Pours a very dark brown with an almost red with a nice foamy tan coloured head.

The smell is coffee, milk chocolate and some dark malts.

The taste is much the same as the smell coffee and milk chocolate. The flavours are more subtle than a lot of coffee beer but still tasty non the less.

The mouthfeel is creamy with medium carbonation.

Overall a decent coffee beer, on the weaker side though. The abv can't be tasted at all.

Appears pitch black, light caramel tan head, aromas is crazy, there is dark chocolate with big robust coffee singing out with hints of vine ripened fruit. Hints of dark cocoa and molasses round out the sweeter decadent aspects of this beer, strong espresso dark coffee roasts. Flavor is layered with creamed coffee, dark nutty roasted malts, caramelized sugars and again a strong molasses presence. The coffee flavors are in line with some of the better coffee beers available, the booze is well hidden and the beer definitely packs a punch. The mouthfeel is medium to full carbonation is flowing nicely a smooth robust finish on this big beer from Idaho, I would definitely pick this up again.

S: Fairly strong coffee note, bready chocolate, malty espresso notes

L: Thick, dark black, tan creamy head that dissipates slightly. Ok lacing.

T: Fresh ground coffee up front with a soft milk chocolate that comes next. Medium low roasty bitterness with a fairly strong espresso note following. Some vanilla with milk chocolate notes into the finish. Finishes with espresso like dryness.

M: Medium full body, medium low carbonation. Not too heavy. Alcohol fairly well hidden.

Pretty solid coffee porter, well balanced with subtle, complex flavors.

Poured into a St. Somewhere style wine glass. Label says Bottled 1/31/13.

A-Pours a fully opaque black color with a 1/2 inch dark tan head that retains decently before slowly whittling down to a .

S- Sugary sweet caramel/mocha/vanilla aroma with some hazelnut. Actually kind of smells like Frangelico. Semi-resilient lacing slides down the glass leaving clots behind.

T- Coffee is more pronounced in the flavor with some dark roast to round out the vanilla/caramel/milk chocolate sweetness. It's sort of like a mocha milkshake. All of these characteristics sort of point toward an artificiality but it stays balanced well enough especially with the alcohol being so high.

M- Sticky, almost syrupy. Not as robust of a body as I was hoping and medium carbonation.

O- A decent coffee beer although the coffee takes a back seat to all the chocolate and vanilla notes. Definitely on the sweet side. Diabetus alert.

brewery location: Ponderay, ID
type: Ale

abv: 8%

Appearance: medium roast espresso in color with a frothy freshly stained and varnished american oak head. carbonation? who knows, can’t see that shit through the darkness.

Smell: like the schoom on espresso, huge caramel and fresh coffee grounds

Taste: hello caramel popcorn, nice to meet you. Oooops, dropped you in my french press dark roasted slightly red berry fruity coffee. Oh yes you are yummy.

Mouthfeel: creamy, sensual, slight hop/carbonation tinge but I like it that way

Overall Impression: a great coffee porter. Sweet malty, caramel, coffee, all the good stuff you would expect from a coffee porter with a perfect hop balance.

Food Pairings: charred steak, strawberry shortcake, sweetpea ravioli with a deep lamb sausage tomato sauce
