S: has a deep wheat and yeast smell with sweat apricot sliding in.
T: little to much taste coming from the yeast making it a little over powering and hides the rest of the beer's character.
M/D: medium bodied and feels slightly harsh in the mouth. Drinkability is ok but not something I like to continue drinking.

A- nice looking hazed golden amber with an exceptionally firm and creamy eggshell colored head. foam doesn't retain itself as well as some of my favorite german versions but it's doing a decent job. lace is sticky and there's plenty of it in the form of well defined drippy rings.

S- somewhat hefeweizeny but with a twist of lemon and pineapple. some wheat aromas and a touch of sulfur as well. banana and clove notes hide way in the background keeping this one from being the bavarian style wheat i was expecting from the brewer's description.

T- light and pleasant, but without much yeast flavor the beer gets pretty bland. bready wheat flavors and a malty sweetness up front quickly fade leaving some leafy hop flavor and not much else. a little bit of candied pineapple gives this one a fruity edge. finishes more or less dry and clean with faint banana and cereal flavor.

MF- soft and smoothly carbonated with tight gently rolling bubbles lingering long on the tongue. wheat gives the body some structure and there's also somewhat of a menthol coolness.

D- an easy drinking and mild brew with some citrus character. it's nice for summertime- light, thirst quenching, refreshing, etc. but as far as being bavarian style i could appreciate a bit more yeast spiciness.

Sweaty betty Blonde. This beer didn't look like a wheat beer, it was very clear and had an odd acidic taste. Maybe this beer was handled poorly before I tasted it, but maybe not.

A This beer was poured by the bar keep and was super clear, so much so that it looked like an American pils. It had a big head that went away almost immediately.

S sweet estery smell.

T There is a little acidic green apple taste that has a puckering effect. It is unique and unlike other wheat beers.

M Thin a little malty sweet. Low carbonation.

O This is not my style. I like wheat beers, but prefer the banana flavors over the apple, it's a personal thing I know. It is worth a try, but I'm glad I don't have a six pack.

A: A light straw color, very cloudy. Egg-shell colored head which dissipates, clinging heavily to the glass.

S: Mostly sweet, with banana and bread aromas. Some citrus as well.

T: Tastes like it smells - banana bread and lemons. Perhaps a little vanilla as well. Fades to a pleasant sweet flavor. I think it is a little too sweet - would be better if it had a little more citrus bite.

M: Creamy on on the mouth, with average carbonation.

D: Very typical for the style. A nice beer that succeeds but fails to stand out. The persistently sweet finish is a nice touch, but would prevent me from really throwing these back.

Poured into a pint glass.

A: A very hazy, lemon/straw appearance. White head that forms into a nice retention.

S: The aroma of this Blonde is a perfect balance between present and not overpowering. A nice pale aroma. Very pleasing while sipped.

T: A spicy, medium body on this beer. Good wheat presence, while again with the aroma, not overpowering. Lighter on the carbonation, a easy going down beer.

M: Light and crisp, with a nice mellow lingering taste.

D: Good, perhaps too light and tasty. . . where did the beer in my glass go?!?
Notes: great for drinking after a nice long bike ride, very refreshing.

pours a slightly chill-hazed, effervescent golden yellow hue reminiscent of alka-seltzer in monkey piss. A bleach-white two finger frothy head fades down leaving some respectable lacing.

aroma is better than monkey piss. bananay esters up front, clove, cinnamon, a appealing touch of barn-ish mustiness. a touch of herbal hops. fairly potent aromas might help hide a bit of off-putting funk.

taste is citrusy, and zesty up front, giving way to a bit some grass and damp hay. banana skins and mace, a touch of clove. Fairly earthy with a bit of light caramel sweetness. I keep hoping for my taste buds to find the hops, but they're subtle if there at all.

Mouthfeel is sprightly. And not really in a good way. Just a hint over acceptable carbonation, it comes across a bit fizzy and a bit too thin.

All in all, not bad. Drinkability is high and with the warm weather, Sweaty Betty is a welcome face. A funky colored face with some interesting flavors and pungent aroma, but a drinkable face none the less.

Pours a slightly hazy golden straw color with a tiny white head quickly fades to a ring on the top. Smells of banana clove, spicy wheat, and a hint of phenolic. Taste is sweet upfront followed by a clove and banana assault with a hint of lemon in there. A spicy tartness rounds us off with maybe a hint of metallic. Is this a pale wheat? Hefeweisen? Lines are very blurry. Medium body, tart and syrupy mouthfeel, medium level of carbonation. Not my favorite beer by any stretch. Its light and easy to drink, might be good on a hot summer day, but its kind of bland with nothing really exciting happening.

