From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume III, Issue II:

Bright and clear copper color, foams up right to the rim of the glass and crowns the inside with a stunning lace. Big aromatics from the hops; orange rind, ruby red grapefruit, spearmint and light pipe tobacco. A little bready and fruity in the nose, but the hops are obviously dominant here. Smooth and slick on the palate with a medium to full body. Hops slowly drop a hammer of bitterness that oozes of hard citric, tobacco and woodsy flavors. The malt opens up enough to get through the hops for a brief moment to lend some bready and caramel flavors. Alcohol is deceiving until a few sips in, as the slight warmth sets in and the faint tropical fruitiness materializes on the tongue. Bitter finish, but not bitter enough to hinder us from going back (and back again).

This is a big American IPA, a bit of old-school PNW flavor. We splashed the last few drops on us like aftershave, wishing for more--yet we were left with an empty feeling when it was finished, with only memories of such a great beer.

Glass: Nonic pint glass

Appearance: a clear dark yellow with a large rocky white lasting head.

Aroma: a citrusy hop aroma.

Taste: was light sweetness at first with orange citrus notes and the finish was a moderate to heavy hops bitterness.

Mouthfeel: comes into the mouth light and thin and almost seems to thicken while it sits on the tongue. carbonation was pretty average.

A good IPA, I really enjoyed the flavor and mouth feel, although I felt the aroma was lacking.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass. Bottled 5/30/12; let's hope it's still fresh!

Appearance: medium orange hue with a touch of haze and a moderate effervescence. Head is two fingers of pillowy ivory foam, even a few minutes after pouring. A nice lace is left on the glass; attractive.

Smell: rich, sweet malt aroma with a hint of caramel; it's almost unctuous in character. Hops are earthy and incorporate well with the malt. Overall, a very smooth aroma.

Taste: much like the aroma, but there's a dusty quality here which I've noticed in a lot of fresh-hop ales; I'm guessing they did a measure of wet hopping. A bit sweet, and bitterness is a little low with respect to the overall balance, but the flavor is fresh and tasty. Pretty good!

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a good creaminess, especially for an IPA. I like it.

Overall: quite tasty; fresh and a bit sweet. The light flavor belies the high alcohol ... this beer punches higher than its perceived weight.

A - Pours a vibrant deep golden hue with a massive, chunky head that leaves lots of lacing on the way down.

S - Slightly piney with a hint of caramel.

T - Starts off wheaty, continues to hints of pine and finishes with a strong resiny bitterness.

M - Medium to heavy bodied with ample effervescence.

O - An excellent example of the style. This has the whole package. I heard the brewery is going to stop making this one ... What a shame.

Pours a fantastic golden hue, perhaps a tad darker unless you hold it up to the light then the precious metal glistens through the glass. Fluffy head that rises high and could hang with Lando Calrissian. Lie thine head o hoppy prospector.

Nose is a fresh floral and pine feeling with hints of citrus, maybe orange, but I can't place it. It's a pleasant smell that will make you smile and say ahoy there matey or matress.

Taste is wonderful. I should end it there and drink and watch the game, but i'll elaborate and say it hits every spot your tongue has reserved for a hop driven IPA. It's not super bitter if only a hint at first, until you get some on the with the rest of your drink which levels off along with the sweet bread, pine and citrus. What has been created is a well balanced beer despite the scale going in the hop favor. This liquid gold is smooth and even creamy as it's got a nice medium bodied presence. Some sweetness and kick mixed into what I can only call that hop taste, a good one.

I would say go out and get this beer, it's worth it and ever so drinkable. Indian Pelican Ale might not be the best around but you'd have to think it over twice before passing on a most excellent and execute them non bogus iron maiden brew.
