A tempest on the tongue, or a moment of pure hop bliss? Brewed with a dazzling blend of American hops and Scottish malt, this crimson-hued ale delivers waves of citrus, pine and caramel-toffee. For those who favor flavor, Furious has the hop-fire your taste buds have been screaming for.

I've had this twice now - at Darkness Day, and at Night of the Living Ales. It's always a huge treat to have this one. Served in my NLA taster glass.

A - Hazy orange-brown color, with a nice bunch of persistent bubbles on top. Not much in the way of head or lace. It's a cask beer - this is how they look! I just find cask beer decidedly unsexy looking, even if I love the taste & mouthfeel.

S - Wow! Furious on crack! Tremedous citrus (tangerine, grapefruit, orange) with some tropical fruits (pineapple & mango). There's also some floral and grassy notes not present in regular Furious - I'm guessing there is a huge amount of amarillo involved in the second dry-hopping. In any case, it's huge & delicious.

T - It's just as delicious as regular Furious. Tons of hops, candied citrus, solid caramel malt balance, with a mild residual bitterness. I did notice that after the fifth or sixth pour the bitterness got a bit tiring. It's also a tiny bit of a letdown from the smell. Those two elements keep me from giving this a perfect score.

M - Smooth, medium-bodied, low carbonation (obviously!), great residual stickiness. Velvet creaminess, yet very refreshing!

D - Hmm...low carbonation + medium ABV + incredible flavor = I can't stop drinking this. It's probably a good thing Tea-Bagged Furious isn't available more often, otherwise I'd be adhered to a bar stool somewhere and my wife would be filing a missing persons report - seriously though, this is an incredible brew, and combines the best of extreme American hop profile with traditional English real ale texture. If appearance didn't matter so much on this site it'd be my top-ranked brew.

Poured from 12oz can into a kitchen glass. Best by 6/22/24.

Appearance: medium amber-orange with a clear body and two fingers of frothy ivory foam atop.

Smell: quite malty with a toasty amber-ale aroma underneath a citrusy, almost lemony, hop character. Not bad.

Taste: like the aroma, quite malty with a fair bit of sweetness and a kind of lemongrass hoppiness. Bitterness is moderate but balanced. A classic old-school American IPA.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: I know this beer is a classic, but now just having it for the first time in 2024, it doesn’t entirely wow me. A solid beer, but not mind-blowing.

A beautiful copper pour. The hops give a visercal touch to the tongue that lingers for an exquisite moment. This gives way to a mocha hewed finishing. VERY well made and excellent IPA

On tap from the Surly Brewhouse.

This is a really solid beer. Pours a dark gold to amber color, with a taste that begins sweet but quickly turns to a pine-ey bitter that lingers. Definitely my favorite of Surly's.

From draft at MSP. Clear copper color, underwhelming nose and palate. Bitter finish.

A better-than-average IPA. Barely sweet at first, with lingering bitterness. So much better than Surly's slightly vomit-y One Man Mosh Pit. I'll drink this again.

Happy to see this arrive in Alberta!
Pours a crystal clear dark copper/amber with two fingers of creamy off white/tawny head.
Aroma is a wonderful mix of citrus peel, grapefruit, piney resin and a bit of caramel malt with a floral note. As warmed there is just a hint of weedy dankness.
Taste follows with sweet caramel malt - a burst of hop flavours - grapefruit peel, pine resin, some floral flavours and a robust bitterness.
Medium full mouthfeel, bright carbonation and a lingering bright bitterness.
Just a treat.

Clear copper with a foamy head that falls into craters. Nose and taste generically remind me of a hoppy amber ale, with a bit of melanoidin and some metal. That metallic not is something I often get in amber ales, especially with a dose of piney hops, which Furious has a bunch of. It’s evident in the first sip late, and moves forward with each sip. The beer overall is a fairly straightforward American bitter beer with a bit of a malt backbone.

On tap at Whistle Binkies in Rochester. Pours a nice amber/copper colour with a thin ring around the edges.

Taste is initially sweeter that quickly fades to a bitter end.