This beer is what I would consider a staple. Sweaty Betty offers a light, easy to drink banana undertone, with a thin, wispy head of average retention. When you are going with an alternative brew, this is a decent candidate! Don't let the negative reviews keep you from trying it at the very least.

I liked this beer a LOT. It was very clean and had a banana note along with a nice mouthfeel and a crisp finish. I had a couple of six packs of this over the summer and they went down easy and although it's not easy to find here, I will be hunting for it in the future. It makes a nice replacement for the Abita strawberry lager that I REALLY love but can't get very often.

When I first tried this beer a couple years ago (before I started reviewing) I remember thinking, "Damn, whatever Betty's got in her diet, makes her sweat nasty". So, when it showed up again at a local I gave her a clean slate and a fresh chance.

Served in a straight pint glass. poured a cloudy, pale, yellow with an inch of fluffy white head that had medium retention and low lacing.

The aroma was semi-bitter and had a low wheat presence. It didn't have a malt or hop presence either. The flavors were very similar, a little bitter, not much charater otherwise.

The body was thin and dull. Drinkability is on the level of sour water, you drink a lot of it, but why? Overall, this is a fairly unpleasant beer. Not really mean or terrible, just not welcoming or enjoyable.

Betty hasn't improved her diet, her sweat is still funky, and not in the good way.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy golden color with a small head. Smell is of citrus and spices. Taste like it smells, spices and citrus, quite delicious. Feels full bodied in the mouth and is very drinkable. Overall this is a high quality brew.

A: This beer pours hazy yellow color with a one finger of sudsy white head. Head recedes quickly leaving thin wispy minimal lacing.

S: Nose is of wheat, banana, yeast and hint of clove in the background.

T: Taste is definitely heavy on the wheat and clove flavoring. Yeast comes through with hints of lemon that aren't detectable in the nose. Some banana also mingles in with a bit of oddly placed sourness in the finish.

M: Light body, moderate carbonation, somewhat crisp but far too thin.

D: The funkified finish in this beer absolutely killed it for me. Initially an ok representation of the style, but it went downhill and fast. I won't be getting this one again.

Served from a 12oz bottle in a Weiss glass at between fridge and cellar temperature.

A - Pale straw yellow, and very clear until the sediment is swirled in. Decent white head that sinks to an obscuring mat with good staying power. Lacing is very sparse.

S - Wheat malts, obviously. Some light citrus notes and very light banana -- perhaps lemon peel? Could be mistaken for a low-spiced Wit.

T - Off-sweet maltiness and a very distinct wheat-cereal backbone. Light citrus spritz in the middle with whispery clove undertones, and a delicate finish with almost no bittering.

M - Decent swelling over nice, prickly carbonation. A bit fluffy in the swallow, but full of body.

D - A good offering in a category that seems to be rife with simply "fair" beers. I would recommend this one for those "not quite summer yet" spring days.

12 oz bottle with a bottle stamp of NOV2509. Pours a very light yellow with a light and airy white foam. Retention is ok and it leaves a little bit of lace.

Nose is kind of a cross between a wit and a hefe...bananas, some cloves, lemony wheat and some sort of a coriander-like aroma. I am digging on the smell of this beer. Very nice.

Very light-bodied refresher that has quite a bit of flavor. The aroma of the beer says hefe more than the taste. There is a touch of cloviness, but the crisp wheat is the main flavor. The light mouthfeel of the beer even allows some mild hop notes through. A pretty good beer that I would drink some more of, I like the name and the label as well.

The beer poured with minimal head, even though I poured the second half stiffly, and is a clear lager-like (or even lighter) straw yellow, nothing to write home about here. The head dissipated rapidly and left minimal lacing about the glass

The beer though has quite the interesting nose with a huge hit of witbier citrus and coriander along with a bit of wheat and banana. Smells like it may be good...

...or not. Well, that's a little too harsh. The beer is best described as weak. All the flavours on the nose are in the beer - I think, but they are so weak they can be scarcely tasted save my hunting for them. The beer seems watered down as it has a very low carbonation. There is a higher maltiness (at least I think that's what it is) at the outset, and it finishes with a some citrus before it all too quickly falls off the palate as though I had never consumed it. It's a beer I could drink lots of simply because it doesn't feel like much, but that doesn't mean I would want to drink that much of it.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Nonic Pint

Look: The beer appeared a very cloudy golden and cleared up as it warmed. Even after a very hard pour there was very little head to speak of and minimal lacing throughout.

Smell: The aroma was quite simple but very welcoming. Up front I got the essence of wheat which was followed up with sharp whiffs of lemon and peppery spice.

Taste: Much like the aroma the wheat came right to the front of this flavor. It is a big wheat taste that works very well with the other flavors. Then the citrus and peppery spice creep up on you leaving the finish very dry and refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Very dry with a heavier body than I was expecting given the style and color.

