look: 3.25 | smell: 4.75 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Tasted On: 06-18-2013
Freshness: Bottled on 11-06-2012
Packaging: 22 oz. brown bottle, pry-cap with foil
Glassware: Snifter
Purchased: Received in a trade

A: Dark brown beer that is nearly opaque, capped by a small head of tan that fades quickly leaving little lace.

S: Aromas are rich, powerful and complex, with elements of toffee, molasses, wood/oak, dark fruit sweetness, bourbon alcohol and some tobacco. Reminds me of the smell of boiling wort on brewing day.

T: Flavors are big and bold, with sweet caramels and molasses up front in this malt bomb. Bitterness is low but the warming of alcohol is pretty pronounced. I also taste vanilla and dark fruits like raisin.

M: The mouthfeel is thick and chewy, like a motor oil, with a moderate amount of carbonation. The finish has dark fruits like figs, plus molasses, for a sweet and malty aftertaste.

O: This is a real "wow" beer; a strong and potent sipper. If you're not turned off by sweet and malty brews I'd recommend you seek this one out!

Thanks to my cousin Brian for this one!

A: Dark mahogany with no head or lacing--so still

S: Plenty of bourbon up front; a bit hot; some wood and lots of molasses

T: Wow, that's a bourbon, oak, and molasses bomb; so boozy but it comes together to make a really tasty beer

F: A touch thin but sticky and creamy enough on the finish for it to work

O: A nice bourbon-centric beer; I think this could use a bit of age to mellow things out a bit but it's still pretty tasty fresh
