready, biscuity malt with a bit of caramel character in the mix. Little hop character, although there's plenty of bitterness to balance this brew out. Again, objectively it's OK, but the biscuity character doesn't suit my palate.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a good level of carbonation and a nice, rich texture.
Overall: definitely not my favorite brew from Pelican, but it's a decent brown ale which is worth a shot. It didn't particularly float my boat, but if you like browns this one should at least be tried.

Doryman's is a dark brown with a very slightly opaque quality and a red hue at the edges and in the light. A very nice tan cap of head rises; it's not huge, though it gets fairly high; it does, however, have more consistency than almost any beer I've ever seen. It's thick, creamy and tight. this thing stays together and it stays the whole way. I never drops to less than half a finger and it leaves thick, creamy lacing in patches most of the way down the glass. This beer looks very nearly perfect.
The nose isn't quite as hefty or complex as the flavor, but that's not saying anything bad about it. It gives up a nice, roasty malt profile first and foremost with something woody, earthy and smoky. In the flavor, the malt certainly remains the backbone but there's a very solid floral bitterness with a hint of citrus to it. This brown has more going for it than most of its kind. There's cocoa, a bit of smokiness/char, a touch of something slightly woody, and a hint of toffee pulling through at the end. Browns can be tough to make flavorful, but boy did Pelican Pub pull it off.
The feel is smooth and rich, absolutely rolling with a creamy smoothness all the way over just a bit of crsipness starting it off and remaining light but firm from a steady carbonation. It's rare to find a brown with a ricj, robust body; again, Pelican Pub really pulling it off.

Pours a nice finger of tan head on a clear, brown body.
Aroma is a faint toasted malt.
The taste is a roasted malt throughout, a little nutty and mild bitterness in the finish.
Smooth texture, moderate carbonation and medium body.
Great flavor and balance throughout. The smell was the only letdown for being so faint.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. Bottled August 7th 2012.. hmmm getting a little late to the party maybe lets see how this goes.
A real nice antique white head, surprising on a brown ale, three fingers deep creamy. Body has a classic dark mahogany body, hints of red along the edges, kind of a dark walnut red/brown body, very nice.
Minimal toasty malts, a nice mix of spice and nutty malt brown ale senses. Quite balanced, simple and nice. A little bit of clove like chocolate too.
Great flavorful palate with a light body, almost wet. Mouthfeel sort of hits a back seat, almost wet even for a brown ale, but the palate fills with many flavors. Mild chocolate, great hop sense of lime and brown spices (clove/nutmeg). Light toast aromas, wonderfully balanced palate. Head brings a nice bit of creamy sense even with the slightly wet feel.
Overall this one great tasting and looking brown ale, very much enjoying this one.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating but should be fairly fresh. Pours crystal clear reddish copper color with a nice 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Good foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, biscuit, chocolate, toffee, nuttiness, herbal, grass, light earth, and light citrus. Nice aromas with good balance and decent strength. Taste of caramel, roasted grain, biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, toffee, herbal, grass, earth, and light citrus. Light bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, and herbal on the finish for a bit. Awesome flavor robustness with great balance and complexity; no cloying flavors at all on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a nice creamy and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent brown ale! Nicely robust and balanced with nice complexity; very smooth to drink. Really enjoyed this.

3oz taster pour
Enjoyed at brewpub on 9/3/12
A: Pours out a dark amber color. It's clear but not a lot of light coming through. Get some mild lacing.
S: There are smells of mild roast yet hoppy aromas. Also getting some nuttiness.
T: For the flavor, the taste has many porter characters. Getting that roast, that nuttiness, that maltiness. But it's a much thinner body than a porter. The finish isn't quite as dry as a porter either.
M: This is a medium bodied beer. It's good stuff

[Suggested Glassware: Dimpled Mug]
The pour was a clear medium chestnut brown with a large (2-3 finger) light brown frothy head that did have decent retention, reducing to a thick film with a large collar and had good sheeting of runny lacing.
The aroma was of a toasted caramel malt, spruce and floral hops and an earthy yeast with notes of chocolate, coffee, brown sugar and a touch of rye.
The taste was nice and malty with a hint of chocolate and caramel early on, and then progressed into a slightly bitter sweet taste with notes of coffee, brown sugar and a touch of molasses with a mild hoppy finish. The flavor lasted an average duration preceding the swallow with a mild malty-bitter taste left to linger for a while longer.
Mouthfeel was almost medium in body and slightly dry in texture with a mild carbonation.
Overall a bold and robust tasting Brown Ale with a nice light bitterness ant the end...

