Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine May 2007.
We are always a bit wary when American brewers take on Belgian-style Ales. The degree of difficulty is generally higher, as most Belgian styles are a bit more delicate. Pelican gets points right away for utilizing 750 ml magnums.
Lots of foaming action right from the start--a very active carbonation shows loads of bubbles racing to the top of the glass, which in turn holds together for an amazing-looking head. Big peach-orchard aroma, with ripe pears and a light spiciness--very aromatic. Huge rolling crispness from a higher level of carbonation and a lighter body leaves a superb, smooth mouthfeel that draws the flavors in. Waves of pale malt, ripe peaches, mild herbal phenols and powdery grain unfold, with new complexities in every sip. Suggestions of mineral and raw cane sugar stalk. Light hop bitterness and chalky yeast in the middle. Finishes quite clean and bone dry.
Kudos to Pelican for hitting the mark on this one. It stacks right up with some of the great traditional Belgian Saisons on the market today. Pair it with a heaping pot of mussels in a spicy curry broth. And don't forget the frites.

halvsies courtesy of dirtylou - thanks maine
a: 750 served in a tall ommegang snifter, pelican pub saison is a hazy golden-orange hue, floating a full, persistent bone-white head that retains well
s: yeasty, grassy hops, mild citrus, cleanly malted, delicate spice, and some underripe peach - solid set of saison aromas
m: carbonation low-moderate and lively, softer on the palate with a light-medium body
t: a clean malt structure sets the scene for fruity yeasts, delicate citrus, some hints of spice and a grassy hop flavor, underripe stone fruit, and a crisp finish
o: a very well structured saison that hits all the notes one would expect from a quality version, with a little character all its own

Reviewed from notes via a tasting event at Tree House Brewery.
A - Poured a nice clear golden hue with a light fizzy quarter inch head that fades to leave a thin wispy blanket.
S - Light funk, bananas, and faint esters. Its good, but nothing crazy.
T - Light sweet malts and floral hops along with nice funky esters here. Slightly earthy and dry as well. Not bad.
M - Mouthfeel is faintly effervescence, lighter bodied.
O - Overall, not a bad farmhouse here with light lemon and funk notes. Its well done but nothing really standout or amazing.

Thanks to Tieman for sharing this one at his tasting.
Bottled 2/2012.
Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy bone colored head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, spices, and a chalky aroma. Taste is much the same with a mild spice bitterness with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

B-
750ml into a tulip. Pours a nearly transparent golden copper, frothy with superb lacing.
Strong expressive aroma of yeasty goodness with apple, pear and a pleasant old sock.
Taste is more simply juxtaposed sensations rather than easily identifiably flavors. Fairly herbal, phenolic and peppery. Not particularly dry nor bitter but the bitter comes forward as an inverse to the fading flavor. Medium to full bodied. Warmth does this no favors unfortunately, but pleasant enough.
cheers

Big thanks to boralyl for getting me this bottle a ways back. Served in a Mikasa tulip.
Packaged February 2011.
Pours a clear golden color with an absolutely-massive white head. Carbonation issue here, as my first carefully-poured tulip was 95% foam, and it took a good 5-10 minutes for that to settle down. Obviously, great retention. Loads of lacing.
The nose carries some light fruity notes behind a good dose of saison yeast spice and some pepper.
The flavor is mildly fruity with a moderate dose of pepper. Some light grain in the background. Flavor is nice and crisp, but everything on the palate is very fleeting, as the carbonation on this one is out of control. Body seems quite light as a result. A bit of spice in the aftertaste.
This thing wasn't a gusher, and the cork was actually quite difficult to get out. However, the first few attempts at pouring were impossible. This isn't infected, so I'm guessing that it's possible the yeast hadn't fermented down enough and consumed quite a bit more than the sugars given for bottle conditioning.
All in all, this was a pretty enjoyable beer and something I'd be happy to have again.

750ml, split shared and paired with some puget sound shellfish
2011 vintage
appearance: cool bottle, poured into my hopleaf tulip - very foamy, once the action subsides a bright straw-yellow body with a thick foamy white cap remains. nice looking stuff
smell: grass, hay, lemon rind, pear
taste: grassy, assortment of lighter fruits - pear, white peach, out of season citrus, lemon rind, pale malts and grain, cane sugar. I liked this one - well rounded and flexible
mouthfeel: foamy throughout, dry finish
overall: another nice one from Pelican

Bottled Feb 2011, this thing has improved with age imo. It has such a great tartness/funkiness to it that I really enjoy.
Pours a golden orange hue with a solid 3 finger head, amazing retention.
Aroma; citrus, flowers, yeast, and a lingering barnyard funk.
Taste; great lemony tartness upfront with a hint of grains. Notes of floral hops, a mild earthiness throughout, finishing with an incredibly dry mouthfeel and underlying bitterness.
Overall; simple, solid, balanced, with a great tartness...just a bit too dry for me.

golden amber color that was completely hazed over and cloudy with a full three inches of head sitting on top of the glass that just dripped down the sides throughout the entire session.
aroma is deep hops and herbs right from the front. dense citrus and floral lavender and herbs come through very clearly and brightly as the smell is intoxicating and just remarkable. i really am not paying attention to those panning this one as i thought it was remarkable. such a bright and flavorful beer. deep citrus hops, lavender and chamomile, hints of herbs, fresh grasses, light spices, just sublime. smooth, light body is nearly perfectly carbonated

750mL bottle (bottled February 2011) poured into a Hennepin saison glass. Pours a hazy glowing golden straw color with a billowing fluffy white head that lasts forever. Vigorous carbonation erupts relentlessly from the bottom of the glass. Beautiful.
Aroma is Belgian yeast, lemon, banana, spice.
Taste is dry, clean, and bright - citrus, lemon, orange, spice, and yeast balanced by hops. Refreshing, juicy, almost tropical; utterly drinkable.
Overall this is one of my favorite saisons yet. Going to find another bottle of this as I shared this one with several other people and only got half a glass. Very impressed though, this was better than expected.
