Poured from the can into a Sam Adams sensory glass.

A: Pours a slightly hazy brownish orange with a fluffy white head. Mild lacing shows up due to the hop oils and proteins.

S: Resinous, spicy hops with herbal undertones, with some mild orange. Nothing great, though.

T: Mildly disappointing at first - a bit watery. Herbal, bitter, a bit alkaline. There is some spice evident, not any real sweetness in the least. I can't get over the watery taste. As it warms, a bit of malty sweetness is revealed. It finishes clean, but with a bit of alkaline flavor. Some sour tartness shows up in the beginning, bitter in the middle with sparking baking soda and CO2 flavors.

M: Average, fine.... Good carbonation, nice density and thickness.

D: I was so disappointed after all the hype. Just nothing special, no real depth of flavor, and way too much alkaline flavors going on.

16 oz can poured into my mason jar, canning date of 5/8/13. I'm excited to be able to try this so fresh!

I didn't really know anything about this beer going into it, so it was a surprise all the way. Furious pours like a barleywine with extra carbonation. Not a ton of head, but also not a forced pour. Dark, dark orange out of the can, settling even darker into the glass. I really can't get over how dark it is, particularly since I drank an Abrasive beforehand, which is substantially lighter. Unfortunately, the most impressive aspect of Furious is the appearance. There's not a ton to the smell. I get only malt with a little bitterness.

The taste is certainly not lacking, and it's definitely complex, but it's not really impressive to me. The malt completely dominates the hops, leaving only a bitter aftertaste. Some of the complexities are lost at the end too; there's very little sweetness and richness. The mouthfeel is also affected by the bitterness.

I like Furious, and it's definitely one of the more unique beers I've had lately, but I'm not sure if I would buy it regularly.