22oz
2012 bottling
Purchased off of Letspour.com
App- mix of gold/amber/brown. Small 1-1/2 finger head. One line of cling. Thats its. Fairly translucent with darker outer edges.
Smell- missing a lot of the brown ale notes. More hoppy and zesty with a peel note. A bit earthy. A little bit of a creme note.
Taste- no brown ale is tasted. Hoppy, light, zesty and clean. Bitter and clean.
Mouth- light medium and light medium carbonation. Was fairly hoppy on the finish. Not nearly enough brown dark malt flavor for.
Drink- it was okay, pretty average. Didnt really want to finish it. Only 1/2 the bottle.

Pretty good America Brown to me. Poured at a good temperature with a mammoth, foamy, frothy, fluffy, light tan head that lasts for a while and lots of lace. Color is a clear amber brown. Aroma is very mild, malt, and roast. Flavor's like nose, carbonic tang up front, followed quickly by bitter, then just as quick sweet with an overall hop malt nut sweet. Body is of the classic good standard. Finish is short, like flavor, and drinkable.

Yet another lovely beer in the ugly 22oz format. Poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a clean, clear dark brown color with over a half-inch of tan head that had moderate retention and lacing.
The aroma started out with some good earthy malts, but was quickly overwhelmed by a heavy hand of hops. After some digging, the basic sweetness of the style showed through. The hops added a pleasant tang at first but quickly took over both the scent and flavors. The taste was that of a good, solid example of the style, until the lupulin gang thugged their to the front.
The body was good, smooth and clean. Drinkability was very good, you'll find it more drinkable if you like the zing of hops, less so if you like a maltier take on the style. Overall, a nice enjoyable brew, whose score will suffer a bit from straying out of style. when I'm in the mood for a brown, I don't want to be attacked by hops. And, this bottle had been in my fridge for a couple months, I imagine the hops would have been even bossier had I tried it sooner. Certainly worth trying, and probably worth trading for.

Pours a nice light brown color with an off white head. The retention is decent. Nose is floral and a bit of chocolate. The taste starts with a roasted flavor, then I get some citrus hops, followed by a more chocolate finish. This is more hoppy than I expected for a brown ale, but I think they made a really interesting beer. Mouthfeel is a little lighter than average for brown ales. Well made beer pelican, this would be a fantastic autum beer for a hop fan.

poured from 22oz bottle into imperial pint glass
A-almost a burnt orange color with about a two finger head that left some lacing as it faded to a small cap
S-some piney hops when I first poured into the glass but that seems to have faded away and now it is a faint carmel smell
T-some chocolate and carmel but not much and then it has a piney hop finish
M-good carbonation medium bodied
O-good but not great, I would probably have it again if I get the chance but won't necessarily seek it out

22oz bottle (October) poured into a tulip. Pours a ruby/mahogany w/ a nice khaki head that settles slowly, leaves plenty of lacing.
Aroma is dark sweet malt, molasses, chocolate. Faint but enticing.
Taste is a nice, simple combination of dark crystal malt and bittering hops to balance things out. Not getting any of the chocolate notes I detect in the aroma. Clean and crisp.
Really smooth, drinkable. A little prickly but satisfying, medium-bodied.
Overall brown ales aren't generally my thing but I liked this one, for what it is.

Bottle shared with Alucard4
Look: Dark brown with red highlights and a 1/2 inch tan head and very good retention and some spotty lacing
Smell: Light dark fruit and caramel nose. It is a bit weak however
Taste: Taste is a bit more potent than the nose. A bit of raisin upfront which is backed up by a nice caramel sweetness finishes with a nice nutty coffee note
Mouthfeel: Just under a medium body with mild carbonation
Overall: A good brown ale for sure with a high drinkability would never turn this one down

Thanks, http://www.yourlittlebeachtown.com/store!
A gorgeous color of dark orange, caramel, amber, and brown, getting lighter and lighter toward the thinner stem of the glass. Thick, persistent light brown head that leaves the glass just covered in messy lace. Perfect.
Biscuity aroma, with a bit of sweetness, and some earthy hops. Simple and accessible.
A flavorful brown ale with lots of biscuity malt character, earthy yet bright hops, and a touch of cinnamon like spice and caramel sweetness. Complex for a brown, though simple enough to be highly drinkable.
Incredibly full mouthfeel, especially per the style. My biggest complaint with most browns is of a thin, watery body, but this one succeeds more than admirably! Creamy. Incredible drinkable.
A delicious, even complex brown ale. Happy to drink this anytime.

