Notes:
Named after the little birds that fly by the brewery looking for grain after the weather turns cold, this was originally to be a Fall/Winter seasonal. Clearly we underestimated the market for this smooth and malty brown ale, and we have decided to keep it for year round enjoyment.

Thanks to cosmicevan for the extra. Served in a standard pint. Pours a reddish-brown with a slightly hazy clarity and a loose, quarter inch, tan-colored head that sizzles and pops and recedes into a broken oily slick and a tight band around the edges. Nose is light and malty with a touch of sweetness as well as a slight nutty quality. There's also a trace of something metallic as well in the background. Taste consistent with nose - sweetness is not readily apparent; however a roasted coffee/earthy quality comes out in the flavor profile with a bit of noble hops and char the lingers between quaffs. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with a prickly carbonation. A solid brown ale but nothing really stands out per se. That said, if you are a fan of the style, it's worth trying out.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, served at cellar temp.
appearance: transparent cola brown with 1 finger offwhite head. hardly any lacing.
aroma: is that a cinnamon like aroma I detect. toasted malt and some earthy hops.
mouthfeel: a little better average.
taste: toasted malt with just a kiss of sweetness and some hoppy bitterness.
notes: very tasty. enough sweetness to balance the toasted malt and hops.

A - Pours a pretty dark brown quite clear with a 1/2 inch of sticky head that settles to a thick lace ring.
S - Ah yea brown malts, toasted almond, and a touch of roast.
T - Sweet and rather balanced with toasted almonds, toasted breads, chocolate cococa, and some roasty twang.
M - Medium bodied and chewy very on par with the style.
Overall again I am impressed with Captain Lawrence they make very good beers, on the cheap. This one is a great brown ale.

A: A medium brown beer with good clarity. The head has decent retention with a light-tan creamy foam.
S: Moderately nutty and toasty with a light bit of carmel. Moderately-light citrus hops aroma.
T: A medium amount of malt flavors with some roastiness, toast and light caramel and chocolate flavors. There is a light hops flavor and moderate hops bitterness. The balance is slightly malty with a medium-dry finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderately-strong carbonation and a some creaminess.
O: A malt driven American Brown with less hops flavor and aroma than most, that seems to borrow a bit from the English browns in style.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.
A: Pours a clear dark ruby brown with a one finger off white head. Not very much visbile carbonation. Head dissipates in a minute or so and leaves no lacing.
S: Roasted malt, chocolate and a nuttiness dominate the aroma. Dark fruits, hazelnut and a hint of vanilla.
T: Pretty balanced brew, not overwhelming with flavor but certainly enjoyable. Chocolate malts take the lead, slight bitterness. Rounded out with a roasted malt aftertaste. Good english brown characteristics.
M: Fairly light on the tongue, on the lower end in the carbonation department. Pretty easy drinking with the low abv. Something to session with.
Overall another tasty brew from this impressive brewery. The aroma is the best and I wish the flavor was kicked up a notch or so to match.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: medium amber-brown hue with a very light haze and a light effervescence. Head poured a very thin layer of ivory foam, but this dissipated quite quickly.
Smell: rich aroma which is nutty, chocolatey, caramelly and overall very brown ale-y. Quite good.
Taste: flavor is a little bit more subdued on the lovely chocolate from the aroma, but there's still a caramel and nutty quality to it. Hops come in here but are also subdued, and bitterness is low but balanced. There's a little bit of a tartness as well. Not bad, in general, but I would like to see this beer with a taste more like its aroma.
Mouthfeel: medium to medium-light body with a good level of carbonation developing a respectably creamy texture. Pretty good!
Overall: a tasty enough and quite drinkable brown ale. I could see myself having this again; I'd like to try it on draft.

Appearance: chestnut brown in color, 1 inch head, clear, high carbonation
Smell: caramel and coffee
Taste: nut, light toasted malt, caramel, and coffee
Mouthfeel: medium bodied, medium carbonation, nice mix of sweet and bitter
Overall:Nice and malty. The nut comes through in places and it drinks like an English Brown Ale at times. Above average to good and certainly sessionable. There are others I would choose first in the style, but this is a quality brew.

a nice clean deep amber/brown with 2 fingers of head. smells of grapes, caramel, toffee (roasty smell overall). a sour flavor hits you up front. getting a sour grape taste with a light chocolate finish. not sure if this is an old bottle or infected, but it's not very enjoyable. medium body (light side) with a good amount of carbonation and a chalky finish.
the aftertaste is a lot better than the actual taste of this beer. this is one of their few bad beers.

We pour a brew of reddish, orange amber coloring. It holds a three finger head of cakey tan bubbles. Retention is nice, leaving sheets, patterns, and pockets of equally as cakey lacing down the sides of the glass. There is a definite chill haze, but no sediment is noted. Carbonation appears medium. The nose shows chalky, partially roasty caramel malts, and light adjuncts. Baker’s yeast adds bite and sourness, while white flour adds dryness. Otherwise there are light metallics, cooling vanillas, and nutmeg to add spice and round things out. Our first impression is that there is nice sweetness and twang of tannins, but otherwise things are relatively mute. As we sip, the flavoring opens with a souring roasted grain, light caramels, hints of lemon rind, and baker’s yeast. The middle peaks with metallic, slightly adjuncty grain, more roasty caramels, and saltiness. The finish comes as more of the same, with salt, toffee sugars, lemon tea-like tannins, and a far off wood barreling. The aftertaste breathes of lemon rind, drying tannins, caramel malts, musk, yellow mustard bite, and more adjuncty twang. The body is medium, and the carbonation is lighter end. The mouth is cooled and lightly coated with froth, and a very faint astringency down the tongue. There is nice slurp, sip, froth, and glug to each sip. The abv is appropriate, and the beer drinks easily.
Overall, what we enjoyed most about this brew was the rich coloring. The hues were beautiful, and seemed to perfectly capture the seasonal imagery laid forth by the brewery’s description. The nose and flavoring, however, were comparatively weak. While they lacked a general robustness, they gave generous adjuncty grain throughout, making for a cheaper, quicker-seeming brew.
