Bought from Universal Liquors in Holiday,FL (but enjoyed on tap at Old Chicago in Palm Harbor)

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass. Honey'ed red with a heavy chill haze and thick tightly bubbled head that eventually settled down to a clingy lace.

Freshly poured when the head was full, the pine and citrus notes of the hops take predominance, followed by a faint whiff of apple/caramel as the smell of the malt steps in for a supporting role.

Just as the scent, the hops take full charge in the flavor of this beer. There is a slight hint of rum raisin from the yeast and a chewy soft malt caramel that pretty much whispers in a room of yelling hop bitterness.

This beer was a bit "fizzy" compared to it's on-tap brother, which I didn't like as much - I remember this beer being quite "chewy" in the past but my choice of a tulip glass could have contributed somewhat.

Aftertaste of pine and citrus pith is left on the palate afterwards. Good beer for rich foods like a heavy cheese or roast beef, as it cuts the richness with a refreshing strong bitterness.

This beer comes in a copper golden color.

The aroma has a huge earthy aroma with pine. It smells "old" if that means anything.

The taste follows and is almost like a barleywine. It's very bitter, but not really of citrus hops, but more of that deep earthy resin character. So deep that it's almost like bitter tea leaves.

I had this on cask, so possibly that's an issue. Without carbonation, this herbal bittering just overwhelms the palate. It's interesting for sure, but too acrid.

Poured from bottle into a snifter

Appearance – The beer pours a beautiful clear amber color with a half finger of white head. The head sits around for quite some time eventually slowly fading over time to leave a nice level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma is big and sweet with a decent hop hit. The sweet is a mix of caramel and lots of tropical fruits of tangerine and mango. The hop aromas are mainly of a citrus nature and have some other smells of a floral nature as well. Rounding out these sweeter and hopped aromas is a light alcohol smell as well as a bit of breadiness, overall creating one very pleasant smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready base mixed with some sweeter fruit and caramel. With these flavors so too comes a grapefruit citrus hop taste. The grapefruit grows stronger more toward the end of the taste where it is joined by some other hop of a pine nature. More toward the middle of the taste the fruit flavors of tangerine get quite a bit stronger in flavor, matching the increase in the grapefruit hop nicely. With the arrival of the pine, so too come some grassy flavors as well as a moderately strong alcohol flavor. These flavors, when all combined, take the taste to its finish were a semi-sweet mainly citrus hopped and lightly boozed flavor is left to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather thick with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower to average side. Both are fine for the style which when mixed with the boozy tastes keep it a slower sipper of a beer.

Overall – The look and aroma of the beer are quite fantastic. The taste is decent as well as it has an alright blend of sweet and hop with a nice warming taste and feel.

Had a pint glass, nitro on-tap.
A - Golden amber body that is almost clear. Head was about 2.5 fingers of extra-fine bubbles, ivory in color. Lacing was continuous to the bottom of the glass with a ridge left at every sip.
S - Weak for an ale of this caliber. Piney hops with citrus. I expected far more with the head.
T - Bold, bitter, hops, a touch of malt. Started on the weak side, but improved into the drink.
M - A lot of carbonation, dry on the finish.
O - After admiring the head for several minutes, I was disappointed with the aroma and taste. Some will enjoy the nitro and it was a good, but not great experience for may taste.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Enjoy by Jul 9 2013 on the neck.

A: Pours a clear light amber with a full white head. Not very much visible carbonation. The head leaves some nice lacing.

S: Citrus hop aroma is the first thing I notice. Pleasant with a touch of earthiness and grapefruit. A bit of malt sweetness in there as well.

T: This one is bold, a slap in the face of hop bitterness and a strong malt backbone. Hops have great flavor though and blend seamlessly into the malt. Nice fruity aspect going on with the hops. The big ABV is hidden well in all the flavor.

M: Full bodied brew with low carbonation. A bit sticky on the backend from the resinous hops but that gives it a bit of a nectary feel. Very dry.

Overall is certainly a bold and serious double IPA. Worth a try for any hophead. Need to give the Mojo a shot now.