caramel color brown with just enough light getting through to give it a sort of off reddish tint. The smallish tan head quickly faded and left behind only traces of itself. The aroma itself was lightly smoked almost, full of roasted malts and a touch of caramel. The flavor was light bodied but nicely roasted with a touch of a bittering finish and a flavor full of earthy grain like tones. A nice subtle bread like base was quaintly masked underneath. Overall this was a decent brown ale. It was nothing spectacular, but I do not think it was designed to be, but rather it was a very nice interpretation of the style. I could see myself drinking this on a session basis as it was very nice

Pours a brown/amber hue. Two fingers of off white head. Really nice lacing and retention.
Earthy and herbal hop presence in the nose, a touch nutty as well.
Sweet toasted bread, a bit nutty, earthy and herbal tones. Solid slightly piney bitterness on the finish.
Medium bodied, well carbonated, smooth. Spot on.
Really solid brown ale overall.

I really like this brew... had to look up the info:
Brewing Specs
Style: American-Style Brown Ale
Gravity: 14 degrees Plato
ABV: 6.2%
Bitterness: 42 IBU
Color: Dark Red-Brown
Ingredients
Pale Ale malt
White Wheat malt
Caramel malt
Chocolate malt
Magnum hops
Cascade hops
Mt. Hood hops
The citrus from the cascades is very subtle, so it's not in your face American. The floral aroma from the cascade & Mt. Hood works really well with the malt. Very refined, almost nobel-like. Smooth moderate body from the quality malt, off-dry finish. It packs a lot of flavour, but I wouldn't have guessed it was this strong.

Brought a bottle back from a recent trip to Oregon. Drank it July 22, reviewed from notes.
Pours medium amber brown, amber at the edges. The color of whiskey. Surprisingly clear for how dark it is. One-finger tan head with average lacing and retention.
Smell is fairly malt and slightly sweet, a bit sugary. Smooth and well-balanced.
Taste starts out malty and full of caramel. A little bit of roast, slight smoke flavors, then a transition to a nice earthy hop back-end. Finish is long and balanced.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body, a bit thinner than most brown/dark ales. Medium-high carbonation. Very smooth.
Malty and slightly sweet, with a nice hop finish. A really nicely balanced, smooth, tasty ale. Nothing flashy, but everything about it is quite good.

22oz bomber poured into a pint
A- A dark cola-brown topped with a 1 finger off white head with good retention. A good amount of light passes through, this is not an extremely dark ale. Fair lacing, Many small bubbles intensely rise off the bottom of the glass at first.
S- Not much nose, just a light whiff of toasted malts.
T- Deep roasted malt flavor, and a slight sweetness. Slight hop bitterness comes through in the middle, but the finish is more of the rich malt. Much more flavor than you would expect based on looks alone owing the lighter color.
M- Full body offset by curiously intense carbonation. It works though, giving a clean finish.
O- Very drinkable deep roasted malt ale of interesting appearance and genuine flavor.

The beer was deep brown in color with little head. The nose was malty, no hops in the nose, not to style. The medium light body was well carbonated that made for a good drinking experiance. The hops were very restrained with the balance toward the malt. The execution was flawless as expected from Pelican, however, the beer was underhopped for a American Brown Ale. Perhaps would get higher marks as an Amber.

A: Amber with a good amount of beige head.
S: Some bread, toasted malts, maybe just a bit of caramel or toffee.
T: Nutty, slightly sweet with a fair amount of hop bitterness in the back. This presents a really nice balance.
M: good carbonation, a slightly dry finish.
O: This is one of the better hoppy browns that I have had. I liked it better than Bender and other similar in this style.

Bomber poured into a nonic pint glass. See-thru auburn bit a big frothy light tan head. Impressive retention, handsome lacing.
Crisp and toasty nose with a dusting of cocoa and a pleasant, if surprising jolt of citrus. And indeed there proves to be quite the hoppy punch, but the citric flavors don't threaten the malty nature of the beer. Malt flavors are dry, toasty and nutty. Moderate in sweetness and body, but certainly not flavor. A brief dalliance with prickly bitterness before a smooth finish.
Overall impression: One of the few brown ales I repeatedly seek out. HIghly recommended.