Drinkability: Very drinkable! I just wish I had this on a warm summer afternoon by the grill instead of holed up in my house watching snow fall outside. I will certanly revisit this one once the spring hits.

12 oz into an imperial pint

A - Holy yeast suspension, batman. Mega cloudy - certainly a bottle conditioned wheat beer. Head formation light, bright white, leaves behind a film. Gold to straw in color.

S - A light malt note combined with a wheat astringency. I have to say that this is odd, but I almost think I detect the smoke of a BBQ. Could be a winter hallucination.

T - Starts off very light, dry, astringent. Has a fair amount of biting huksy notes. Yeast makes the balance here, strong bready notes. Finishes with the strongest sweetness, but then goes to an almost sherry like flavor which could be oxidation. An almost inverted beer in flavor: balanced to sweet. More potent than most american wheats i've had.

M - Decent body for a APWA - body is not light. Strong carbonation buoys it significantly. Leaves behind a very dry biting sensation.

D - Easy drinking by flavor, although I would find this to be a pairing beer. Something I would put with a meal to counteract its stronger flavors. ABV is a cut above for a wheat, so this may knock you out as it refreshes you.

Poured into a pint glass this brew is a hazy pale yellow color with a thin white head that left no lacing. The aroma of this brew is a little disappointing (I am a fan of the Boulder Brew, especially the anniversary brews). It is a little wet grassy smelling and has some banana and slight hop notes. The taste is a little bland with a higher carbonation than anticipated. The most dominant is banana with a light malt backbone and a little bitter hop finish. This is by far the least tasty of the brews I have had from them as of late. Good thing picked it up as a single.

A: Cloudy banana peel yellow. A rocky off-white head has nice retention and leaves spots of lace.

S: Cloves really stand out. Behind them are aromas of sourdough biscuits, anise and lemon.

T: Dry and spicy. A dry wheat flavor is quickly joined by a generous clove spiciness. Lemon and sourdough come on late. Finishes tart and dry, with a lingering clove flavor.

M: The grainy body has a nice level of prickly carbonation.

D: I was impressed with this one overall. One of the better beers I've had from Boulder Beer. It's a nice refresher that seems best suited to warm summer days. Definitely worth a revisit.

Pours a cloudy yellowish blonde with a half inch head following a medium pour. The head is sticking around and actually has some nice retention .

Smell is typical for the style...wheat. No hop presence in the aroma.

The initial bite leads you to believe that this beer is going to be over-carbonated, but it rounds out nicely and finishes smooth.

Mouthfeel is thin with just the right amount of carbonation for the style.

I could drink this for a session, but I'd rather have a pale ale or a red.

Morey's Bottom Line: I tried to be as fair as possible while reviewing this beer, but this just isn't my favorite style. If you're a fan of wheat beers then I see no reason why you wouldn't enjoy this blonde for an evening.

Special tasting for a special sweaty betty in my life=) She was very impressed, but even she thought there was a little room for improvement.
Appearance> Hazy, warm blonde. Medium liveliness. Big head disappears promptly. Absolutely no lacing. Still, it looks tasty.

Smell>Sweet. Sugar, cereal.

Taste> Lacking complexity. A little too sweet of a hang for me, but drinkable and refreshing.

Mouf> little too tingly.

Drinkability> refreshing, easy. Good one for a pitcher in the sunshine with your mates.

When I saw the label on this one, I was excited, but it turns out the age old adage is correct, you cannot judge a book by its' cover. Up front this poured a straw yellow, hazy and opaque color, and it had no head, and no lacing. It smelled a little citrusy, kind of minty, and like unbaked bread - kind of sweet, but also a little doughy.

On first sip I knew this one had missed its mark, not by much, but definately not an award winner. It is not balanced between the yeast, the hops, the concept, at all. Sweaty Betty turned out to be a very appropriate moniker, as this beer really did taste kind of sweaty. I want to try the beer this would have been without the 10k it just ran behind it. It has promise underneath it's hesitant, and unfulfilled idea, but for now I will not be purchasing it again.

A - Pours a light gold with only a minimal amount of haze (surprising) with minimal head that dies almost instantly but does have good lacing retention

S - Awful, fucking god awful. The aroma has to be what this beer is named after. Smells like stale wheat, mixed with burnt beans. This is definitely one I should have drank out of the bottle.

T - There is plenty of wheat flavor, but it almost tastes like it is a wheat extract flavor that was poured into the beer. There's a pale malt flavor that is prevalent and makes up the aftertaset.

M/D - If it wasn't for the smell, the drinkability would be higher. I dread the next sip because I will smell the beer from my glass. The mouthfeel is weak, but that's to be expected given the style.
